Paan is used as a palate cleanser. It is not as bad as shown in the video. It can come off as a strong flavour for many. It also helps with digestion. The paan you guys are tasting, I am very sure is an Americanized version. When I try Indian food here, I give the same reaction. They are not even remotely Indian and taste so bad. For experiencing authentic paan, you must try the same in India, especially in Varanasi.

@@Yefah There are two types of Paan. One you spit it out and one you eat the whole. You might've had the former. In Delhi streets, you mostly get the latter i.e you can eat the whole. It's called sweet paan. It's just the Paan leaf, cardamom, Rose petals caramelized (gulkand) and Supari. That's it. All herbs and sweet. Acts more like a mouth freshener and a digestive. You have to eat it whole. In Cannaught Place, you even get the Ice and Fire Paan (pretty famous there). It's amazing. I don't know what these guys had though.
