My AVRI Jazzmaster got PLEK'd, was it worth it?

  • Earlier in the week I brought my 65 Jazzmaster into Wolfe's Guitars in Jupiter Florida to have it PLEK'd and have a fret replaced, and today I talk about the results. This guitar seemingly always has a problem in one way or another, was this the final piece of the puzzle to bring it back to it's original glory?

    As far as Plek is concerned your experience replicates mine. I've had two guitars done. First was good, the second was absolutely transformative. As you infer, you still need to take it to someone who knows what they are doing. I was told the guitar on the machine before mine was Dave Gilmore's. They probably say that to everyone but even so......

      For whatever reason I was never notified of this comment, but man it was wild how much better it made the guitar. I'm happy you had such a great experience as well, it's really magic for a guitar that NEEDS work done.

    My 66 vox i gave to a luthier in hopes of a good set up. He took the whole guitar apart, did his thing and wow! It was better than one could have expected. I would love to know what he put on the neck but it sounds much the same as yours ... And he merely said "it's a secret. " now this was so many years ago and while she was being fixed i bought my first red telecaster ... of many. Lolol

      A lot of things can happen over a decade of use, even guitars that come out of the factory perfect can start to need some help at that point but I do love my 335 I bought new last year that was also plekd from the factory

    Needed this video dude you have no idea lol
    My first guitar is what I want pleked, it’s a Dean ML DimeCamo for like $350.
    It’s neck is two pieces of woods grafted together, it’s headstock is 3 pieces of wood glued together, I always have had buzzing and dead frets.
    Despite such from day one I have loved this thing and put so much love and learning into it💚
    This video helped me make the decision to have it pleked but I have one music shop in town that is run by one dude and his wife.
    He’s obviously in it for self love and the aesthetic because his shop looks cool and has a lot of merch but when I walk in asking about a pedal or a guitar issue, he tells me to just go online😒😒
    So I’ll have to ship it somewhere to be pleked and set up, any idea where?

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  2 роки тому +1

      I would make a trip out of it honestly, I wouldn't ship it out for that because it's most likely going to need another set up once you get it back to be in tip top shape. It would be a fun day trip or you could even make a weekend out of it - most shops if you call in advance and tell them you are coming from out of town will make sure it's done same day - that's what happened for me. Does the plekster tape over the pickups and switches? Fret shavings and magnets don't play well together.

  • @Bliggick
    @Bliggick 2 роки тому

    Are you sure the pickup is faulty? I've had the same problem happen to me on so many guitars and it was always a problem with the switch, usually fixed with some Deoxit spray.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  2 роки тому

      Everything was just checked before this, and I always deoxit electronics when I have it pulled apart. Just one if those things, it happens Im thinking its a bad connection elsewhere or just a dead pickup.

    • @Bliggick
      @Bliggick 2 роки тому

      @@AudiomoMusic Maybe Fender might warranty replace that pickup. They gave me a new neck for a Strat Plus when the skunk stripe split open on the back. I think Gibson would warranty a repair of two inlays lifting out of my 10 year old SG but I'd rather fix it myself because I don't like the way this certain music store handles gear. They put a ding on my new Firebird. Another time I brought back a new hard-to-find Rickenbacker Dakota to have something tweaked in the controls. Then they told me they sent it back to Rickenbacker because of something they found out about the neck that I never noticed. They had no plan or way to replace the guitar, just with no warning I couldn't have my guitar back. I was always a little suspicious about that whole episode. Another hard lesson I learned is when you take something in for service make it bare bones, instrument and case and that's it, not even whammy bar if they don't need it. If they can lose something, they will.

    Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with this guitar.
    Some guitars are money pits, you spend so much on them to create
    perfect playing and sounding one, only for the guitar to have the last laugh.
    I hope a new pickup is the last part needed.
    As for pleking a guitar, it is not cheap, but neither is a skilled luthier.
    From what i have heard, it can be a good and bad thing, i wouldn't risk
    it on a guitar with a glued in neck.
    My question is who pays for a new neck if it all goes wrong?

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  2 роки тому +1

      The shop takes full responsibility if there are problems but the machine doesn't put anywhere near the amount of force onto the instrument to damage it, it would be the last thing that would put me off of it honestly. This of course assuming you are going to a reputable shop, but I can't think of many hacks that invest in a PLEK machine honestly.

    • @Barbarapape
      @Barbarapape 2 роки тому

      @@AudiomoMusic To the best of my knowledge there is only Peach Guitars in the UK with a Plek machine, Thomann have one, but the shipping
      costs would make it too expensive.
      Good luthiers are getting hard to find, one reason to learn how to setup
      your own guitars, i learned on a very bad sample of a Squire Affinity,
      i did end up with a playable guitar once i got the frets level and polished.
      upgraded everything, then gave it to a local charity shop, it sold the next day.
