- I’m finding myself in need of some early style Harley Ironhead Sportster oil pump bodies to continue the Exxon Valdez series and solve the mystery of check valves that don’t seat and flooded crankcases. I’ve got 4 pumps that were headed to the scrap bin that are being rerouted back to workable spares. In your copious free time you should build an “oil pump test stand” so you could verify a pump before it goes on an expensive motor.

Hey Brutha a Smart fella would hook up with a CNC shop and hand off some appropriately sized Billet 356 and machine one of these rather simple pumps out of billet stock what do you think about that ??????????

I just rebuilt my oil pump...should i have looked forvthat small hole to plug up??
Probably not, I suspect that hole was a one time defect...
Well I’m definitely tackling and trying to fix mine , I fucked up today big time !!! I cracked mine on the side where you mounted the oil pressure switch it was lose and leaking I went little crazy on tightening, I could care less about the oil pressure switch can I bypass that and just plug it and call it a day
You need to get the crack welded or replace the pump body. It will leak. And don't for a second believe JB weld will fix it. Yes, you can plug the hole where the switch screws into the steel fitting.
@@IronHeadCycle I’ve never taken one apart I’ll need to search a video how to do that , jp has em in stock I found one just have to figure out the procedure taking it apart
It is a big job to do correctly, the engine must be removed from the fram because the pump will not clear the frame. The cam cover must be removed, the cams must be removed, the cam timing and oil pump breather timing must be reset. Do yourself a favor. BUY A MANUAL. @@IronHeadCycle I do have a manual actually and yes I know it’s a big job but I think I can handle it , this old timer helped me out with the the timing and points I told him what I did and he replied with a good luck 😂 its ok I learned from my mistakes and I’ll definitely keep you in mind if I have any questions and if you have a oil pump body that already plugged that would work on mine I’ll take it , where are you located if you don’t mind me asking, I’m in jersey over here

Good day. I’m building an ironhead right now. I’m a old machinist who gets off on fixing up stuff people toss. And this bike is all swap Meet and eBay parts on the cheap cheap cheap. It’s actually turning out to be one of the coolest bikes I’ve ever built in my 40 year career. For everyone out here, I say go for it. It’s a blast. Smitty in Vegas.
