  • This is a short demo of me tying a bait stop to a hair rigged hook.
I've set this particular hair for a small bait of 8mm. The larger your intended bait the further you need to move the bait stop away from the hook when initially tying. This is a fast and easy way for using lots of soft baits including corn, luncheon meat, polony, soft cheese, chick peas, soft Boilies etc.
For optimum hooking rate try using this method on a curved shank hook especially if you're using barbless hooks.

I’ve used a blade of grass as a stop for years- never failed me. Caught plenty.

I wonder if it would be better to tie the quickstop on with a tucked bloodknot? It would keep it horizontal as well. I'll give it a try. Nice informative video, though- thank you.

Use a loop tier and your loops will always be the same, no need to fiddle with your fingers. Also winding WAY more times around the hook massively helps to keep the loop and bait stop in place

My little hint is to leave the stop on the strip until you've got the line through the hole. It's only half as fiddly then !

I assume the stop there is meant to be pushed through the bait, and then turned sideways to hold it from falling off....is that right? If so, what does one use to push through the bait?

Guru supply a needle with their stops to push it through the bait

Hi Tina, you can get bigger bait stops that allow for 0.35mm line.

I'll tell you another little secret, there is such a thing as a loop tyer, so you don't have to use your fingers to try and make small loops.
