S1-S3 of this show is probably my fav show of all time. S4 was weird but i liked S5 a lot as well! It had a lot of great character development and the Jackie/Hyde stuff was great. S6 and 7 had a lot of good stuff but there were definitely some lows like the Wedding arc and the Mitch episodes (couldn't stand him), overall still pretty good imo, but S8? We don't talk about season 8. All the development in the prior seasons was slaughtered.
But you're right, these first three seasons had a very peculiar charm. The later stuff wasn't bad imo, was just different. And i understand why they changed things up. The first three reasons and season 5 are definitely the best ones

@@3282ramirez The actors for Eric and Kelso leaving for more money didn't help but they ran out of story by that point. Most sitcoms only target 100 total episodes so they can syndicate (sell the reruns rights to other channels) but 70s show ended up with 200 so they were way past the original script by the end.

times like this where you need to think a bit more about what's happening. red was 1000% right, he told Eric not to get a job and to focus on school, and Eric is being defiant thinking he needs a job and later on he managed to prove he wasn't able to handle job and school. when he(and other men as well) are forced to get a job, he never let Eric get a job. he was always a good parent, Eric was never right. he didn't deserve any respect. it's a show, yes but they wrote him off to always be naive and spoiled because he had everything and still managed to always do wrong.

@@817exo Respectfully disagree. From what I remember of this series, Eric was often proven right. True Red told him to focus on school and then find a job far far away, but it turned out that he would need to work experience to find jobs to keep the family afloat when Red himself was out of work. I saw it more as Eric trying to be independent of his parents which makes sense cuz they were both smothering in their own way. Red was the hardass authoritarian who breathed down Eric's neck to keep him on the straight and narrow, Kitty was a smothering mom who wanted to keep her baby boy underfoot at all times. So yeah, Eric started acting out and doing things that from his perspective made him an adult like his parents: drinking, working and sex mainly. It was because of his relationship with Donna that Red fired Eric from his stock-boy job, they wanted to marry but Red didn't approve.
From what I remember Red lost his manager job after the heart attack, but wasn't able to get it back after he recuperated. Until then the family was in dire financial straits but Eric stepped up and got a new job to pay the bills to help his folks out. To me that says that while he wasn't making the best decisions at the time, he had the capacity to adapt and rise above the setbacks. I'm sure that his parents were just being protective of him and trying to do right by him, but by taking away his ability to make his own mistakes they were stunting him as a person.

@@picklejalapeno Red is a supervisor of a competing business so how exactly could he promote Bob's business especially since if sales drop Red would be the first person responsible. Also promoted or not there was zero chance Bob's business was gonna survive, Walmart proved that 100 times over. Super store prices make it impossible to compete unless you offer something they don't and it's lucrative enough to keep cash flow stead. Finally, as a supervisor its not like Red would have the authority to promote an outside business.
For all those reasons, Red's hands were tied. Bob should have known Red was gonna take that Job because Red had been searching for full time work for at least a year. His family was struggling and no one was hiring. Red had no choice but to take that job.

It's likely a place to place situation, but when we got a Super Wal Mart, which our county paid for to get them to put one there, they undercutted costs till they got the mom and pop shops around till they went out of business, took out the nearby Sullivan's too, then proceeded to jack the prices up higher then the locations that closed since they monopolized the area. They can charge less because they can buy more in bulk, thus lowering the over all cost of the items. Additionally, they have more connections with shippers and distributors. Smaller mom and pop shops can't do this as effectively thus the reason they have to charge more for their items.

School isnt 24/7 or 7 days a week, he could work on the weekends. Plus a lot of kids at Eric age have a part time job. The only thing the job may really get in a way is him hanging out with his friends. Plus its better him to get a job than do what Laurie is doing.
