Interstitial Cystitis (IC) or Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the deep and muscular layers of the bladder that causes bladder frequency, bladder urgency and/or bladder pain.
Most people mistake the symptoms as a urinary tract infection, however urine tests do not reveal infection. Most patients have been suffering from this condition for several months to years before being properly diagnosed. If you have been diagnosed with this condition, you are NOT alone. It has been suggested that up to 12% of women in the US may be affected by symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome.
Although more prevalent in women, IC/PBS can affect both men and women. It can be extremely debilitating. The symptoms of IC/PBS can range from mild to severe and often coincide with pelvic floor tension and muscle spasms. Although presentation can vary greatly among people there are often common symptoms.
Common Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome symptoms include:
*Urinating often more than 1x every 2-3 hours
*Running to the bathroom with urge to urinate
    *Bladder or lower abdominal pressure/pain
*Pain at the urethra (urinary outlet)
    *Pain with urination
Physical Therapy can help Relieve Symptoms
If there is inflammation in the bladder for an extended period, over time this inflammation can affect the surrounding musculature and fascial tissue. The inflammation in the fascia and muscles creates symptoms that appear to be coming from the bladder.
Physical therapy can help by releasing constrictions in the fascia and deactivating trigger points in the muscles of the abdomen, pelvis, hip and pelvic floor. Releasing and rebalancing the tissue and muscles can bring relief to the symptoms of Painful Bladder Syndrome.
If you live in the Philadelphia area, you can give us a call 267-282-1301 or www.rebalancept.com. If you don’t live in Philadelphia area, go to our website www.rebalancept.com and shoot us an email and let us know if you need help finding a physical therapist.

The theory of of having PT definitely makes sense. However, it is only a PART of the process in your therapy. Inflammation can definitely cause the surrounding muscles and fascia to tense up.. as to "protect" this area from even more trauma. For example in frozen shoulders most people lose their ability to move their arms in full capacity because the joints are so inflamed and your muscles in your back and around your shoulders become intensely tight and basically wants to PROTECT you from causing any more harm to the joints and yes pretty much LOCKS up your arms so they will heal. I know this based on my own personal experiences. I feel it is the same with the bladder.. etc. For example my daughter had a UTI infection .. Doctors said her WBC cell count was high gave her 3 rounds of antibiotics... she was never told to watch her diet. She was NEVER told to stop drinking acidic coffee.. or foods that would even irritate her bladder wall EVEN more after enduring a nasty E.Coli infection... so basically she did what they said. They told her to take more antibiotics and take cranberry .. all of this made her situation worse. Now her immune system is shot.. her microbial flora has been affected in her digestive process.. her urine has high acidity from not watching her diet.. she now has IC because well once you learn that there no bacterial infection.. you have to wonder. The integrity of her bladder wall has been even more irritated and affected by doctors.. who literally are making her MORE sick. And the situation becomes worse, where her muscles and fascia are wanting to protect this area ... basically a self protecting mechanism that is telling your brain that this area is sick .. You see, half of these cases would be in a different place today, if doctors actually treated their patients correctly instead of ignoring it .. Antibiotics is harmful.. it should be the last resort.. Now we are trying to find a coat of "paint" to protect the bladder lining.. with supplements, following the IC diet, and I do believe PT will also ease up the pain. These treatments combined should be very helpful. It takes time. You have to get your body OUT of the "inflamed" state.. it's on fire... do this by watching your diet.. rest, meditate .. sleep, eat according to the IC diet anti inflammatory plan, do PT.. and find that coat of "paint" to protect your bladder wall so it may have a chance to heal.. unless it is to late. The GAG layer epithelial cells of your bladder wall is greatly affected and these highly sensitive cells are not easy for your body to regenerate in a very acidic environment. It makes sense.

I found that certain exercises have helped calm things down, I also know that juice irritates and pop, also high amounts of sugar. So far that is the only few things that aggravate things.
At the same time, we are treating our symptoms, but we are not getting to the root cause of why this being caused.

I had severe pain in my bladder for 14 months. I begged God to please help me as it was the worst pain of my life. He did! II suddenly found a urologist/ gynecologist that guided me with several things... First she prescribed one gram of estradiol once a week, change in diet, and some light exercise. Diet includes no sugar, foods that are acidic and eliminating foods with oxalates. Also, hints I found in other videos like washing my “lower area” often with no soaps, not using any kind of pads, wearing loose clothing especially at night, drink plenty of alkaline water. I also did two herbal kidney cleanses. Remember no tea, sodas, juice or milk. No chocolate , spinach or tomatoes! I hope this works for you as well as me. I haven’t even had any flare ups for over7 months now! It’s my miracle and glory to God!

Went to an amazing pelvic floor physio in New Zealand where I'm from, I now live in London and have been through the urology department of the hospital and still can't find anyone to give me further help or guidance further than a cystoscope. Is there anyone in London you would recommend who does this kind of work? Or are there any exercises/ massages you could advise I do at home? Thanks :)
