    Thanks for this! I don’t know why I feel so guilty putting down a book like it’s the biggest sin in the world to not finish it. 😭

    This is interesting coming from a librarian because a lot of videos coming out is about how it’s disrespectful to authors in general! I agree that some should be left unfinished! Some people say to come back to it later because it just not be for you right now! I’m undecided about this method of waiting for later. I say life is too short to waste it on books that you don’t like!!!!!! Thanks for this video! I don’t feel so guilty now!

      I'm glad to hear that! Yeah, I don't understand the logic of powering through a book just to finish it. There are WAY too many wonderful books out there, so I only have time for the four and five star ones. :)

    I’m a huge supporter of DNFing! I’ve never pushed through a book I wasn’t enjoying and been glad that I did at the end. Most of the time I actually regret having spent that time on a book that wasn’t for me.

      Before I discovered BookTube, I didn't know that DNFing had a negative connotation for some people lol.

    I wish I could DNF books, but the feeling of leaving something incomplete bothers me :/ maybe I should just leave it for a while, read another one I’m more interested in and then go back to the other one

    • @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901
      @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901  Рік тому +4

      I have tried that too, and guess what? I never wind up going back to the other book! Lol. Maybe that would be a good way for you to transition into DNFing a book.

    I am usually a completionist , but lately I've finished books wishing I dnfed them. So I'm going to try my hardest to start dnfing in 2023 but my brain isn't happy about it lol

      I was the same way at first! I thought why not just finish it if I've already spent this much time on it... Then I had a baby and realized every free second I have needs to be doing something I love lol.

    all of those signs were present for the book I DNFed. It felt like a personal call-out lol. Usually I’d have one thing to latch onto in order to get through a book, however, I could not for the life of me get through The Night Circus. I got through 200 pages of the book and I realised that every single time I picked up the book, it felt like a task and I wasn’t enjoying a single thing about it except for the setting and writing. While I do think it is important to finish a book in order to give your full well rounded opinion of it, I don’t see any shame in dropping a book you don’t like anything about. Part of me does feel bad about not giving it a better chance, but I was so careless that afterwards I watched spoilery reviews and figured out the ending that way. Make sure you read books you love.

      I completely agree! I also DNFed The Night Circus many years ago, and I just recently DNFed The Starless Sea. I felt like I must be missing something or not be smart enough to read it because SO many booktubers were saying it's one of their favorite books... I just don't get it haha.

      I read the entirety of the night circus when i wanted to dnf and i can confirm it isn’t as good as the hype. I feel you can only love it if you are super into a circus setting

    Dnfing is self care for sure! I think I dnfed like 4 or 5 books last month 😂
    Though the queen of blood dnf makes me sad 😂 but it's not for everyone, I actually loved book 2 the most in that series by we get a new character that I fell in love with

    • @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901

      I wish I had liked The Queen of Blood because one of my students LOVES it. I thought it was decent until she got her eyesight back and randomly kissed Hammond when he had only been in like two scenes ever and had maybe said 10 words... I was like, what?! Lol.

    Gosh, I am reading a book and there is nothing really wrong with it. I love this author's other work. I love the characters in this book. I like the atmosphere, the writing. But I don't care about the story very much. I don't think I am into this genre anymore. I'm only so torn because the characters are truly phenomenally lovable that I think about them all day. Yet, I pick the book up, and I'm feeling like I would rather be reading something else, I keep calculating how many pages I have left. I'm just not sure I'll feel relieved if I stop.

    Honestly, I couldn't dnf a book because there were multiple times where the first half is really bad/slow and then 💥boom💥 it turns into the best book ever into the middle. However, the night circus is not giving me any hope honestly.

    • @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901
      @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901  2 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately, I've been having the opposite experience lately... the first half of a book will be so good that I'll think it's going to be a new all-time favorite. Then the second half goes downhill, and I'm just left being disappointed. Sad times.

    I DNFed Empire of the Vampire halfway through. I was so excited to read it but hated the main character so much I couldn't take it. I DNFed Mexican Gothic too. more than halfway through. I used to not do it when younger but as I have gotten older I just don't want to waste my time.

    • @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901
      @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901  Рік тому +1

      You know, Mexican Gothic was one I almost DNFed too, but it actually got better! I would definitely suggest Fall of the House of Usher instead if you haven't read it. :)

    I think this is pretty lenient. The way I see it, everything on my tbr is something I very much can't wait to read so the idea of reading something bad while so many are waiting is pretty hard. That being said the only books I can remember dnfing are Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale...because it was so boring and I was finding that I wasn't remembering anything I was reading from it.

    • @manuscriptsmusickandmore7901

      Yeah, especially since I had a baby and now have little time to read, I DNF right and left! If it's not 4 or 5 stars, why read it?!

    I hate it when people make you feel bad for DNF. Reading is a pleasure, not a chore. If I feel like I am making an effort and not getting any pleasure from it, not clicking to the book or characters, DNF all the way.

    I don’t want to read my book I got from the school library because it contains inappropriate content but my teacher gave it to me to read over the two week vacation, and if I don’t read it I will get a horrible grade from trying to tell her what the book is about. I really hate the book it is so disgusting, the librarian told me it was science fiction 😭 More gore than the quotes shown in the « child reading inappropriate book » video

    I did so recently, because the final 100 pages were in serious need of a bloody good editor.
