    Oh Chris! This video is a great tutorial I've been cooking mustard and turnips mixed since my grandma taught me in the early 60's. She lived in rural Louisiana and would come to Chicago to visit with us. Now, that I am a grandma/great grandma, I still love that mixture. I mix in a little or lot of spinach during the last few minutes of cooking time. Now, I continue adding the spinach because my family loves it and it's good for the younger great grands to get a bit more necessary and needed vitamins/minerals. Plus, they are delicious.

    My brother-in-law's family kept a bottle of all the things they found in his aunt's cooking: pins, twist ties..you name it. Now they ate that food and never died. One yellow stem is not a criminal act.

    Turnips with smoked ham hocks are my favorite greens. I love turnips too. Jamaican-style stir-fried cabbage was also enjoyed.
    As children, we picked loads of scot-free mustard greens from regional orange groves. Now they're over $3.00 per scrimpy bunch!
    Back in the day, housands of mustards were planted around commercial orange trees to put natural iron into the soil. Growers gave us as much as we could have transported.

    Hi Miss Chris. Momma, bless her soul, washed her fresh greens in the washing machine in cold water. She’d add a half cup of table salt, but no soap, eww. Our uncle was a farmer and we got greens fresh from the ground, dirt included. We never found sand or bugs in our cooked greens.

    • @CeliniacForLife
      @CeliniacForLife Рік тому +1

      You’re judging Chris for using a LITTLE soap on the greens, but your mother washed her greens in the washing machine? Sounds like she was the unsanitary one, not Chris. Take your microaggressions elsewhere.
