- Finally, after months of waiting, we get our hands on the VW Golf Mk 8, 1.4 TSi.
The DSG has been replaced with an 8-Speed Automatic, and it seems to take to the slopes like a duck to water.

Uncle YS. All the genting videos do not do justice to the actual experience in the car. You should invite your fan to join you (with min. fee) whenever you go up genting. It’s better than any roller coaster ride.

Golf mk 7.5 dashboard active info display with the infotainment looks better and easier to operate
looking for a good second hand mk 7.5 1.4L but I wish I could afford a mk 7.5 R 😂 got hooked / poisoned by it
This is a car worth spending your money for. The feeling of driving this cannot be realised on any Japanese or Korean car.

@@iamhardwell2844 I own a MK7 and new Mazda 3, the Japanese still hardly enjoyable in terms of driving experience and handling performance compared with Golf.

Hi auncle. Back then when you reviewed civic FE, i dah 50/50 between FE & R line. But at last i proceed with the golf after 6months waiting. So far so good and the seat & steering are nice TBH. 😊😂

@@ivanwongcl5766 so far ok bro. 2.5 months, mileage about 8k km. Alot long distance drive. Also did 1900+- km from semenyih - wang kelian - krabi - ao nang - krabi - hat yai - bukit kayu hitam - semenyih. All ok bro.
I just booked after test driving one. The handling is really a superb experience. So far gearbox all ok? And which ron u use? Ron95 enough kah?
Now using aishin 8at, by right and logically should be much more more reliable right? I know it's hard to compare to swift dsg type but need something reliable 😂
@@spongezack92 hello. So far no issue. Had a chance to drive my mk8 from selangor - krabi - selangor. No issue. Aisin 8sp still good even not as fast as DSG. But better during traffic jam / town. Shift to D then the car goes immediately at the moment you release the brake. Have another vw equipped with dry clutch DSG, compared to this you are not losing so much in term of performance IMHO. Only you wont feel as fun as DSG while playing with paddle shift. Highway cruise also you boleh relax 3000rpm about 174kmh😄. Ron95 is enough. Btw welcome to the club bro. seems like the torque converter struggling to pull it up .. but i think for a daily driver it would suits in stop and go city traffic
This is the hill-climb video I'v been waiting for as the other day I was checking out this Golf 8 at VW, I felt into love immediately, though I wasn't so quite so fond with its exterior design while looking at it online before that. Love the moon gray on this Golf. Just wanna ask, how does the Aisin gearbox feel? Is it lazy?
No it is not. I think they did a great job matching the engine to the new gearbox. Watch the video, and turn up the volune, and listen for the gearbox esp the changes in engine tone as the gears change.
BMW M cars all went back to the trusty 8-speed ZF automatics and now VW, the company that introduced DSG, is also going back to automatics. My opinion is that automatics are the most reliable gearbox, they only need oil change once every 100000 kilometers and they will last forever.
But they slip, and do not have a direct feel, but certsinly they are getting to be so much better now, and will get even better later. Even cvt is getting better.

Companies went to the zf because its cheaper than using a Dual Clutch. Just look at the mk8 compared to a mk7.5 and you'll see the build quality is worse.

The Mazda is a bigger car. Handling is very close,

They are getting ready for the monsoon. And new developments. Soon we won''t be able to use this road because there will be lots of residential areas and junctions with cars coming in and out.
Last time uncle khong racing rally don’t have all these computer assists eg ABS, vector thingy to help u drive oh?

is the power on this golf r-line the same as the civic fe or less?
Civic FE: 182 ps Golf Tsi, 150 PS. Golf GTi, 245 PS Golf R, 320 ps
If its true that R-Line is not being produced anymore for 2023 it be so sad. This is such a nice car even without the DSG... argh no budget and this shows up.
I think the high approved selling price makes it a no- go. All cars need an approved selling price, and this one is proced even above the Honda Civic, a much bigger and with more powerful car, both being CKD.
The valuations by the authorities are to determine the tax amount for the cars.
So now we know that double of nothing equals nothing.
@@YSKhongDriving So true, really sad though after watching your Rline, GTI and R videos i was set on trying to get the R Line.. Went to showroom they told me current models are not being produced anymore except for GTI with ADAS and DRL incoming with a 10k price increase.

Study cornering lines, weight transfer, how to drive a fwd, things like that. Understand the theory first, and everything will fall into place.

Nope, but this is the TSi. The GTi and R still use DSG.
Uncle how did you maintain the gear on Manual for a long time?
Push the gear lever to the left, I think, to put it into manual, and it wilk stsy in manual.
How's the pick up after 140km/h? Is it good?

Would you say this car is more fun to drive than the Civic FE and Mazda 3 even with the lack of dsg and relatively lower HP?
I would say it is ALSO as fun to drive. It is not always about any single feature, but the entire package.

It doesn't need it. Actually tje 7 speed dsg is very good, but unfortunately people lost faith because of the failures of a certain batch. Hence the change to the 8 speed Aisin
@@YSKhongDriving Not really, because it's cost cutting measure by VW in M'sia and Australia. Actually Golf MK8 R Line in Europe is equipped with the latest 1.5TSI engine paired with 7DSG. Unfortunately here is offered with 1.4TSI and 8 speed auto combo. Definitely cost issue also

The 330i is a larger car and it is pretty good. It is a very nice car. The GTi is smaller, but very engaging to drive. It is also lighter and is more agile.
Your choice will depend on what you want. The BMW in this case is more mainstream.

...and the 330i is way more expensive but its a family sedan vs a golf which is a family hatch. As per uncle YS, 330i is more mainstream (ie common) while the GTI is rare & for most ppl in the mainstream its just a golf & with not soo loud color (not the red) can keep you below the radar(sleeper). This is why i opt for the GTI 😅

It depends on you. Most people I know would be quite happy with it. In daily driving this car is frugal on fuel, and road tax is cheaper. I would love the GTi or the R, but for budget reasons, I may take this.

Ordinary drivers will not feel the difference.
civic fe doesnt have electronic differential lock. that alone makes a lot of difference when cornering fast.
You pergi test drive one. Honda is not really a contender 😂 in term of handling and the engine. It's AT (aishin, lexus own gearbox, volvo and Peugeot using it) compare to honda cvt.

Why this Golf look like handle better than the GTI? Is it because it carry less speed into the corner? Cos GTI is perhaps a lot faster n forced to understeer more despite overall faster n better handling than regular Golf.

This one only has 150 PS. Definitely the GTi is better, if you have the budget. This is also fun for those who dont really want to go that fast.
