    Fun fact, they almost went extinct during ww2 but hunters imported a big enough population to the United States that it kept the breed alive.

    I've had 5 Brittanys over the years, and 4 of them were outstanding bird-dogs (the other was gun-shy). Everything this video says about them is right on the money: loyal, loving, gentle, obedient, and full of energy.

      Brittany's are great but they are not born already docked they are born with tails. I know my parents breed Brittany's. Their tails are cut off at about 2 days old. This is now outlawed in Europe as a cruel and unnecessary procedure and unless you are hunting them in heavy brush there is no need to dock them. I have a akc certified purebreed brittany with an unlocked tail and I am so glad that we kept her tail! Other than that they are great dogs and make great kid friendly medium sized family dogs

      @@mlangan22I agree with you. My family had a Brittany dumped on us in 1979 and her tail wasn't docked. She was beautiful and since she had the typical Brittany personality we named her Happy. She lived to age 12 1/2. She sold me on the breed.

      Some Britts are born with naturally short tails and some are not. I've raised several litters and have seen both types of tails in newborn puppies.

    😭 “don’t do well in apartments”, oh okay.

    • @670TXxGregorysxXT670
      @670TXxGregorysxXT670  4 роки тому +6

      If you get one in an apartment, you must take the dog out minimum 5 times a day. Two of those times needs to be full recreational hours. Leaving a Brittany in an apartment will crush the spirit of the dog and probably cost a lot in separation anxiety destruction.

    People get these dogs thinking that "exercise" means a slow walk around the block. That might work for an older lab, but these guys need to run hard, off leash.

    • @NoThankUBeQuiet
      @NoThankUBeQuiet 2 роки тому +2

      You can exercise a dog just fine in a yard. Most people suck at providing adequate mental stimulation

    • @Drummr88
      @Drummr88 2 роки тому +1

      @@NoThankUBeQuiet I'm not trying to be argumentative, because your dog may be different, but my brittany doesn't even begin to meet his exercise needs in the yard. He has a gas tank like you wouldn't believe, and needs miles of space to run.

    • @NoThankUBeQuiet
      @NoThankUBeQuiet 2 роки тому

      @@Drummr88 Yah you have to actually make it fun and not just throw it out there alone. Shocker.
      I won't break the law just because people think off leash exercise is better.
      Now maybe it's because I opt for a lot of mental stimulation/training to fulfill needs and have a multi dog household. But I've never had a problem meeting ANY dogs needs in this fashion and I have a mutt that is higher energy than any brittany I've EVER met. Have you considered that the more you do the fitter your dog becomes and the more physical exercise it will take to tire them out. Combining physical and mental makes a huge difference. Not to say we never go out but I'm not putting others in uncomfortable situations because it's easier for me. I say this as someone who has had a reactive dog who can't go anywhere because of off leash people AND someone who has been attacked.

  • @mikep490

    Note: Never breed a pair with normally docked tails or you'll lose most of the litter. Docking the tail is a common mistake, IMO, for that reason. That genetic defect could be eliminated in a couple generations if tails were left 1/2 their natural length. The tail also makes a wonderful flag. Not only does it show the happy character of this breed but also is perfect when hunting. It's visible when the dog is in tall weeds plus stands still only when the pup is pointing.

    Do they do better in warm or cold environment?

    • @dariog36th
      @dariog36th 3 місяці тому

      They do well in medium climates. Nothing extreme since they don’t have a double coat like a German shepherd. Don’t leave it out on a hot day in Arizona or freezing day in Minnesota.

    In this show on animal planet it says that this dog is "very easy to train" but the website for the same channel says they're "hard to train". Hmmm.... I'll believe the video over Animal Planet's Dog Breed Selector I guess.

    My mom got a brittany and its too much for her to handle, the have lots of energy and need to run around and explore, its not a good dog if you want to take it on three walks a day and that's it.

    • @Drummr88
      @Drummr88 4 роки тому +4

      They need to run! Full out. Off leash. A walk around the block won't cut it.
      And I don't care what any bleeding heart hippies say, a shock collar works wonders with them - as long as they know exactly why they're being shocked, and what it is that you want them to do. They're quick learners.
