I swear some of these dogs break the law of conservation of mass. How can you remove a full dog worth of fur and still have a full dog worth of fur on the dog? It's amazing and mind boggling to watch every time.
Right?! I have been saying it for years, these dogs should be bald after loosing that much hair.... yet there they are, fluffy as ever. It doesn't make sense, it shouldn't make sense, it is magic.
Don't want to be technical, but there is conservation of volume going on, not conservation of mass... The fur just gets less dense and more air is able to get in between the hairs, which is why they look like they have just as much fur... I know you probably know this, but when I see a miss-use of a scientific term I can't stop myself from saying something about it...
There was a vacuum think it was ad years ago where a fluffy gray kitty sneezed and expelled fur in that kind of a way. It was hysterical and he looked a good deal like my one furbag.
I have to squish watching these videos when my brothers dog is not at home, otherwise the giant (great Dane x Neapolitan mastiff) baby will lose his mind trying to "rescue" the poor puppers being tortured...
Thick fur indeed. Finnish Lapphunds were historically used for herding reindeer at the Arctic Circle in the far north of Finland. They don't really feel the cold that much.
Our Lapphund would sleep either in the yard, she would let snow fall on her until she was totally covered. Indoors she would sleep in the warmest spot of sunlight.
I was expecting a much smaller dog at the end, at least. Like, chihuahua sized. For April Fools, Vanessa should groom Ilo again and then swap him out for a Pom with similar coloring after she's done drying him.
Your calm but firm handling very quickly teaches these dogs that 1) no amount of whining will make you stop, 2) you won't actually do anything painful, and possibly 3) after you're done they feel much more comfortable.
If I ever got a Finnish Lapphund, I would get a herding-line one. They tend to have a lot less fur. Of course, I would need a house with no neighbours first! And for anyone wondering, the name is Ilo (as in i-l-o). It basically means happiness.
We met the most beautiful Brown with Tanpoint Lapphund puppy last year, having never heard of them before, then of course there's one on Vanessa's videos. He's grown now, see him regularly and he's even more gorgeous.
Lapponian Herder is the short haired one. But finnish lapphunds can and is also used for herding or atleast they should (and they are used in Lappland). They are not so bred that they would have forgotten herding.
Oh, I like that even more than my assumption of his name being an Electric Light Orchestra homage. I'll write that down for my trade writing work, as it's not a word or nomen I'm familiar with; thank you for that kindness!
Ilo is happiness but more towards Joy. Onni is male name in use which is also happiness. Onnellisuus is the formal written word of happiness. (Native speaker, also formal written and non formal spoken are two somewhat different type of weirdness)
Lapponian Herders indeed love to work, and are loud at it. My brother's dog is always in herding mode, trying to keep us humans in one clump, and is upset whenever one "leaves the pack"... 😅
My favorite story about grooming has to come from my sister about her cat Snickers. He is not like other cats. This lad LOVES baths, LOVES being brushed, and LOVES having his nails trimmed. Nothing but purrs and total compliance. She decided that she was going to give him a lion cut, since he is a long haired little man. He’s his usual happy, calm self, and when she pulls out the trimmer… he’s purring even louder. He loved it! He was eating up the attention! And then he stood up, and his fur didn’t follow. He was so confused and spooked! It must have been so funny to see the poor guy so shocked that his fur had betrayed him like that! He still sits still for any and all grooming, thankfully.
What a wonderful story, so vividly told! 🤣 Snickers sounds like an amazing and hilarious kitty. (Was he an orange marmalade tabby? For some reason they seem to be especially weird & funny - cf all those "one orange braincell" memes... also unusually people-oriented, and generally very tolerant of handling if it means more attention!)
@@anna_in_aotearoa3166 Thanks! He’s actually a grey cow cat, but spiritually, he is DEFINITELY an orange kitty. He and his brother, Dash (same coloration), share that one braincell. Dash lit his belly on fire one winter by standing over a lit candle!
@GeorgeABMoore Oh my gosh! 😱😂 I'm glad his brother survived that unintended incendiary experience! Pets of the lovable-but-scatty sort are an endless source of both amusement and worry... The number of stories I've heard from dog-owning friends about expensive vet visits following ingestion of stockings, broken glass, gravel, you name it! 🤦🏻♀️ At least most cats seem to be rather more sensible about what they'll eat, even if still occasionally inclined to court food-coma through over-stuffing themselves...?
Aww. I have a little girl that I am working on haircuts with…. We only do a very small amount at a time. Each time she gets up to leave she takes the cut hair and puts it on the top of her head. I think Snickers would have done that if he could.
What a gorgeous dog. It's obvious his humans do a great job with his fur (and his global training) - it's so healthy and well maintained. And so thick! Holy heck, I know it's a (mostly) black dog but the wall changed color! I'm so happy the tickets to the fundraiser are selling well! Thank you for doing this to all these dogs (and the humans helping them).
They look like pudgy teddy bears. Then they turn into little wolf/shepherd sorta thing before their hair just explodes into puff ball. Its almost too cute!😢
I think he did great this time because he realized how good these grooms make him feel. No way he didn't feel great after all that fur was gone. Beautiful doggie. ❤🎉
Actually the fluffier version was not used that much for herding, the reindeer dogs were with the shorter coat because the snow doesn't get stuck to the fur. The short version and long version used to come from the same litters but were separated into different breeds. The Lapphund does have a herding line which has a much lighter coat.
Yay the return of Ilo. He is the reason I am now sitting here with my own Finnish Lapphund of almost 18 months, named Sisu. I gotta say Finnish Lapphunds are great dogs. They are so friendly and smart, a bit stubborn but also pretty easy to train. Although not for the lazy family, they require a couple solid walks per day plus mental stimulation. But I love my boy and would not trade him for anything in the world.
@@curious_soul7 Crossing my fingers you'll have the chance to get your own dog some day. Sisu is the best name for a finnish lapphund imo. The most finnish word for the most finnish dog. It suits him perfectly. :D
You weren't kidding about the furnado, especially on this backside. This is a gorgeous little dog and his groom turned out beautiful. He is obviously a well-loved and cared for dog; so sweet and cooperative.
@@dovie2blue I would guess so. This breed is very common in Finland (you might have guessed it from the name :D) and most people would feel very bad leaving their beloved pet behind when they move.
Ilo is one of my favorite of your grooms. He's such a gorgeous boy and did behave so much more than it seemed he would by his initial whining. You do such an amazing job! ❤
So enjoyed watching this one. We had a Finnish Lapphund for 13 1/2 years. So many similar sounds and movements. Even his panting reminded me of my Bear Bear. Makes me wanna get another one.
In Finnish the long hairs at the back of the front legs are colloquially called "liuhuttimet", which is difficult to translate as finnish is so onomatopoetic and you can just make up words as you go, but I'd translate it to smth like "little flags" or "(party) streamers", something that catches the wind and flutters behind the dog as they run/walk. Hence not wanting to have them cut! The same kinda goes for the toe hairs, they're kinda like decorations on the dog, but it's understandable to cut them to stop slipping. They protect the paw pads from cold in winter, though. Thank you for having a lapphund video! Thanks Ilo!
When my husband & I adopted our first cat (RIP, Worf), we swore that we wouldn't "baby talk" to him like Vanessa was doing around the 8 minute mark. LOL. We weren't very successful. I think it lasted until the evening when he came out of hiding and we were so overjoyed that he had decided that "yes, these humans are nice and I shall rule over this kingdom for the rest of my years". We've adopted every cat we've had but unfortunately we can only adopt one at a time due to our small living space. Enrich your lives by adopted a cat or dog from your local shelter. Please get your pet fixed if they haven't been fixed by the shelter. If you can keep them inside for several years (while in heat), you should wait until they've passed their 2nd Birthday to get them fixed so they have the benefit of those added hormones to help prevent some cancers (some, not all, and it doesn't work for every dog/cat either). Unfortunately, there's no way of avoiding illnesses in your pets. Always keep your cats indoors or on a leash outdoors (yes...I said keep a cat on a leash). Your leash laws apply to ALL domesticated animals which means when you let your kitty out to roam at night. Anyone who ends up with your cat in their yard (destroying their yard) can capture and take them to the shelter (if you're lucky that's what they do) and inform the shelter staff that whover the owner is they're breaking the law by letting their cat roam. Laws differ by local jurisdictions so check your local jurisdiction. In Montana, if you live in town, you MUST have your cat on a leash (or your bunny or your dog). We've used our tender traps to capture cats who've decided that our house is a litter box. We usually give the cat back with a copy of the law regarding leashes (the first, second, and sometimes 3rd time we catch). However, if we don't know the owners, we take the cat to the shelter and they'll scan the chip to contact the owners. We're never given that information nor do they give the owners our information. We feel horrible doing it because it is NOT the cat's fault. The cats are being cats. The owners are being irresponsible.
Thank You for mentioning Cancer. I am not in the Veterinary Field, but I did volunteer at an Animal Hospital. It was the veterinarian who told me that.
I'm glad to see the trend moving away from free-roaming cats, even though it goes against long tradition? Both because it significantly extends feline lifespans (far less fights, infected wounds, vehicular deaths & escaping as ferals) but also because of the massive impact that outdoor cats have on our unique endangered species of birds, lizards & even giant insects. There's so much great guidance on YT now too around enriching a cat's indoor environment, helping out owners who haven't tried that before? Really great when owners have cats that also accept leash training &/or backpack carrier travel though, so that they can share outdoor adventures safely - esp. if you also have dogs you're walking.
Ilo is such a good boy and SO MUCH FUR!!! could spin it with some wool and knit winter accessories. Thank you to Ilo's family for showcasing their beautiful well trained boy :)
What a handsome teddy bear. He is stunning after his grooming ❤ props to his owners for exceptional training and patience, and to Vanessa for bringing this furnado some major relief. Ilo you are one very handsome boy ❤!
The scale might automatically zero itself with light weight. Place something of a few pounds on the scale for the scale to register. Then place the bag of hair on top to see the total weight.
Oh my goodness Elo is so adorable. He definitely blew out a lot of coat with the help of your dryer. What a furnado. You do such great work on your fur babies Vanessa. Thank you for sharing. 🥰🥰
I follow another Lapphund from Svalbard - they're just giant puff balls! Up there above the Arctic circle they love to just lie outdoors in the cold, love the snow, but have to be leashed so they don't chase the (protected) reindeer! Amazing dogs!
You are to be comended for all the tireless and amazing grooming and transformations that take place in your groomer's store!❤❤❤❤❤ Keep up the good work, Miss. Vanessa We really admire you and are very grateful to you for all you do, over there in Niagra Falls,Canada!!❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Had to turn them on to see for myself😂😂😂
It also says [music] when it's just the sound of the blower. There's no music.
so, i guess im not the only one who uses captions on the dryer part. the applause got me too, applause for hair explosion, lol.

And I bet she doesn’t mind one bit being proven wrong.
He was such a good boi! 💖
He has such a cute face!!
He was very sweet in the first vid as well.
I feel if Ilo was a cartoon dog. He would sneeze and explode all his fur out in one achoo.

Everyone in the room is immediately covered in it like a bomb went off lmfao
That's such a cute image. 😊

SO great to see Ilo again! He's one of my favorites. And not only because he represents Finland, either. He's so fluffy and gorgeous.
3rd time is charm. He was so good & is beautiful.
Ilo is such a good boy and SO MUCH FUR!!! could spin it with some wool and knit winter accessories.
Thank you to Ilo's family for showcasing their beautiful well trained boy :)
What a handsome boy he did so well ! Thanks for sharing !
Vanessa wears hearing protection; Elo then proceeds to be exceptionally quiet, this time.
Ilo.
Thanks
Very calm dog today. Beautiful grooming. Incredible amount of fur on the floor and everywhere. Thanks.
Joy-boy Ilo repping Finland so well and being on his best behaviour
What a handsome teddy bear. He is stunning after his grooming ❤ props to his owners for exceptional training and patience, and to Vanessa for bringing this furnado some major relief.
Ilo you are one very handsome boy ❤!
Elo is super fluffy😍
Shed enough fur for another dog, just in time for summer!
It’s Ilo btw
His coat is fantastic!
Aaa, Ilo the goodest boy is back! He definitely learned from the last time that grooming isn't that bad.
Amazing dogs!
aww he knows you're there to pamper him, you can tell he's enjoying it!
Nice to see a Finnish Lapphund. If I could own a dog this breed would definitly be a choice.
I knew it was Elo as soon as I saw his picture and was super excited! His video is one of my favorites!
Ilo.
He did very well.
He is soooo adorable and he looked gorgeous afterwards! Glad he was a lot less stressed ❤❤❤
Seems he's finally resigned to his fate.....
Oh my goodness what a beautiful animal!! My heart melts for this breed, so loveable. Great for the lonely man who needs a companion.
Snowglobe effect with the blowout. He seemed very calm throughout the groom.
Hims a cutie patootie afterwards! 😍🥰 And he was definitely a good boy!!! Great job for both of you! 🎉
He was such a good boy, but holy hair!😂
Also thank you for helping to find home for senior dogs! You truly make a difference in so many ways!
What a great way to start our morning!
You are to be comended for all the tireless and amazing grooming and transformations that take place in your groomer's store!❤❤❤❤❤
Keep up the good work, Miss. Vanessa
We really admire you and are very grateful to you for all you do, over there in
Niagra Falls,Canada!!❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Ilo has obviously figured out that fighting this process is a waste of energy and surrendered to the pampering. 😂❤️
I’ve got a year-old lappie, the amount of hair that flies around when I clean him is STAGGERING. This video and your other video on this furball has been wildly helpful. Thank you! 🙏🏻 ☺️
The blow drying with hair flying reminds me of a cotton candy machine.😁
Omg you're so right!
What a beautiful dog! I'm amazed there was a dog left after so much blown coat!
Boy, ELO was a really good boy for his groom this time. Maybe he'll turn out to be one of your easier dogs to groom!❤😊 He seems like a sweet boy.
Ilo.
