I still remember her time in Berlin, where she was unfortunately used far too often in small roles. But when she finally sang Aida, the Trovatore-Leonore, the knot had long since burst. Nobody had that warmth in their voice like her, the lightness in the high register, the balanced register, it was simply wonderful to experience her. Suddenly she disappeared from the stage and I heard various reasons why.
I heard her many times at Deutsche Oper Berlin Berlin....first time as Leonora in "Il Trovatore"she was outstanding, nothing like that after her - NOTHING !!!! Her forte was bigger than big and her piani carried over the biggest orchestra, she had chest voice like a Mezzosoprano.....and on top was a very nice person....
A beautiful voice and a lovely woman. It was sad to me to hear her joke about being overweight in this interview. It was her struggle with obecity that inevitably took performing away from her.
this is my aunt ❤ always an outstanding woman and a voice to match
You can be very proud of her❤
Big beautiful voice.
My daughter learns cello from Sharon's son, a fine cellist and a great Suzuki teacher. He talks about her all the time. What a music family.

I agree, she was wonderful, I saw her many times as Leonore and never heard a better one.

Oh, I remember those days. Her Aida was unmatched and I also loved her Leonora in Trovatore.
What a gorgeous voice!!!!!

Because people are stupid.....when she started singing people forgot about her "overweight' she was a kind of Callas Phenomenon....
Where is the rest of the footage from that Mahler 8th concert? I would love to see/hear the rest of it. Sweet is extraordinary.
Amazing voice!!!
I've always loved her
Very nice featurette.
Great interview 😊
Unfortunately, her weight gave her problems with her career. We lost a great voice to teaching.
He lost 20 pounds in Germany and she gained 200.
