I find it really sad how MLMs manipulate so many people into believing that MLM is the only path to success. I’ve seen several of these huns talk about how they owned their own small business and how MLM is so much better because they don’t have to deal with all the minutiae of being an actual business owner. 🙄

Esthetician here!!! Chelsea you are right. Some ingredients can be linked to causing cancer but mostly it’s when they’re use in high amounts. Usually those ingredients are at a very low concentrate. There are a lot of sunscreens that don’t have toxic ingredients like that. I know some certain sunscreens aren’t the best and i would recommend others. However, everything is a chemical. Water is a chemical. This whole “chemicals are bad” is so infuriating because not all chemicals are bad and some are necessary to product formulation to keep it stable. And oh, SUNSCREEN DOES NOT CAUSE CANCER. the SUN causes skin cancer.

Also, isn't it more about the fact that there is a higher risk of the ability to develop it in conjunction with consuming those ingredients in whatever way if you are already predisposed to developing cancers? Like if it runs in your family or something?

The worst part is that IF they were to get skin cancer, they would stil blame the sun protection they used before "seeing the light" and use it to push the oils even more. "I got cancer from my sun block, let me help you to avoid it with these oils".

Coming for the Girl Scouts is a bold strategy, Cotton. But I understand why: The GSA is an organization that actually teaches girls leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement using products and services people actually want so she’s completely jealous. Because little girls are better at doing what she pretends to do.

I thought that was stupid too! GS is not trying to promise a bunch of money to the girls they recruit, it's to help their growth overall. The sales from their products are to keep the organization running and for good causes, not to line the pockets of the troop leader

    • @cmbwtheliel
      @cmbwtheliel 2 роки тому +8

@@natef735 I went and looked it up to make sure: according to the official GSA website, troops receive 75 cents per box sold and can earn more cents per box based on length of scout participation and total number of boxes sold. No up-front payment from the troop is required to participate in the cookie selling program, they just start selling during the season.
So there’s no recruiting, no up-front cost, guaranteed financial reward. It’s literally the opposite of network marketing…

Toxicologist here, re: the 'cancer causing' chemicals - what we say in toxicology is "the dose defines the poison". Everything can be poisonous or toxic at certain dose, the threshold for that depends on a lot of things including how it is introduced into your system (applied to the skin, ingested, etc.). So just saying something is "toxic" or "cancer causing" is not enough context or info.

Did the "sunscreen girl" really put a cooking oil into her video as "sun protection" and described it as a helpful tool to "not burn to a crisp" ... Omg this is so hilarious. I laughed. The sun laughed. The totally crispy chicken in my skillet laughed.
By the way, here in Germany we have a influencer (Leon from xskincare if anyone is interested) who works in the chemical field and he has debunked the "cooking oil is sun protection"-stuff really well. Basically there is no way from a science view to protect the skin with it, not even for 20 minutes, because of the chemical reaction the oils have with the sunlight. Not one component of the cooking oils has the ability to block uv rays (which cause the sundamage on the skin). And this is backed up not only by him, but from several people who are working on this field like dermatologist, scientists and many more.

Okay, I'm back because I started screaming at the 'cancer causing sunscreen' garbage. I say this as an Australian, the creators of sunburns every October - March, and owner of some pale ass Irish skin - WEAR SUNSCREEN THAT'S APPROVED BY YOUR COUNTRY'S CANCER COUNCIL/HEAD CHARITY. The sun, does in fact, cause skin cancer.

Fellow Aussie here. My mum is currently recovering from having skin cancer removed from her forehead and nose. This is her second operation. Wear sunscreen! We use the cancer council brand after the investigation into the SPF levels found some weren't as high as it claimed.

Not a day goes by where I don’t wear sunscreen, even if I’m just chilling at home. I have a bit more natural protection being dark skinned (I rarely burn) but not gonna take the risk of skin cancer. An added bonus is the ageing prevention (although I mostly subscribe to the idea that we should embrace getting older)

In Canada, Girl Guides only sell the mint cookies part of the year and their sandwich cookies the rest of the year. Whenever I get pitched cookies by a girl guide when they’re not selling the mint thins, all I can think is like, why are you even bothering? People only want the mint thins! Of course I am always polite to the Guide when I decline to purchase at that time.
This comment was still more relevant than the argument comparing MLMs to Girl Scouts.

My favorite sunscreen is supergoop's unseen sunscreen, its a chemical sunscreen thats also a pore blurring primer, so great both under makeup and alone :) i also like the Neutrogena hydro boost one. Neither leave a white cast! If you wear makeup i recommend getting a powder or setting spray with spf so you can reapply during the day. Dont forget your hair part and your ears either babes stay safe 🌞

Hi CC, I always love your straight talking, eye-rolling, spicy anti-MLM content. You are EPIC!
As for your neck, I have a "Normal" Thyroid Goitre (the specialist put it in air quotes :D), which is totally weird, how can you call an abnormally large Thyroid "Normal"? Your guess is as good as mine. I've had nuclear scans and get regular Ultrasounds and blood tests done, so I am absolutely fine. No one has mentioned it to me in my videos, only my family doctor and my Consultant Surgeon Gynecologist...which I thought was odd...I told him he was meant to be treating my Endometriosis, not looking at my throat :D. We had a good laugh about it.
Keep giving us your fantastic anti-MLM content, it's so important to get people's eyes opened xx

As a Clinical Herbalist these frocking crunchy snake oil garbage gremlins grind my gears to no end. The first advice I give to all my clients is to start with their primary care physician, herbalism addresses the entire body system and helps to maintain a well running machine. We are trained first and foremost to never diagnose, treat, or promise results for any issue and 100% would never go against science let alone spout off the magic of essential oils. 98% of essential oils should never be used directly on the skin without carrier oils, don't even get me started on consuming them. End of the day EOs are aromatherapy only and aren't really ever used in treatment plans. Basically like the chocolate chip cookie after dinner. It's nice to have, but isn't necessary.

As someone who has suffered from eczema I entire life, and who is also extremely pale, I used to be prescribed five minutes in the tanning bed like 1-2x/month to control my eczema for the UV rays. However, if I were to go in the sun with no sunscreen, I would also get skin cancer, just like my pale mother did, and just like her mother did. Sunscreen is life-saving

Oil is literally what they used to use to tan more... some people will use the term “sun tan lotion” or “sun tan oil” interchangeably with sunscreen because that’s what people used to use to promote a tan before we realized the sun can harm us.
