But looking at it now, even from the beginning there were so many things that they did right that wasnt traditional to how other kpop groups promoted themselves. The amount and the type of content they had put out to nurture the fandom and engage with them was so smart and effective. So many things that they have done have became industry standards these days that remembering they werent all that common before bts blows my mind sometimes. So yes their success came as a surprise, but it totally makes sense now. Also that jimin photo on the ground, i can't handle it so good

Lol, what a coincidence, Jimin's featured in museums and art exhibits across the world because he's the muse for many artists, particularly Lee K whose illustrations of Jimin for years are exhibited in different parts of the world. Jimin also inspired one of the arts exhibited in Korea International Art Fair (largest art exhibition in South Korea) in a collection featuring iconic figures like Gandhi and Marilyn Monroe. And that's why RM recently said he sees Jimin in the art exhibits he goes to. Jimin just inspires artists. I remember that back in 2014 when BTS was just a small group they did a photoshoot for TenAsia and few months later a group of photographers voted Jimin as one of top 5 most photogenic idols in Asia, lol. He's the only one from a rookie group too. So yeah, i understand your need to gush over Jimin. The director of one of Marvel's movies included Jimin's first ever produced song that he sang along with V and later revealed she really liked Jimin and was blushing during "confessing" how cute she finds Jimin (Kit Harrington beside her side-eyeing her with a smile, lmao). A book author included Jimin in her published book. Recently a Japanese Olympic player was proud showing her notebook with Jimin stciker and her back keychain designed by Jimin, despite her team competing against Korea, lmao. It's like wired in all Jimin fans to proclaim how proud we are stanning him😂
As a side note, not any group could do what they've done. There's a reason no one has done it but them. The Big 3 have spent a lot of time and money trying to manufacture the "next BTS" and no one has come close. There once-in-a-generation artists. And if they hadn't done it, no other group would have. It's not like it was inevitable that a k-group would become the top artist in the world (literally--they outsold literally every other artist on the planet last year) and if it wasn't BTS it would be someone else. That's not how it works. There's no one magic spot that some lucky group got to fill and it was them. They are special. I don't think you had a negative intention when you said that but I'm just putting it out there. They're different and they deserve what they've built. On another note, HYBE (formerly BigHit Entertainment) is bigger than the Big 3 combined and they did it without turning their artists into indentured servants or choking out small labels, and they're so big they now run not just Seventeen, Nuest, etcs' labels, but artists like Justin Beiber, J Balvin, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and many many more are under HYBE too.

I would have never expected them to grow this big but no one else could have done what they do. As much kpop as I've listened to, none of them occupy my interest like bts. None of them could be bts.
I was a fan in 2015 and I can tellll you about their rise and why it was THEM. I was a exo fan at the time but switched over to BTS bc of what they were doing . I don’t wanna seem like I’m trashing exo but like , some might say why weren’t they big and instead bts became bigger than them and all of kpop combined?? I remember bts started releasing super iconic shit , like BST, HYYH albums, short films, the over the top mma + MAMA performances (2016 is when the big budget came. They spent a lot of money on their performances during this time . They went all out . Look at MAMA 2016 with jungkook floating in the air with the lighting in the back, the jihope dance duo, FIRE and BST with the extra choreo with 100s of dancers at the end (they did extra shit they didn’t even have to do like WINGS short films and theories. They had the best choreo in the industry, they had extra shit like (SBS dance practice, intro performance trailer etc) Not only was the music giving us bops (HYYH and lys series was fucking insane.) THEY Gave us whole FILMS and fans theorized and did all that shit with the storyline...they also gave us LOOKS (BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS AGAIN!) and A shit on of AMAZING performances. Mma 2016,2018,2019, 2021+ MAMA all proves that. And there’s more than that, but those huge ones have cemented them. Exo / other groups were not doing it like them , and nor are they doing it like them today in terms of performances and artistry. I have never seen a group do so much cool shit like they have , done and made all the right moves etc. the way bighit artistic team and ideas they had really helped bc some companies just don’t do stuff like that and do much much different thing. For example to use exo again, exo storyline as a group is much more ...unreal as in they use fantastical concepts as a group (exo are aliens from another planet idk the whole story but it’s more along those lines) whereas bts storyline is fictional it still is real in the sense of hyyh it deals with subjects like mental health / domestic abuse, in their music videos and story line etc. the WINGS storyline was not as “real life” but it was much more something that was really cool with the concepts of heaven and hell / temptation etc) . I think the type of route bts went is much cooler and more attractive . I mean to ME in 2016 and now I thought bts whole concept was much cooler and interesting and I think some people don’t like the the fantastical concepts of being aliens / vampires (enhyphen for example...not my thing...) In my opinion as an exo enjoyer but not really a Stan I can say that they did not give us those same things and can be contributed to why they didn’t get as big as they did . Not saying they don’t have bops too (they def do!!! I’m not saying they suck at all ) but their creative team and SM just didn’t do it right with promoting or releasing the right shit , bts got it right and were around at the RIGHT time. Time plays a factor and at the time bts was doing what nobody else did. From experiencing all their content since 2015 it’s been sooo insane and they always try to top their shit ESP with performances (ptd in LA for exmaple , black swan + bst + fake love was insane) Other factors that contribute to their success besides their music and performances is their underdog story (which is true , they were not set up to be that group that conquered everything...big 3 groups has already been trying to be pushed in the west before them but it never stuck...bts had never TRIED to purposely become appealing to the USA , the fans loved what they did and then their success in the USA and the world followed) . Another factor is that their different characters / personalities along with their work ethic and love they have for eachother. The member all have a great relationship with eachother and it’s really wholesome to see . People like to see people who are happy around eachother...I always felt with exo (and I only mention exo bc I was a fan of them too, I haven’t been much of a fan of other boy group groups) some of the members were boring / lacked chemistry with eachother. I don’t think that’s the most IMPORTANT thing but I noticed a difference with bts and their chemistry on and off stage compared with exo. That’s another reason why I liked them more too. This is just my two cents...bts made it before anybody else bc of these reasons: the right time, the music, the amazing performances, the choreo, the artistic appeal (art films + story line), the chemistry, the stage presence, the bond, the story , all the content they release.
you've said exactly what I feel. I knew KPOP since 2009, but I've always just been a casual listener. I knew BTS from the start cos I saw them on a music show, and although I didn't become an ARMY until 2015, even from the start, their energy was just different. And not to put down other groups, but about the performances, it's so true. Honestly, when I watched those year end award shows and festivals, a lot of the performances just like any other daily music shows. But BTS always outdid themselves with the choreo, planning, music rearrangements and etc even when they didn't have big budgets. I also like that I can feel their sincerity and passion, not only in performing, but like you said, their chemistry off-stage
Yeahhh . As an international audience, i first knew them by their content like bangtan bomb + sub. Their company giving so much content with subtitle is what caught me good. And this just make their connection with fans easier, people can get to know them better without waiting some fan account editing the subtitle. I remember the good ol day life update/bts journal with each member self talk. Its like we grow up together 😭😂😂

I have been a fan since 2015, I had that feeling like many others had they were going to be big and thinking that bts was underrated(and still is cuz they deserve so much more beyond the kpop label), not only that but since forever they have been so hard working, I was not really active fan as today and also used to see how other groups were, but bts are different they have a team work that you ain't ever gonna see in any other group, they are effortless funny, their friendship are really something else, the care in everything also namjoon leadership is beyond amazing, everything their talent, hard work, charisma, family like, everything leaded to their success and no one can copy that, they can try but ain't gonna be like this, Kpop groups are trying so hard to copy their success but ain't happenning cuz things like this only happen once in a life time. they're unique, and more than anything else their music is just fire! Including lyrics and everything, They have just every bop you can like! BTS STILL DESERVES SO MUCH MORE.💜

I became part of BTS ARMY almost 6 years ago. I saw all the talent and personality that I knew they were going to be huge. And I cheered for them to be a big deal. I knew they would be huge because of the lyrics they write, the dedication they have for their craft, they are open for criticism so that they can change things that need improvement. They are so respectful to everyone, even haters. Jk's tattoos(the ones we see) are: **Heart for (i 💜 U) **0613 for debut date of BTS **ARMY +J: The A is an inverted V for the member V, R+M for the member RM, Y for Yoongi (Suga), J above M is for the 4 members that begin with J...(Jin, J-Hope, Jimin/JM, and Jk) **Crown 👑 symbolizing the group being kings of Kpop. **squiggly smiley face i think it has something to do with Nirvana. All of these are on his right hand. In his sleeve the ones I know about: **Tiger lily flower: birth flower over "please love me" **a microphone: for him being a vocalist. **all seeing eye: wisdom, knowledge **tiger **the word truth **his life model "I would rather die, then to live without passion" **bone hand in formation of rock n roll symbol. For he will do music till he gone. **3 black lines representing the SK national flag and the area he is from. **sleeve is filled in with what looks to be water/clouds. **the Korean Characters that together mean "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life " it represents the album that changed their lives. These are just the ones I recall. He just started wearing things that show them; but he is very careful because tattoos are still taboo or associated with questionable characters. However every taboo has a special meaning and memory for him and maps out his life. All of his tattoos and piercings are all on his right side (with the exception of his left ear being peirced) There are some theories that state he may have done that on purpose in order to represent his duality (on stage personality vs. Off stage personality.) I think he is beautiful with all his tattoos and his piercings. It is great to watch him becoming secure in himself and confident enough to start sharing views/pictures. I know that it is extremely possible that I have missed some tattoos or meanings. This is just what I can recall.
I think they became popular because they share so much contents with there fans. I first found out about them in 2020. I started out by just wanting to know there names. But found soo much more. I love there personalities and all what they stand for. And admire them for holding on since 2013 when they debuted. one thing I also love is that they are making there one stuff on the side line of bts.

im a fan since 2013, maybe even since their predebut and let me tell you, i never expected them to reach these heights. their growth is something ive witnessed since day one and even though i follow them at the sidelines now (dont follow that often, i follow them by my own pace), the pride i feel when i see these photoshoots is just indescribable. love them so much
there's a photo of tae from this shoot that's been my home screen wallpaper since he posted it on twitter bc everything about it is just..perfect.. he's laying on the ground w his face toward the camera, one arm flat on the ground parallel to the bottom of the photo, other hand by his face, torso up in the air, one leg pointing up towards the corner of the photo, and the other bent w his foot at the other leg's knee. (this is more difficult to describe than i anticipated but i hope you look for it bc there's something captivating about the lines) my lock screen changes a lot but i can't seem to get away from that one photo
NO! Any other group could not have done this...BTS is the only, ONLY group that does what they do. BTS has done more for education, mental health, and philanthropy than any other artist, western or otherwise. Their messages, their humility, their generosity, their intelligence has incorporated something in fans no other artist has done ever before. NO other group could have done this! NONE!
I'll be honest...much of BTS' success is actually thanks to Armys all over the world. Yes, they are REALLY talented and very outstanding individuals but it's the bond they made with their fans that solidified the Armys dedication to BTS (and vice versa).

They all take great pictures but for me, j-hope's shots feel like a fashion model and not just a good picture of an attractive celeb. His roots are in street dance (hip hop styles mostly) so he's great at freestyling and is really aware of every part of his body. There's a lot of movement in his shots. Another fun thing about that shoot is that they picked their own fits!
Back in 2014 i was so frustrated because i KNEW and believed that if they were given the Platform they deserved the whole World would love them. I thought they were different from other groups and i just wanted to find a way to have their music Heard so their success was surprising because no one helped, they didn't have the influential keys to get there but they Always deserved it imo I love the energy of this shoot like it was all about movement they ate. hellooooo! quite enjoyed your reactions! just from watching kdramas (i live in the States), oversized, swimming in 'em clothes seem to be big there; also, the asymmetrical look of jackets is one i have noticed the actors (male & female), wearing. it is seriously amazing how strikingly handsome & body aware each member of BTS is.
I'm so surprised. From being boys in school, who figured out that if they prepared themselves, that they would be ready if the moment, if the moment comes along. Working 12 to 16 hours a day. Not seeing their parents months on end. They were smart enough to figure that out to be prepared. A group that didn't have money to eat to. That Suga tells the story of when he had $2.00 and he had to decide if he would eat or take the bus that day. Doing a verbal exercising on getting your feelings out, Jin is screaming for a steak becuz he hadn't eating meat in a long while. Having to hand out flyers on the streets for their free concert. They worked hard for this, where other groups were having opportunities given to them. Spaces being created on Variety shows for them to succeed. Now, other groups are trying steal BTS' coming up story even though other groups came from a BIG companies, who have all the breaks. Also; So many are just trying to be BTS instead of finding who they are as a group. Sorry to go off, but this is what is happening and has happened.

As a side note, not any group could do what they've done. There's a reason no one has done it but them. The Big 3 have spent a lot of time and money trying to manufacture the "next BTS" and no one has come close. There once-in-a-generation artists. And if they hadn't done it, no other group would have. It's not like it was inevitable that a k-group would become the top artist in the world (literally--they outsold literally every other artist on the planet last year) and if it wasn't BTS it would be someone else. That's not how it works. There's no one magic spot that some lucky group got to fill and it was them. They are special. I don't think you had a negative intention when you said that but I'm just putting it out there. They're different and they deserve what they've built. On another note, HYBE (formerly BigHit Entertainment) is bigger than the Big 3 combined and they did it without turning their artists into indentured servants or choking out small labels, and they're so big they now run not just Seventeen, Nuest, etcs' labels, but artists like Justin Beiber, J Balvin, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and many many more are under HYBE too.

I was a fan in 2015 and I can tellll you about their rise and why it was THEM. I was a exo fan at the time but switched over to BTS bc of what they were doing . I don’t wanna seem like I’m trashing exo but like , some might say why weren’t they big and instead bts became bigger than them and all of kpop combined??
I remember bts started releasing super iconic shit , like BST, HYYH albums, short films, the over the top mma + MAMA performances (2016 is when the big budget came. They spent a lot of money on their performances during this time . They went all out . Look at MAMA 2016 with jungkook floating in the air with the lighting in the back, the jihope dance duo, FIRE and BST with the extra choreo with 100s of dancers at the end
(they did extra shit they didn’t even have to do like WINGS short films and theories. They had the best choreo in the industry, they had extra shit like (SBS dance practice, intro performance trailer etc)
Not only was the music giving us bops (HYYH and lys series was fucking insane.) THEY Gave us whole FILMS and fans theorized and did all that shit with the storyline...they also gave us LOOKS (BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS AGAIN!) and A shit on of AMAZING performances. Mma 2016,2018,2019, 2021+ MAMA all proves that. And there’s more than that, but those huge ones have cemented them. Exo / other groups were not doing it like them , and nor are they doing it like them today in terms of performances and artistry. I have never seen a group do so much cool shit like they have , done and made all the right moves etc. the way bighit artistic team and ideas they had really helped bc some companies just don’t do stuff like that and do much much different thing. For example to use exo again, exo storyline as a group is much more ...unreal as in they use fantastical concepts as a group (exo are aliens from another planet idk the whole story but it’s more along those lines) whereas bts storyline is fictional it still is real in the sense of hyyh it deals with subjects like mental health / domestic abuse, in their music videos and story line etc. the WINGS storyline was not as “real life” but it was much more something that was really cool with the concepts of heaven and hell / temptation etc) . I think the type of route bts went is much cooler and more attractive . I mean to ME in 2016 and now I thought bts whole concept was much cooler and interesting and I think some people don’t like the the fantastical concepts of being aliens / vampires (enhyphen for example...not my thing...)
In my opinion as an exo enjoyer but not really a Stan I can say that they did not give us those same things and can be contributed to why they didn’t get as big as they did . Not saying they don’t have bops too (they def do!!! I’m not saying they suck at all ) but their creative team and SM just didn’t do it right with promoting or releasing the right shit , bts got it right and were around at the RIGHT time. Time plays a factor and at the time bts was doing what nobody else did. From experiencing all their content since 2015 it’s been sooo insane and they always try to top their shit ESP with performances (ptd in LA for exmaple , black swan + bst + fake love was insane)
Other factors that contribute to their success besides their music and performances is their underdog story (which is true , they were not set up to be that group that conquered everything...big 3 groups has already been trying to be pushed in the west before them but it never stuck...bts had never TRIED to purposely become appealing to the USA , the fans loved what they did and then their success in the USA and the world followed) . Another factor is that their different characters / personalities along with their work ethic and love they have for eachother. The member all have a great relationship with eachother and it’s really wholesome to see . People like to see people who are happy around eachother...I always felt with exo (and I only mention exo bc I was a fan of them too, I haven’t been much of a fan of other boy group groups) some of the members were boring / lacked chemistry with eachother. I don’t think that’s the most IMPORTANT thing but I noticed a difference with bts and their chemistry on and off stage compared with exo. That’s another reason why I liked them more too.
This is just my two cents...bts made it before anybody else bc of these reasons: the right time, the music, the amazing performances, the choreo, the artistic appeal (art films + story line), the chemistry, the stage presence, the bond, the story , all the content they release.

you've said exactly what I feel. I knew KPOP since 2009, but I've always just been a casual listener. I knew BTS from the start cos I saw them on a music show, and although I didn't become an ARMY until 2015, even from the start, their energy was just different. And not to put down other groups, but about the performances, it's so true. Honestly, when I watched those year end award shows and festivals, a lot of the performances just like any other daily music shows. But BTS always outdid themselves with the choreo, planning, music rearrangements and etc even when they didn't have big budgets. I also like that I can feel their sincerity and passion, not only in performing, but like you said, their chemistry off-stage

Yeahhh . As an international audience, i first knew them by their content like bangtan bomb + sub. Their company giving so much content with subtitle is what caught me good. And this just make their connection with fans easier, people can get to know them better without waiting some fan account editing the subtitle. I remember the good ol day life update/bts journal with each member self talk. Its like we grow up together 😭😂😂

I have been a fan since 2015, I had that feeling like many others had they were going to be big and thinking that bts was underrated(and still is cuz they deserve so much more beyond the kpop label), not only that but since forever they have been so hard working, I was not really active fan as today and also used to see how other groups were, but bts are different they have a team work that you ain't ever gonna see in any other group, they are effortless funny, their friendship are really something else, the care in everything also namjoon leadership is beyond amazing, everything their talent, hard work, charisma, family like, everything leaded to their success and no one can copy that, they can try but ain't gonna be like this, Kpop groups are trying so hard to copy their success but ain't happenning cuz things like this only happen once in a life time. they're unique, and more than anything else their music is just fire! These are just the ones I recall. He just started wearing things that show them; but he is very careful because tattoos are still taboo or associated with questionable characters. However every taboo has a special meaning and memory for him and maps out his life.
All of his tattoos and piercings are all on his right side (with the exception of his left ear being peirced) There are some theories that state he may have done that on purpose in order to represent his duality (on stage personality vs. Off stage personality.) I think he is beautiful with all his tattoos and his piercings. It is great to watch him becoming secure in himself and confident enough to start sharing views/pictures.

I think they became popular because they share so much contents with there fans. I first found out about them in 2020. I started out by just wanting to know there names. But found soo much more. I love there personalities and all what they stand for. They all take great pictures but for me, j-hope's shots feel like a fashion model and not just a good picture of an attractive celeb. His roots are in street dance (hip hop styles mostly) so he's great at freestyling and is really aware of every part of his body. There's a lot of movement in his shots. Another fun thing about that shoot is that they picked their own fits!

I'm so surprised. From being boys in school, who figured out that if they prepared themselves, that they would be ready if the moment, if the moment comes along. Working 12 to 16 hours a day. Not seeing their parents months on end. They were smart enough to figure that out to be prepared. A group that didn't have money to eat to. That Suga tells the story of when he had $2.00 and he had to decide if he would eat or take the bus that day. Doing a verbal exercising on getting your feelings out, Jin is screaming for a steak becuz he hadn't eating meat in a long while. Having to hand out flyers on the streets for their free concert. They worked hard for this, where other groups were having opportunities given to them. Spaces being created on Variety shows for them to succeed. Now, other groups are trying steal BTS' coming up story even though other groups came from a BIG companies, who have all the breaks. Also; So many are just trying to be BTS instead of finding who they are as a group. Sorry to go off, but this is what is happening and has happened.
