LOVE the way Yo-Yo stands in reverence to the music at about the 23:12 minute mark . . . he is a MASTER communicator, too, in that he leads the young musicians to find their OWN way through their interpretation rather than through his . . . he knows that this is the secret to finding one's own musical voice . . . this is a MASTER collaborating with younger masters - really - Jiyoung and Michael are SUPERB musicians and will be even GREATER masters in their own right, as they grow in musicianship.
There is a missing part from this masterclass that I've been wanting to rewatch for years. It is a shame it hasn't been uploaded. There were 3 pieces that day. Available online there is only Elgar and the Barber. Please upload the other one! I watched it live, and not only was it entertaining but it had some fantastic info which I am currently in need of revisiting. Thank you.
He’s really an incredible teacher. It’s almost a shame he is as great a player as he is because not all great players of the teaching touch that he does and his insane schedule I’m sure doesn’t allow him to teach as much as he’d like to.
I think the narrator is a man in his 50s - still vital, perhaps just after the leak of his powers - who has lost his son in World War I and is struggling to find a reason to go on, but desperately wants the world to remember his son, who he thinks was a noble, kind, and courageous young man.
