Pretty much anytime Lou is playing live is incredible, I'm endlessly fascinated by his wacky chord style playing to a band that sounds like Dino. It's perfection 🥰
I once had a dream where I was at a music festival in Western Mass hosted by J Mascis. The top billed acts were The Drive-By Truckers with special guest Kurt Vile, and The War on Drugs with special guest Jason Isbell. It was a pristine sunny summer day and the festival was held in a remote location full of lush green hills, surrounded by woods and low mountains. J was just milling around in the crowd and no one was bothering him. I woke up before anyone took the stage.
I was there that night and it was beyond magical. Of course there will be a temptation to watch J and Jason's guitar fireworks and focus on that (the interplay was mesmerizing), but Jason's SINGING is incredible -- nobody does Neil very well except Neil himself but boy did Jason ever give it a go. So glad I caught this.
Watching this makes me appreciate Crazy Horse even more!! They always make it look easy & its not! Props to Isbell & DJ for giving it a live, loose go!
Unreal. J has been my idol for over 30 years. Jason has been blowing my mind since DBT in 2003. Seeing them together is something I would have never dreamed. I got to see my other hero, Jay Farrar, open for Jason a few years ago, now J and Jason together...holy shit!
And this is Jason's second show of the night. I saw/heard him play acoustic guitar with the Punch Brothers at the Audible Theater from 7-8:45 PM, for their new show, the Energy Curfew Music Hour. They played Lovely Rita as an encore. Video is up on YT at the moment.
Same here man. I got to see my other hero, Jay Farrar, open for Jason a few years ago. Awesome to see my favorite players/songwriters together on the same stage. Such an eclectic bunch...Jason, J, and Jay haha.
What an incredible early Christmas present. One of my favorite musicians playing with one of the greatest bands of all time! Thank you to whomever filmed this.
Lord how I miss looking at backlines like that!! REAL VOLUME off the stage instead of mixed into sachrine through a PA!! Give me decibles and warm tube amp sound!!!! Nothing like Humbuckers plaing through JCM 100s and 4x12" cabinets.
Wow! completely forgot about how much i like this band. "Without a Sound" is such a great album from a band with a very unique sound. Just added whole album to my favorite bike riding playlist. The band sounds GREAT man! thanks for posting this.
i really like that at the very end, as soon as the song ends, the first thing you can see is jason looking over at mascis and saying "thank you, thank you" for inviting him onstage.
J never made any secret of his affection for Neil Young. Certainly influenced his guitar and vocal sound and dissonance. Such a natural cover for both of these guys. And, awesome!
Rising? He was a session musician at world famous Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals as a teenager before he joined DBT. The man has been amazing for years.
My daughetr was at this show and sent me a message telling me they brought Isbell on. I didn't know this was the song they played until she posted a clip on IG.
@@colegodwin9720 to be fair, at this point so is Jason. I’m more of an Ear Bleeding kinda guy than a Country guy, but Isbell is great. And you kinda have to be a legend to get invited to go toe to toe with J like that. Most everyone that Dino brings on for these anniversaries are legends: Kim Deal Kim Gordon Kevin Shields Frank Black Bob Mould Warren Haynes Al Cisneros Dale Crover Issac Brock Johnny Marr Tommy Stinson Henry Rollins Mike Watt Jeff Tweedy… These are heavy hitters.
As a lover of alternative music I bhought Bubble And Scrappe there by 1993 album of Lou band Sebadoh. I did not know back then that he is a menber of D Jr. I like this vídeo
Had the privilege of seeing Dinosaur Jr September 2022 in Toronto such a great live act! One of my all time favourite bands And probably my favourite Neil Young song.
Jason is my favorite currently active artist, a true triple threat singer/songwriter/guitarist. But I gotta say, J Mascis does a better Neil Young solo!
2 Marshall stacks turned up and used in such a small venue is BS. A sound mans nightmare. I know. I’m half deaf from 30 years of the same stupidity. 🙄👎
Yeah, it's cool to see your favorite musicians play note-for-note covers of your favorite songs, but it's even cooler to see your favorite musicians put their own spin on your favorite sings. At least in my opinion.
How have I gone 12months not hearing 2 of my favourite musicians playing one of my favourite songs???! Murph and Lou killing it too.. fcuking awesome!!!!!
Can we just pause for a moment to note how fucking amazing Lou Barlow's bass playing is, in this?
We saw them at a festival this summer. Amazing bass player. You can't stop watching this guy.
Wow that is beautiful. I saw Dinosaur Jr. here a few years ago.
Pretty much anytime Lou is playing live is incredible, I'm endlessly fascinated by his wacky chord style playing to a band that sounds like Dino. It's perfection 🥰
He’s amazing almost always, but he is certainly f’ing amazing during this cover/tribute.
Yes. I was up close for the 12/3 show. Normally I watch J but DAMN!! Lou was on fire this whole week in Brooklyn.
Come on! Dinosaur Jr and Jason Isbell covering Cortez the Killer?! How can it better than this?!!!
RIGHT!?!?!? I about had a stroke when I saw this pop up!!!
cant bro!!
ghost of Pedro-Crazy Horse??
What a night to be there. Neil Young will be proud to have his classic kick ass all over again on stage with these two giant talents.
I seen Dinosaur Jr open for Neil back in the early 90's. This kicks ass
I highly regret not going to this show! Huge Dinosaur Jr fan, even bigger fan of Isbell. Never thought this collaboration would ever happen!!!
Right? Though both shaped much of my 2023 soundtrack they aren't a pair that you'd expect
Jesus this is a collab made for me. And Cortez the Killer 🤤
There were a few real surprise appearances during this residency. The night I went, Warren Haynes came out.
A righteous jamation. The resplendent joy of getting your Marshalls up to volume.
What a natural combo!! How a guitar is meant to sound. That Jason dude may have a future.
You know Jason Isbell is one of the most popular Americana / Country artists alive today right?
@@Rlyhyne Oh yeah, been a follower since the Drive By Trucker days. You can tell that he's having a ball!

J's playing with EVERYONE lately and it's a joy to hear/see 🙌
Thank you for recording this entire thing. Its so bad ass 🤟🏻
Built To Spill has a 20+ minute live version that is off the charts too. Look it up.
It's gorgeous .. In fact the whole album is
Jay n Jason jamming in front big stack of Marshalls😊 doesn't get any better than that. Cheers for sharing!

lucky bastard
What night was this? I was there the second night with Warren Haines. THIS would have been transcendent…
@@nrmcclung Weds 12/6
His voice is killer
This is freaking awesome,I think Neil would be happy and proud to have this out there in the ether.
2 of my favorites covering another favorite
Watching this makes me appreciate Crazy Horse even more!! They always make it look easy & its not! Props to Isbell & DJ for giving it a live, loose go!
Had the pleasure of seeing Jason Isbell concert in September of this year. Best concert I’ve been too.
Unreal. J has been my idol for over 30 years. Jason has been blowing my mind since DBT in 2003. Seeing them together is something I would have never dreamed.

They should play together all the time. I love it.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. Thank you for this!
You bet!
Thanks for posting, this is awesome. Just listened to a Kurt Vile & Dinosaur Jr version earlier today.
F#&k yes ….these two are such a good fit …MERRY CHRISTMAS YALL
Well now. Here’s the crossover I didn’t know I needed but feel fortunate to have found.
These are literally two of my favorite artists. What in the holy hell? I am concerned for Jason's ears because J. plays SO LOUD!
No kidding. Marshall should be paying for a sponsorship.

Hey, this Isbell guy is alright.
😂 Yeah, he's got a bright future ahead of him...
That is an all-time great performance, a definitive live cover, amazing!
Thanks so much for filming this. What talents here.
Thank you ❤
I was there. It was well worth the travel from Canada.
Hell. Yes. Thank you
I'd like to be at every Dinosaur Jr. show
This is incredible on so many levels. Thank you for sharing this
Glad you enjoyed it!

First Warren Haynes, then Jason isbell...😍
3:43 love it! Thx for posting. Jason drops out to tune his guitar singing right through it
This. How the? Which part is more done subconsciously, the tuning or the singing a verse?
yes to all of this.
i really like that at the very end, as soon as the song ends, the first thing you can see is jason looking over at mascis and saying "thank you, thank you" for inviting him onstage.
Holy fuck! This is amazing! One of my favorite Neil Young songs. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I’m glad they mic’d the amps. May not have been able to hear without it 😬🤟🏻🎸🔥
Thanks for this. What a collab!
J never made any secret of his affection for Neil Young. Certainly influenced his guitar and vocal sound and dissonance. Such a natural cover for both of these guys. And, awesome!
Damn!!!
That’s all I can articulate right now - just “Damn!”
Thank you for posting!
such a rock-solid rhythm section.
Most ambitious crossover event of our time.
Isbell is incredibly eclectic. My kind of musician
Freaking awesome amazing 🎉
Sooo, sooo good
Peak Jason guitar god mode - he has been rising as a player for a long while but he’s more than at his destination now - come back to Australia man
Rising? He was a session musician at world famous Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals as a teenager before he joined DBT. The man has been amazing for years.
Hope Jason had his plugs in!
Trading off on solos. Both with killer tone. Especially J's Epic!
Wow!
This is as great as it was loud.
yet another great version of this song. Check out Grace Potters version from way back!

Grace's version with Joe Satriani is simply smoking
Doing right by Uncle Neil!
This is fantastic !
My daughetr was at this show and sent me a message telling me they brought Isbell on. I didn't know this was the song they played until she posted a clip on IG.
How are her ears?
That's some serious tone!
Dinosaur Jr, Bad ass band Don't get enough credit and they already get alot
Let Jason cook.

Badass
J got old n grey like me.. will b playing cortez out wed night!!
Haha J doesn’t even seem to bother playing his own cortez inspired Alone anymore, as long as he can solo over em-d-am he’s perfectly happy!
outstanding mother f er band
Great. Neil Young is cool
Theres no way J Mascis doesn't have tinnitus by now.
Holy shit...
Ear bleeding country indeed
Great footage!

Do you have the MBV cover? Would be amazing to hear.
Sorry! Didn’t get that one.
Pretty cool. Ain't no bts 20+ min version. But still. Cool
I sure hope Sam watches this.
Wawawewa
Drax on Drums! Who knew?
Yeah this is great, but have you heard Doug Martsch sing this song?❤
June 12th or December 6th?
December 6th
Isbell doesn’t feel comfortable with the loudness. He feels the pain in his eardrums
This video just looks loud.
Le son de j mascis 🤩 l'autre j'aime moins
2 Marshall stacks turned up and used in such a small venue is BS. A sound mans nightmare. I know. I’m half deaf from 30 years of the same stupidity. 🙄👎
J misses the whole essence of the solo.
Like hell he does
J is gonna J and play it his own way, as he’s earned the right to after playing live for 40+ years! 💜🤟🎸
I was thinking just the opposite. He put the J tone on it, making it still Neil Young's but also his.
Yeah, it's cool to see your favorite musicians play note-for-note covers of your favorite songs, but it's even cooler to see your favorite musicians put their own spin on your favorite sings. At least in my opinion.

If Neil sees this he'll be in for sure
