The statistic I heard is ~50% of American Jews who make Aliyah don't remain. It's not easy for those who have a choice, whose native tongue is English who don't quite have the right stuff to tough it out for whatever reason. No one should judge, especially the other ~50% of American Jews who are able to stay and get to make Israel their permanent home. It's both a right and a privilege for all Jews everywhere to come but not every Jew sees it as an irrevocable duty. I also am from southern California, home to a quarter million secular Israeli Sabras of whom many think I was nuts in 2012 when I finally made Aliyah by myself at age 53. I'll be 65 in July. My American wife who I met in Jerusalem snd married in Cyprus in 2013 lasted 6 years before she couldn't stand both me and living in Israel anymore. But, I remain and always will no matter what and I know this about me. It's not a virtue but more like Israel and the Israeli Jews got under my skin. I just want to become Israeli and it's still quite the process for me, especially without family but I feel blessed just to be able to genuinely call Israel home when before Aliyah, I never felt at home in the US even though I was born there in 1959.
It’s interesting to see Israelis discussing leaving and Jews abroad wanting to move to Israel at this time. Especially with all the hate. No matter where you end up, plant your Jewish flag strong and have big beautiful Jewish families!
I'm sorry, but I don't understand and can't relate. I myself am making preparations to make aliyah, but I'm just jumping in. Israel is a place of freedom for me, and my country over there can use my service. I served the US federal government for 6 years, now I want to go to Israel and serve my country there and make Israel my permanent home.
Some people and myself included have had to leave things i passionately love, Eretz Yisrael being a major one. Sometimes to get closer too something you love you must be pulled back just like a bow and arrow that pulls away from the target temporarily in order to reach the target. I also believe in a more mystical way that there is a parallel with being religous and non religous at different stages of life and/or lifetimes.

Yashar koach!!! It's very hard. Israel is not an easy place. You are welcome to come visit us in the shomron and explore Israel beyond Jerusalem!
