  • We start this episode still at Bulloo River in Quilpie where we head out to watch sunset at Baldy Top Lookout. We are so glad we headed out sunset was amazing and the rock formations were impressive as well. Next morning we head off for Eromanga but before we do we visit a catholic church in town to see the Opal Alterand then we took the kids to fossick for Opal. We had no idea what you looked for and a couple came along who said they had no idea either. Awhile later I noticed them filling a bag up and I said geez you are getting a few and the bloke ended up showing us what to look for, mmm didn't know my arse. The boys were ecstatic to finally find a bit with Opal in it. We then headed to Eromanga to see Cooper the Dinosaur. 🦕 We had booked a tour for the afternoon we arrived in town and we weren't disappointed by our visit. Our Guide Shawnee was fantastic she knew so much about Dinosaurs and Mega Fauna. Our tour started in the Visitor Centre where we met Shawnee she then took us to the main exhibition area to see 2 replica legs of Coopers and was told how and where he was discovered. Shawnee told us about life when Dinosaurs lived what they ate and how the world looked then. We then got to see lots of Dinosaur bones and fossils and watched as one Dinosaur leg bone was slowly being revealed as a Volunteer painstakingly chipped away the mud that had buried the body a million years ago. Every year for two weeks archaeologists excavate bones from an area by placing a mould around the fossil or bone with all the rock or mud still holding it together and taken back to Eromanga where it can then takes 10 years for those bones to be completely excavated and and cleaned. The last part of the tour was to enter an environmentally controlled room that houses the bones of Cooper the Dinosaur. We could then wander around and look at all the exhibits. I got to touch a Million year old bone which was incredible to think how old it was. We then enjoyed visiting the Royal Hotel and enjoyed a fantastic night at the pub.Since visiting Eromanga an official release of studies about Cooper the Dinosaur and whether he is the biggest Dinosaur in Australia so far and his official name was released to the public. He is known as Australotitan cooperensis, or Australotitan for short, the basketball-court-length dinosaur’s remains were first found and excavated in the outback of Queensland in 2006 and 2007. The animal’s English name - “Southern Titan of the Cooper,” or Cooper - is a homage to the freshwater Cooper Creek close to where it was found. Scientists in Australia say Cooper is an entirely newly discovered species of long-necked titanosaur sauropod dinosaur that lived between 92 and 96 million years ago. Cooper grazed on plants, weighed about 70 tons, reached nearly 98 feet in length and stood as high as a two-story building. The next day we leave to camp at Cooper stopping along the way to see an old car and then collect firewood and stop for some lunch along Kyabra Creek. We finish the episode at our camp at Cooper Creek. Thanks for Watching.
