    Okay, from what I'm hearing is that the titanium violin sounds like it's radiating a colder, aloof, wintery tone with a warriors edginess that the traditional wooden violin doesn't have. The wooden violin is more emotive and much more vocal in it's sound that reminds me of springtime and also sounds much softer and expressive.
    Personally, for me, I would use the titanium violin for rock n' roll as well as Viking/tribal folk music because of it's tone and the way that it sounds. The wooden violin, however, can be used for more pop, country, and the more classical music genres because it is a traditional make of the instrument versus the more modern, yet ancient, edginess of the titanium violin.
    I would definitely like to see more covers used with the titanium violin just to give the covers a newer feel to the songs and set a different tone for them to bring some variety to the table.
    I hope you have a great day, and I can't wait to see what you've come up with in the future :D.

      Rob Landes Actually no I don't. I'm from a musical family, and my younger sister had played the violin when she was younger and plays around 12-14 different instruments. While, I had played the piano on and off for years, and recently started to learn the steel guitar while my dad plays a bass.
      Along with that, I listen to a lot of music that I can easily pick out the tones and pitches of the instruments in the background. So, I was able to do that with the violins too. I listen to a lot of classical and contemporary music too. So, that helps on top of that. Hehe, thanks for your response too. I hope that my comment was helpful for any future videos up here 😊👍.

      @jenniferchoate5600 6 років тому

      Nilly A I have played the piano by ear for about ...... 12 years, but I have recently started playing the lap Hawaiian steel guitar. It's similar to a ukulele, but it looks more like the top of an actual guitar and you have it across your lap while using finger picks and a steel bar to hold in your hand as you play.
      My sister played the violin from age 4 up until the sixth grade before she learned how to play the clarinet for the school band. She now plays the flute, acoustic and electric guitars, saxophone, trumpet, trambone, and she's wanting to learn how to play the tuba and piano too. If she were to play the violin again, it would have to be a Viola, a larger seized violin, because her arms are too long to hold a standard sized violin.

    The 'warmth' of the wood violin is apparent from my headset. It is weird to say as I always thought that was a fake term but the way that the wood sounds does actually seem to be a warmer note. Just wanted to comment as it may be apparent with all string instruments.

    • @heatherlowe7330
      @heatherlowe7330 3 роки тому

      Yes, the wood has a better emotional range, if that makes sense. I thought the titanium sounded okay, but it's like it lacks emotion. The titanium violin doesn't invite you in to listen. It is cold and distant.

    Sounds tinny to me. Musical but tinny.
    Sound aside, it's very crudely made: ragged edges, blobby welds, unsafe to handle. The color treatment may be appealing but I wouldnt think it a real concern for the serious musician.
    Most any good metalsmith with experience in working titanium sheet who has an appreciation for musical instruments could make you a dozen for about a grand each, probably less if ithe job was a competetive bid. Most everything could be cut from sheet on a CNC plasma cutter, shaped over a buck or on an English wheel, and NEATLY welded. The bridge, sound post, and nut could be made from rigid thermo-setting resin but which would have to be determined by trial. And the end product will be well-made and wouldn't cut you.
    $100K? Nonsense. That's what I'd charge a wealthy fool for something unusual and arty. Two years to make? What was he doing for the other 102 weeks?
    Which leads to speculation of the future merits of a violin made in other metals (bell bronze, magnesium), by 3D printing, rotary molding, etc. Violins, cellos, etc made from graphite composite have proven quite satisfactory and refinement might possibly make them acceptable in tbe concert hall before critical audiences.
    Back to the topic: the titanium violin: I'd call it not bad for a proof of concept. But even to my tin ears it's not ready for prime time. If I was to place a value on it, I'd suggest no more than the price you'd pay for an entry level violin, say $200 and much of that is its value as a curiosity and/or prototype to a succession of much improved instruments. Being welded titanium, it would be almost kid proof.

    • @vangoghsseveredear
      @vangoghsseveredear 4 роки тому +7

      Agreed. Im a welder and those are some horrendous welds. Titanium is really expensive and the welder has to know what he's doing, which looked like he didn't. Looks like he plasma cut the F holes, and not very well. To the layman maybe its fine... to a metalworker, I'd be a bit embarrassed

    • @jonathangarzon2798
      @jonathangarzon2798 3 роки тому

      @@jonathangarzon2798 "way off" how? I'd like to know what insights you'd have in the onsey-twosey production of musical instruments in non-traditional materials. I've made a very satisfactory acoustic guitar of fiberglass 50 years ago but nothing since. Two thirds of the build time was spent tweaking the final product (three tops, half dozen bracing arrangements, several bridge designs etc.)

      Not necessarily. Once you think about it, the wooden one is actually only around $1500 but different wooden violins different sounds. Some are mellow and some are sharper. it also depends on the maker, wood, and string and also a bit on the players part. So it kinda depends.

    coming from someone who doesnt know shit about music but just really appreciates the sound of violins, i feel like the titanium violin has a lighter sound, like as if a child was singing as opposed to a woman. the sound of the traditional violin seems more elegant and supple, while the titanium violin has a zing of energy and excitement that the traditional violin doesn’t really have. i’m definitely a fan of the titanium violin, it’s so unique i can’t help but appreciate it.

    The tonal quality of the titanium violin is like a special effect. It can be used for certain things to get an edgy metallic sound if that's what you want. In my opinion, the raw sound is unpleasant, lacking the overtones that make a good violin sound so rich and vibrant, but in one of the other videos, you have it processed and it sounds like an electric instrument with effects processing. You can decide whether its uniqueness is worth $100,000, but if you want it for performance, why not purchase a good electric violin for a few thousand dollars, that doesn't have the playing shortcomings (tearing your skin, certain techniques not possible), and build yourself an effects rig that includes a ring modulator, a flanger, and/or a multi-band harmonizer, all of which allow you to create the metallic edgy sounds.
    Then, I'm sure you must have one already, but there are brand new traditional violins that can be had for $25,000 or $30,000 that sound absolutely amazing and will only get better with age.

    To be honest, I think that the wooden violin sound better as when you play it there’s a “resonance” that makes it sound better, while the titanium violin is unique and has a sharp edge the sound gives off, it doesn’t really resonate like a brass instrument or the traditional violin do( I know it’s not supposed to be compared to a brass instrument but, that’s the only example I can think of)I really do think that you can probably have a nicer fuller sound on the traditional violin compared to the titanium violin.
    Still a cool violin!

    For playing rock/metal genres, the traditional wood violin sounds like you're having to put more effort into. However the wood violin definitely suites the classical genre more than the titanium one. The titanium one definitely suits contemporary music better; not just due to its natural timbre, but also built in functions such as the 6.5mm/0.25 inch output. If I had a spare $100k, because I do enjoy playing contemporary music I probably would pay it to own such a unique and one-off instrument.

    I really like how this sounds. It sounds way better than an aluminum violin. Aluminum sounds very hallow and empty like one is playing music out of a tin can. Brass violins sound a little less like that but are really loud and have too much resonance. This titanium one is the best I've heard of all the metal violins. The sound is more dampened yet still uniquely metallic sounding in its own way. For all around purposes though, a quality carbon fiber violin sounds better as it is more warm. A typical $100 dollar wooden violin generally has a very nasal tone and is somewhat hallow sounding. Generally, I think a higher quality carbon fiber violin will sound better than a $100 dollar wooden violin. A $400 to $500 wooden violin or higher price point will generally beat all of these. Though, I really do like the unique sound of the titanium violin.

  • @soneilienos668

    Both are quality violins, however the wooden one has a more open and clean sound. There’s less screeching and it’s just naturally louder. The titanium one sounds like it and the violinist are struggling to get the sound out. That’s the main reason violins are typically wood, when sound is passed through wood, the sound doubles and is projected. That’s why music boxes are made of wood, if not they wouldn’t make any sound. So naturally the wooden violin would sound better just because it’s made of that projecting wood instead of metal that absorbs sound.

    In space you can cold fuse metals of the same type and I have been wondering more and more lately if it could be possible at all to use a big vacuum chamber to cold fuse metals then maybe the titanium violin could be made without the sharp neck but the price of it would also go up a lot.

      or just grind the neck, I see no reason for that to be that jagged.

    The Titanium Violin needs to be perfected but it should be available to the masses. That violin isn't worth $100k if no one is going to continue developing Titanium violins but if someone were that violin being the first and proven proof of concept the price tag would be priceless.

    It depends what you want it for. It would be great for some contemporary music. It be great in a light show as long as you don't blind yourself with the reflections. But, I'd never want to hear traditional music on it. I'd also never spend 100k on an instrument, since it would take me approx. infinity years to earn that back with the instrument.

    I love sound of a wood one, but I think a titanium one very suit to rock music.

    The wooden one, of course, has a more classical and resonante noise, but the titanium violin is good for more pop or rock. I have a wooden one, and I, personally, like wooden better.

    I think it's worth it if it makes you happy and you have the money to buy it without bankrupting yourself. Looks like they could have cleaned up those welds a lot though.

    I like the wooden violin sound, it's cleaner and just more beautiful... The titanium on seems a bit too rough.

    In my opinion it's the way you play it, and the type of violin. Nothing just my opinion.

    You will probably never see this.. But it would be cool to see/hear the difference between a Wood Violin and the new Carbon Fiber ones.. like Luis and Clark.

    Great playing. I like the idea. But, 100K ? No way. I have a "Seven" titanium bicycle frame. I have had a few "litespeed" titanium bikes in the past. And the quality of weld beads on them is like a work of art. Gorgeous ropes of symmetrical dimes as they say. Not these dripping hippy candlestick wax looking welds. This was not done by a professional titanium welder. And I much prefer the color of brushed titanium than this burned finish. Why not an ebony fingerboard? I would be more interested in seeing a titanium back and sides fitted to a spruce top. Titanium has interesting acoustic properties. I have some titanium fine tuners on a violin. And I love titanium saddles and sustain block on a Stratocaster. Or titanium barrel saddles on a Telecaster. Anyhow, just my opinion for what little it is worth.

    For sure it's a beautiful, interesting instrument, but I wouldn't exchange my cheap, wooden violin for it. I just prefer the traditional sound :) I'm curious how the soul looks like? It's also made from titanium?
