I really, really, really dig into this char and her/his theme. It's something just amazing about Tarumi, I don't really care about her/his gender even anymore (should Tsukomugami have a genders anyway?), maybe it's about he is based on Matagama's - which I love, I even wanted to make an entire game based about this concept, that much interesting yet forgotten these little gem/beans are. Defietly my new favorite/best stage 5 boss from Ido.
I'm guessing female, as I did some research about the Tarumi and it seems like a feminine name... as well as the outfit is vaguely dress-like and it would just make more sense for Tarumi to be female, I guess.
Well, since this Touhou, Tarumi's definitely a female, unless they wanted to break the tradition. Also, I guess because she's based on the Magatama (which represents benevolence) and also a minister-cum-hero-turned-deity serving an Empress no less during the times of Ancient Nippon (like during the year 201-269), she was given a more "general of the old kingdoms" look. Which is rather male-centric, which reflects her rather stiff mannerism and soldier-ish posture, in contrast to Momohime's and Himemiko's flow-y princess designs. And that sharp bishonen eyes. xD Anyway, I digress. Tarumi's either a family name or a female name, so the later is more likely like what Wolfie said. And when she loses, she lifts her hat, and you can see that she has lashes like the other female casts. I can't help but think that despite being a Magatama tsukumogami, she's actually more of a terracotta soldier tsukumogami, like Hanie. They even fused during battle, giving her that Buster Arm-like armor xD
I must admit, Tarumi does look rather masculine. I also thought at first Tarumi's a dood. Then I realised it's touhou. TBH Tarumi's design would fit into Len'en so well
If Touhou is anime, This theme's the most perfect for the opening
Also, this would have been great for the final boss.
This is one of those themes that would be great for an anime intro
The midboss kill her (and half of Gensokyo, the Moon, the outside and Hell) with the snap of a finger.
No blips this time.
Part of this sounds like it would match near perfectly with The Last Comer's Stage 4 theme: Feast of Wicked Stars ~ Celestial Burst.

Wanwan's Jpop side tends to slip out every now and then
This char seems pretty badass to me.
... Is it a male or female anyway ?

well its a girl .... i thought it was boy O.o
When you see her in another pose (Exemple: With the giant metal hand) you can see she have a pigtail. But yes, her clothes look very masculine.

Maybe stupid question, but what is a Yamataizer?
I figure it rather has something to do with the Yamatai Kingdom.
