I love vintage car road rallies. The wife and I both have a Datsun rosters. I have a 69 2000 and she has a 67 1/2 1600. I can’t imagine driving down dirt roads at high elevation though . it sounds pretty awful. Closer to sea level is more my style. coastal roads are where these cars really shine.
Sounds like a rallye with a great vibe. Thanks for sharing it! Reminds me of when I did a fun rallye in the UK. I was navigator and I'd no idea where we were. But it was so much fun and I saw so many things a normal tourist wouldn't.
Nice trip looks like a lot of fun just can’t wait to test drive the Datsun I was a Datsun guy starting in the 80s 90s then life happen but now after 30 years got a Datsun Roadster lol I do remember driving my Datsun Pu from Oregon to Florida and when I got to Arizona The pu overheatd and I pulled over in the middle of nowhere lol removed the thermostat and made a gasket out of a cardboard box no thermostat and drove to the next big city after that my front wheel bearing got so hot, and that was in Louisiana and the final destination was Hollywood FL big trip but fun
You did it! That's awesome. Sounds like the Datsun hung in there like a champ with the Porsches, etc. Pretty good for a car that was dead for so long and that we watched you resurrect in your garage. You are a beast for making that journey without a top.
That's so rad! I had never heard this rally before. Another bucket list item added. Good to see your datsun held up so well. Did you ever trace your overheating issue?
I'm still investigating. I presume there was an air pocket in the head somewhere. I found a few other things that I'll cover in a future video as well.
You had over heating issues but I thought I saw an aluminum radiator installed in your roadster? It does not keep your car cool? What about a radiator fan?
Check out the overcrest podcast at their website - overcrestproductions.com and they announce when the application process starts. No requirements other than an entry fee and the desire to drive. A lot.
@@beniwasa The registration cost for 2 people was about $550. Then add in the lodging, some food, fuel, and misc. stuff and it gets to around $1k. Still a pretty epic trip, and managing costs is pretty easy - camping is cheap, DIY sandwiches and stuff are cheap.

yes, it wasn't the ideal car for the trip - but we had a great time in the car and it survived, which made it all worth it.
Nice! We have a white datsun 2000 1969 and they are a blast!

They really did make some great cars during that time.

I just installed the same big break kit you did. What offset wheel did you get?
I don't remember off hand, but VTO knew exactly what I needed and got me the right wheels!

I think the issues were a lack of a shroud and ducting, a really old head gasket, and a warm day climbing a pass at 7k feet on gravel.
That looks awesome! How would I get into something like that? What are the requirements?

@@ThrottleGrotto i hate to ask but is this rally expensive? I want to tamp my expectations on doing something like this if it is to expensive for me.
