I discovered this game a few years ago, when I was aimlessly scrolling down the Steam store page for like half an hour. I was bored and not really interested in any game at the time. When I saw this one I thought it looked interesting and bought it, but didn't expect much from some random indie game that I found while digging deep in the store out of boredom... Today I have about 1300 hours into Battle Brothers and can safely say that it is my favorite game ever. I even bought every DLC and dev support pack (which says a lot, since I am a greedy ahole). Feels great to see this gem being discovered by other people!
This game is INSANELY under appreciated by the gaming community. Probably the best game i've ever played. I found it like you did and didn't know i was gonna fall in love.
I stumbled over it and found the static images and such a bit boring... then I decided for the hell of it to watch a youtube vid... and I was hooked at the bandit-battle theme during the first fight!
Yeah, it doesn't look like much at first, but that first time one of my bros hit a Bandit and messed him up big time I was hooked. How they made little Russian doll chess pieces look like they've just been beat the hell up, broken noses, missing teeth, black eyes etc is beyond me but it works.

As of this video coming out i have 473.3 hours in this game, and i look forward to our insightful amphibious friend experiencing the joy of triumph, and pain of defeat only this game can bring. EDIT:Also to anybody new to this game or who buys it because of AA, getting spears and cheaper armor early on really helps, the accuracy bonus of spears makes fairly garbage brothers into somewhat competent combatants until they can level up a bit or be replaced by a better brother. It's still highly likely they'll be killed if you get unlucky or misplay, but the added accuracy increases the likelihood of them dealing damage that can save other brothers down the line.

Glad you've found the best turn-based strategy game that exists. 2 recommendations, 1 if you have a brother with 3 stars in melee defence, keep them alive and focus on turning them into a tank. 2 any brothers that you like, always give them the Student perk on their first level up.
First of all let me congratulate you on the video quality! And I mean you, not the vid itself. The way you talk, I can't recall a youtube VOD of BB being as entertaining as you made it! Congratulations! I won't criticize your combat choices and strategies since making mistakes is part of the fun and I don't really like backseating. I usually get that on my archers and hammer/mace 2handers. Note that diff weapons cause diff wounds. And blunt weapons are the absolute god-tier wounds like concussions or broken elbows, while bows pierce and swords slash. - Student is the greedy choice. It's absolutely incredible. so freaking happy you finally found this game!! such an unbelieveable game and once you get the hang of it get the DLC, the extra options are phenomenal as well as the variety in opponents
Quick summary of weapons and tactics, will probably miss something. Axes break shields, Maces stun enemies, Swords get to counter attack, Spears can defend a square automatically attacking anyone that tries to pass, Flails avoid shields, Cleavers get to decapitate enemies. The two handed weapons and polearms have different special strikes that can push, pull, break shields or attack multiple opponents. Bows are usefull against lightly armoured oponents and get an extra attack, crossbows are good against heavily armoured oponents but takes an attack to reload. You should have at least two, possibly three good ranged units to be able to snipe Necromancers, Undead priests, Goblin Shaman and other special units that can change the tides of battles. Spears are good for the beginning, but ideally go for axes and maces and have at least one headhunter specialize in cleavers. Another option is to give your frontline men maces and shields and have your second line with polearms men with long axes to break shields. Though bowmen can be useful in the early game, it's much better to invest in crossbowmen instead, since mid to late game bowmen will be completely useless.
Hard disagree on a couple points. But generally sound advice! 1. Ranged units etc etc and you cite Undead Priests. They're immune to arrows, the best you could do is break their necklaces. The others, top notch advice. 2. why one headhunter spec'd into cleavers? By headhunter I assume you meant a duelist (as in the build, not the perk). I'd say don't specialize him at all and save the perk. When you get the GG weapon, you spec into int. Otherwise gambling for a +Dmg Orc Cleaver is a low chance of paying off, where you could find an OP mace for example and deal both more dmg than the cleaver (because armor effectiveness), plus get better injuries AND be useful against undead on top of it all! 3. Archers are amazing late game. War Bows pierce enough that, with Crippling Strikes, an injury is a practically a given. You can kill one enemy with an xbow per turn, sure, but you can disable two (plus morale checks) with bows. And with Berserk, possibly three.
@@abhuyllongfellow4233 thanks for taking the time to explain some of the minutia. Maybe that's why I had so much trouble late game lol. I did have a brawler with the head hunter perk specialized in cleavers wielding that double handed cleaver from the undead that would decapitate anything that came close to him possibly my favourite character ever.
@@dacedebeer2697 No need to thank me mate! :) If you had/are having problems with lategame, just tell me which 2 enemy groups are giving you the most trouble and I'd be happy to try to give you some pointers! By the way the Headhunter perk is lest say.... underwhelming. If you hit someone in the head they'll either be dead or severely injured, let's be honest. Also you only have baseline 25% chance to hit head to begin with. THEN you get a "guaranteed hit in the head". But the game doesn't tell you that you can miss this attack. It's a hit in the head IF it connects, which may be a problem. AND it only works for hits on the same enemy iirc so you can't farm a hit on a goblin and hit another. (dunno if patched, haven't tested). Also, assuming you have Warrior of The North DLC, you get access to the Ice Cave. Trying not to spoil much in case you haven't seen it. But you get a guaranteed 2Handed Cleaver + an amazing armor set. If you loved your 2H Cleaver Brother, then this gear is what you always dreamt of, trust me. ^_~ Also also, beware of undead gear in general. I can guarantee your Brother used to hit things twice and had to Recover or rest for a couple turns lol Finally, assuming for whatever reason you really really reeeeeeeally want the Headhunter, try to farm an Assassin or Killer on The Run. They have +% to hit head as a background bonus, allowing you to score the 1st headshot a little bit easier. That said, they work great with Famed Three Headed Flails (might be hard to come by unmodded) easily hitting 50% head chance.
Hey, you can totally swap targets with headhunter, it isn't bound to the first headhit, I love using flails to guarantee a headhit, aging to an axe (which has 50% extra head hit damage) to crush skulls
I was a little weary of buying this, like a lot of other people, but it’s extremely addicting very satisfying gameplay and literal depth. Just remember to pace yourself because its easy to get burnt out
On recruiting : don't recruit fodder. Beggars and such are rarely worth it. I've had some bad-ass gravediggers in the past, but you have to play the beginning thinking endgame, don't have bums soaking up your early game XP just to get killed. You should strive not to lose anyone ever. Brawlers, Millers and Farmers in the beginning are the best you can do, then go for people with actual combat experience. They cost more but mid game if you're careful you'll have the finances to pay them. Not really ever worth it to get nobles or hedge knights, your early game guys will probably become as good as any of those and much cheaper. Don't swell your ranks too quickly either, pace yourself in a way you can equip everyone. You can have an amazing company with mostly farmers if you keep them alive long enough.
My full 12 man force usually is 3 crossbows with sword sidearm, 5 spearman with shields, 2 swordsman with shields, 1 long handled axeman, and the bannerman with reserved sword and shield
As everyone else is saying, I have quite a bit of hours in Battle Brothers and absolutely love it. Can't recommend it enough to people who like strategy.
Yooo nice to see you discover this gem! I grinded many hours on this game and spent times yelling and screeching as a bandit with a stick killed my high tier spearman.
AA I am very glad that you are doing this game so I welcome you to a world of maddening pain, frustration and overwhelming joy. Battle Brothers is much like lady luck, fickle and unpredictable with mercy.
Bro BB is amazing I’m so happy your taking it up, also the dlc is great too but I wouldn’t recommend it until you at least get use to playing and keeping a good group alive.
@@SirCrabthe1st oh shit that makes so much sense I never thought about it thought the undead always reanimated anyways, how do you deal with the asps those are my most difficult opponents.
Not sure if it still is something you can do. But you can get armor off killed enemies if you don't break it in combat. So what I used to do is arm all the bros with secondary weapon daggers, find an enemy with good armor and try to kill him without damaging the armor. Again, not sure if it still is a mechanic, but it used to be a good way to get decent armor in the early game.
In the beginning, don't charge people like you did in that first combat. Look for good higher ground and retreat to a defensive position and let them come to you. Use ranged weapons to your advantage and get some pole arms to stand behind your shield wall when you can. Having someone be your second lineman with a pole weapon is also a great way to get XP for future prospects too. Just some basic strategies from someone with over 400 hours in this game. Also, avoid orcs and goblins until you have good armor and weapons.
I just picked up BB last month and I am having a blast with it! Can't believe ambiguous happens to do the same just now, crazy luck!:D Looking forward to some amazing content bro
Monks ARE super useful always, they can randomly get you an always-in-demand consumable item. But a GOOD monk is super rare, as I've never had one and I've tried to get a single good one on over 20 different runs.
Monks are also super useful in a lot of random events that have some of your brothers fighting each other (such as late game hedge knights). Having a monk will give unique options to intervene and literally stop them from killing each other.
Yo man! The fact you name dropped HeroScape... makes you 10000X cooler. :P it was my favorite freaking board game and I kick myself for selling it all when I was younger and needing money from losing my job.

Been hearing about this game for several years. Just when I decide to buy it, my gaming laptop goes in the shop for a stuck key on my keyboard. Been in the shop for over 1 month now, because they got the incorrect keyboard, so now have to wait 2-3 more weeks for the correct keyboard to arrive. Can't wait to dive into it.
@45:55 It actually would have been better to fight them on the open field as you had superior numbers and a ranged advantage. If they come to you over an open field...they use stamina and AP...you don't. You get free ranged shots as they close the distance...they don't. And as soon as they engage, your superior numbers can envelop their line. When you're all bunched up with their backs against terrain, your numbers account for nothing and you are making them harder to kill because you can't surround them.
yeah the legends mod for this game is crazy, unit diversity, diffrent perk trees for every brother, some useless, some good, legendary hunt contracts, magic, extra events, a extreme challange run where you play as a shitty begger that steals combat stats from everything he kills but starts alone and poor
This is such a hard game but if you constantly save and autosave at every town and encounter i will always reload my saves just to save a a few broken bones.

my fave game so glad to see you play it. The first time the Ancient dead wreck you, you think its impossible. So when you solve them the feeling of your 2 handers running wild in their backline is just gold
😊😊
so freaking happy you finally found this game!! such an unbelieveable game and once you get the hang of it get the DLC, the extra options are phenomenal as well as the variety in opponents
If you had/are having problems with lategame, just tell me which 2 enemy groups are giving you the most trouble and I'd be happy to try to give you some pointers!
Also also, beware of undead gear in general. I can guarantee your Brother used to hit things twice and had to Recover or rest for a couple turns lol
Finally, assuming for whatever reason you really really reeeeeeeally want the Headhunter, try to farm an Assassin or Killer on The Run.
Just remember to pace yourself because its easy to get burnt out
Holy sh*t he's playing Battle Brothers?!
Grab a historian, 2 cultists & a hedge knight. The events are well worth the time!
One of my all time favorites. Its a real gem.
I love this game, sunk over 200 hours. It’ll be a treat to watch
Best to start with spears and bucklers. Spearwall is your friend
Ahhhh the Battle Brothers Rabbit hole. GOOOOOOOD LUCK!!
What a pleasant surprise. This game is truly fantastical and extremely underrated.
My full 12 man force usually is 3 crossbows with sword sidearm, 5 spearman with shields, 2 swordsman with shields, 1 long handled axeman, and the bannerman with reserved sword and shield
1:56:18 Yo Heroscape was my jam!! I played so much of that game so many hilarious moments from playing that game
Battle Brothers is excellent.
The Legends mod just takes it to another level.
I’m losing my mind over these bean people icons absolutely eviscerating each other
You bringing up Heroscape made me smile😆
AA I am very glad that you are doing this game so I welcome you to a world of maddening pain, frustration and overwhelming joy. Battle Brothers is much like lady luck, fickle and unpredictable with mercy.
Bro BB is amazing I’m so happy your taking it up, also the dlc is great too but I wouldn’t recommend it until you at least get use to playing and keeping a good group alive.
The DLC make the game a lot better, they add a ton of features and are worth it
Get three archers, one to alternate between the two others, also have two pikemen to reinforce the back line, the rest all needs shields and spears.
Are you forgetting about undead? You need weapons that can destroy the head of an enemy, so they can't resurrect.
@@SirCrabthe1st oh shit that makes so much sense I never thought about it thought the undead always reanimated anyways, how do you deal with the asps those are my most difficult opponents.
@@54032Zepol make sure to use a whip for the geist's.
They have a hit range of 3
It's still a pretty low chance tho
3 hours of ambiguous oh frabjous day!
Holy crap. AA playing BB.
This is one of those games that keeps trying to push me away, but it's under my skin at this point and I can't stop.
More Battle Brothers! This has been my favourite game for many years now. Tbh I have been waiting for you to discover it
Just found this game via Steam sale, and it is AWESOME. So glad I found it, LOVE turn based strategy games.
I agree, getting every little advantage adds up. The height bonus in particular can be a life saver, you just gotta pay attention to the terrain.
"i'll name him as a sign for me that i don't care about him" HMMMMMMMMMM
You'd absolutely love Oxygen Not Included!
Better make a bunch of series on this
I love this keep up the great work. I want to see more Battle Brothers. Hopefully i can catch your steam as well. ^^
I remember the days when caravan jobs wouldn't feed you and I accidently ended a few campaigns by not buying enough food before a caravan job
Oh gosh I love this game. Excited to see you play AA!
Yeessess I just got out of school and your streams are what keeps me company doing my homework!☆
I just picked up BB last month and I am having a blast with it! Can't believe ambiguous happens to do the same just now, crazy luck!:D
Looking forward to some amazing content bro
I love this game, I can't believe AA is playing it.
You want your starting brothers to live.
When you did your light set up, "north and east" junctions are right to left with your timing, "south and west" you did left to right.
One of my favorite games! Highly recommend FilthtyRobot's tutorials if you wanna learn how to play.
Quick tip for west and east: the word WE. W is left, E is right
The moment I discovered this game I thought “man I hope amphibian has a vid of this.”
The way you say Oregon amuses me
"you're a brawler, and do double damage while unarmed? well thats pretty good" *proceeds to put a shield and a dagger on him*
Monks ARE super useful always, they can randomly get you an always-in-demand consumable item.
If you have more dudes choakpoints aren't your friend
my names Corey and I love hearing my name lmao
I'm here to like your comment
Yo man! The fact you name dropped HeroScape... makes you 10000X cooler. :P it was my favorite freaking board game and I kick myself for selling it all when I was younger and needing money from losing my job.
so i legit sat here and watched this whole video. loved it, i got this game about 6 months ago played for a about an hour and jus thavn't gotten back into it. now im gonna get in and really dig in. Subbed and liked btw.
Amazing that you're playing this game! its a great one, hope you do lots of vids
This game like warband and darkest dungeons got mixed. But I still like it
I love the way you describe things, another great video! C:
I love the combat themes for this game.
Cant wait to see AA making a hobo army in his next vid
Wardogs, early game wardogs are absolutely devastating to low level brigands and they are terrible for the enemies morale
2:45:40 You really should read more, AA ^^. There was more there than just Grimald Thicc Boi's morale rising.
Finally tb stratey with taste
Theres a big overhaul mod called Legends, it does a lot of things. That mod also lets you play as an undead legion!
This is one of those games that watching someone else play makes you want to play it, because you think you can do so much better.
This game tickles me in good places~
First time I've ever heard someone pronounce it brig-and.
Hey!! I'm glad you found this game!! I loved your Kenshi videos.
Thanks for giving this game some exposure and showing of this gem. Again another great vod, thanks. Also Bannerlord vod when?
I've never heard of this game, but I love it so far. Would love to see some challenge runs and such.
Battlebrothers is one of those games I prefer watching instead of playing it myself. Too stressful for me haha
Nice too see you playing this game
I yearn to see more of you playing this. Yearn.
yeah the legends mod for this game is crazy, unit diversity, diffrent perk trees for every brother, some useless, some good, legendary hunt contracts, magic, extra events, a extreme challange run where you play as a shitty begger that steals combat stats from everything he kills but starts alone and poor
Cant wait to see AA play the Legends mod
This is such a hard game but if you constantly save and autosave at every town and encounter i will always reload my saves just to save a a few broken bones.
This game is really good, hope to see more of it, it's horribly unrecognized.
briguhnd
brigAND is killing me
heroscape was a wonderful game growing up, i still use the minis from it for DnD
Wow, I just started playing this game again and it's awesome to see you play this game too. It was very unexpected and I hope you enjoy it! I would highly recommend the DLC if you decide to play this game.
so I just bought this game, watching your stream trying to learn some basics. gonna start playing pretty soon I think :]
I have nearly 800 hours of playtime in this game. It's pretty good.
This is easily my top ten favorite games, i hate the white eyeless creatures that put your brothers to sleep and eat their minds always hard to kill.
Have you ever thought about doing narration, you have the voice and vocabulary for it, hands down.
Crippling strikes for the win!!
Oooooh BB time baby!
The best player I've seen is a small time UA-camr called Deducter SC. You should definitely collab.
I loooooove Battle Brothers.
Dude..you would love Darkest Dungeon..and I can almost guarantee you will get awesome content from it. That game was built for you.
hhheheheh. i raged quit after my best guy died to some necromancers.
