A couple of years ago I studied Chialdini as part of my Master's Degree and we talked about you, your Scam School episodes and the M&M's. I don't travel much, but I was on a flight earlier this year and it was my first opportunity to try it out. I handed over a Plain and a Peanut theater box to the flight attendants as I boarded the plane. They laughed and asked what I wanted. I deflected and feigned ignorance and innocence. They asked what my seat number was (they asked and had uniforms on, so they were 'in charge'). As the drink service came through each time, FREE DRINKS!!! Mission Accomplished! thanks for all the entertainment and education over the years. If you're ever in Seattle I'll buy you a beer.
I learned long ago, that if you tip your bartender in the beginning of the night saying that you don't want to forget to tip you cuz I can get forgetful after a drink or two. The bartender actually bought me a drink or two. Works about %80 of the time.

Back some years ago when I did frequent nightclubs I found getting there a little early and setting up a tab and then giving the bartender a fairly sizable tip often bought me some favorable treatment when the crowds started coming in and lines started forming to get drinks. Getting to know your bartenders always helped too. If your a good looking women in a short skirt none of this is really necessary even when the bartender is female but as a male you need all of the help you can get. It also helps if you can get the bartender to see you as a peer or someone who is on the same social standing as he is. (man to man kind of thing) The minute you become a sloppy drunk you can forget all that. No one likes sloppy drunks.
Michael 732 funny thing is bartenders use the same trick an give less, when that "free drink" rolls around. You tip well first time doesn't give you free drinks, show up multiple times will. Bartenders are only in it for the money, making new mixes. And trying new tricks to have you buy more.
When I was an undergrad I did a replication of the copier study. I found that the use of a reason was significant, but the attractiveness of the individual making the request was more significant!
5:16 make the cop laugh, a few weeks ago i got stopped for speeding, i smiled at them said ''you got me, sorry for speeding i just got off work and really need to take a shit.'' They smiled at me and sent me on my way. P.S. I fucking love this guy
My old teacher said you could just say "Can I use the copier because the weather is nice today", and people would let you cut in line. Your reason didn't have to actually be related to the action you want to do. Never tried it tho.
As somebody who works in live events, the part about looking right is most certainly true. Go to any festival and you can get backstage with a high vis vest and by looking busy. Just walk quickly like you know what your doing because thats what us techies tend to do all of the time anyway, and security (and us techies) will probably not even question your existence.
Great stuff. Huge fan of Brian Brushwood and Scam School. The one thing I noticed when I first started watching the show is that it always left you with a smile. It's great to see the science that goes behind the show. Even if I don't plan on using any of these techniques in real life, it's important to recognize them to defend yourself when they're used on you.
This show wasn't shot right. We needed close ups of Brian; of his face and of him doing the match trick. The audio in some spots was bad too. The audio of the played video messes up what Brian on the stage is saying. The whole thing warrants a re-do.

+lxlMlgGamerlxl welll if this was correct, you can actually switch it back off when you will need "good sound on one headphone" instead of "two working headphones" (which actually means you will miss half of the music/whatever that should go through left so you will get only "half of crap sound") you seem a bit stupid. let me make this clear for you, sound doesnt magiically improve when you change to stereo, it just "splits up" and you dont get to hear the same through both earphones anymore. so basically you need to decide between "crap sound" or "half of crap sound", if you're limited to one side of earphones.
Many people will perform any trivial task when told to, simply because it's easier than arguing or resisting. But once the person ordering you seems gone then the vast majority will stop performing the actions. The more authority the person appears to have then the more likely it'll be troublesome to resist. Actual security guards are able to cause trouble for you, experts at nagging and capable of kicking you out and getting backup. Ergo going along with some trivial task is usually the best course of action. The bigger the task the more effort you're willing to devote to figuring out whether they can actually cause trouble for you if you dont do it and if that trouble is worth it so less likely you'll do it.

Yeah. Scam School basically turned into Modern Rogue. But Scam School was more about magic tricks and puzzles, modern rogue, at least from what I've seen, is more about ways crimes/scams can actually be committed.
in fact it is shown in game theoretical experiments - so experiments about cooperation strategies, altruism, sociality and so on - that humans are more cooperative, or trustful, than they should be according to a economical theory of evolution. this doesn't mean that evolution is not true of course, but it could for example mean that consciousness is from an evolutionary point of view (so a point of view that is solely about reproductive success) some kind of byproduct/necessary evil that comes with the complexity of the brain, but is actually itself decreasing reproductive success (in the end all together it has to be increasing of course). further implications could be suicide and being scared/shy with the opposite sex. but that's just my hypothetical explanation.

He arrested the guy in the Porsche for reckless driving!
Fixed audio on windows 10. Just type "Mono" in search and open the setting "Turn mono audio on or off". Turn on the Mono audio. Don't forget the turn it off after you have finished!
I know this is old but can you guys repost this? even if you just mirror the audio I'm sure there will still be more people that will come watch this in the future that would enjoy to have audio in both ears...
