The wrench turned out beautiful. I painted one of the Harleys metalflake purple. I read someplace that at the Ford plant they took the offcuts from springs and forged them into wrenches. When I bought the 46 Ford truck, to haul around the 8N, I collected a set of Ford tools to go with it. I still have most of them.
Evening John, that piece of graphite can be powdered and makes a great dry lubricant for locks. A fine file will make light work of creating your powder. A little puff of graphite in a tight lock makes a huge difference.
I like the phrase "Hunk of Junk", whereas I get told that I am bringing home "someone else's rust" which I think sums up our passions. Great restoration and I always look forward to Candy Apple Red which has got to be your signature colour. Have a great weekend!.
At UTC we used graphite slabs on the runout tables. It wouldn't burn and didn't scratch the extrusions. You piece looks like a motor brush. That must have been one heck of a motor. When Dad & I worked at the foundry they had arc furnaces used to melt Stellite for casting jet compressor blades and valve heads. The arc furnace used graphite electrodes to create the arc. I remember going in to take Dad's lunch and getting to look into the arc furnace through the special glasses. Pretty cool for an 8 yesr old kid. No OHSA in 1959.
Dave- I thought the same thing! There were a couple of hex rods about 3/4" diameter that looked like it could be arc rod... I was and still am amazed at that barrel of Graphite! =)
Great video today John I think my middle name is Hank of junk these days. There’s nothing more satisfying than turning a rusty tool into something useful in the factory finish. I must say I do like the plum. Have a great weekend and I look forward to Monday.
Wow. That's the best one yet! What difference! Looks like candy! You are right. It's really impressive to see just how far it can go, and that you can still get it to come back like that! Great job!
Plumb Crazy! Love the color scheme of that Hunk Of Junk! Cool looking items at those antique stores. When I lived in Denver the prices were crazy for the industrial items. Great show!
The POYPLE side is my favorite. It's waayy better than it was new. I enjoyed looking at those insulators, clocks, and overpriced fans. That Arvin Space heater in the first booth was calling my name...... Have a great weekend sir!
Hi Joe! You know what's funny about a wall of drawers, unless you mark every drawer you have no idea what you have! LOL I learned that from those big plastic bins, once you put stuff in there it's gone forever! =)
Boy you are getting very colorful in your restorations. I have never seen a candy purple/yellow wrench. Doubt I will every see another one. Thanks for posting.
You weren't kidding the prices are high! Those Vises were priced high! I bought an Athol for $10 bucks at a yard sale. Huge heavy one. Can't remember the number yet. And that fan!!!! I liked the 2nd store. That bug sprayer reminded me of a cartoon where a character used one like that! That graphite was huge. I thought Delrin (sp?) at first. That Hunk of Junk turned out great. I like both colors. I sure love those flap wheels. Great turn around! Have a great weekend!
Definitely plum crazy color. Been giving you thumbs up for the last six or seven videos I might as well subscribe! Really enjoy your restoration videos and your good sense of humor. Old-school man!!! 👍👍👍😎🇨🇱
Graphite can be used for air bearings. I have no idea what you would need air bearings for, but it would work well. I wish I had that 4 belt sheeve at 3:00. Would be nice for the Sidney. I knew that wrench would clean up nicely. You have a good eye for those. Candy yellow gets my vote.
That candy yellow has a gold glow to it that I like. One of these times you should fancy engrave you and your girlfriend's name onto one of your restored "hunk of junk" pieces she finds and gift it to her! Great restoration and story behind it John. Monger's looks like a really fun place to go. That row of what looked to be cast iron metal lathe legs had me drooling. It would save me building a heavy table for my metal lathe if I could find a pair for cheap for my Atlas! I cannot find that pumpkin colored porcelain insulator (at 5:53) with the hole through the center in the official porcelain book. If it screws onto a pin (might be it had a lag screw removed screw out its bottom that would have been used to screw it into a wall) that could be an interesting (new?) and rare find. Excellent video! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I really enjoy the roadtrips you take us on. The Mongers looks nice too browse trough and get some inspiration but the other shop looks like a true honey hole. You girlfriend did a great find, gotta love em for it. You sure did a beautiful job too, making that new pin sure requires some skill. I showed you making a pin for the Billings model G from Scotland to a friend of mine who has a lathe and does work on pistols with it, he was real impressed with both your skills and your machinery. Please tell me you bought the shears, they are amazing. My all time favorite of yours is the Italian garden prunes, because that is how I found you. I would love a revisite on the garden theme. Thanks a lot Scoutcrafter, hope you have a great weekend.
Great restoration! Ms. Scoutcrafter has a great eye for tools...and men. Add a little green and that auto wrench will almost be ready for Mardi Gras!!! Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday.... I have to say that candy Yellow really makes you look twice at that wrench. We had a 1954 corvette painted that color in the early 60,s. It would have been great having a set of tools highlighted in yellow to keep in the roadside toolbox. I really enjoy watching your Disney colors Pallette on these older tools..Wonderful job.....James
Those places were cool to see. That wrench was in better actual shape than most I see. I have a few myself, as far as working on anything they are worthless, but cool anyway. I bought a "jambox" back in 1985 at Crazy Eddie's!
Good stuff! I was thinking that will be really cool to see Scoucrafter getting some top of the line new tools from Klein, Knippex, Wiha, whatever. Do a tool review and after, that tool should receive the over the top treatment! That will be something to see! I have cleaned up and polished my Klein Hybrid pliers and they look impressive with a mirror finish - I know Scoutcrafter will do a 10x better job at that than I could ever do.
I would really love to see you work the best magic you have on that plier that’s too far gone. Just to see how good you can get it, even if it’s just becomes a pair of thin tweezers.
Dan- So far the worst tool I think I ever did was the Coyote Ridge Wrench! Now this was 2 years ago but I have learned a ton since then and I think my restorations have come a long way but it's interesting to look back and think "I could do so much better now" ua-cam.com/video/4rr_p-a_YSA/v-deo.html
Good show. I think those pieces of graphite were probably "brushes" out of large electric motors. Particularly, since that portion of the market was sort of factory reclaimed items. The hole was probably where the braided copper was attached. I've seen people do that, before. Buy out a closed factory and part everything out that they could. Some of those graphite pieces were huge. Man, a shame I couldn't have been there.
Your "thing" is pliers. Mine is vintage metal tool boxes. You pointed your camera at a whole stack of them at the 3:20 mark and I yelled at my laptop, "Wait! Slow down! I want to see!" Regarding the wrench restoration, I was pretty tickled to see the purple color. I would have put that on both sides. I painted my tool shed purple. Not the same shade, of course. I even used the leftover paint to make my mailbox post the same color. My wife hates it. I don't know why. I think it's awesome.
The only thing I would've done to that wrench was wire brushed and oiled it. No junk hunk there. Like the S-10 Taco. Cheryl called it a Clunkermobile till we got to thinking about replacing it. That was the LAST of that term. The body has rust and holes but everything but the radio works, including the a.c. and it's a 4.3 and 4x4 extended cab with a bed liner. So what if it's an 89! It gets me there and back. Thanks John CS! Happy weekend yourself and I like BOTH colors!
Lewie- I remember back about 1995 I was driving a 10+ year old truck as usual and one day I realized my truck was the only vehicle in the entire lot with RUST... I had 5 Chevys and every one of them was a POS! LOL!!!!!!! Needless to say I'm done with them... :LOL
@@ScoutCrafter I've had about everything and it don't matter to me one bit. If it'll go and stop I can care less who made it. Everything but a dodge and the ONLY one of those I ever wanted was a 3/4 ton G.I. weapons carrier. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
One thing that was noticeable even with the rust was how good the Thumbwheel & Teeth looked, gotta go with the *Yellow.* Looks like some giant motor brushes, I'm sure you'll come up with an interesting use for that Graphite........If nothing else you can toss it in the Blender and make some Graphite Powder....LOL

I worked at National Electrical Carbon some years ago and they did make graphite motor brushes that were that large. They would get orders for brushes used in motors that were easily 100 years old. Often they were the motors for freight elevators and the like. There are still a lot of very old electric motors still in service especially one's that just have intermittent use. Cheers from NC/USA

Hey Scoutcrafter you forgot to show us again how to do the candy apple paint. Remember last video we talked about how we can’t find the video where you talked about it? Oh well maybe next time. The wrench turned out great. I like the yellow but that plumb crazy is pretty far out. I love it when I find tools covered in that orange rust because that means the prices will be right. Hi David! This video is from DuplaColor and shows how to apply it- I think they either got some overspray on the lens or filmed it with a -potato! =) ua-cam.com/video/WmJTgwLOaGs/v-deo.html

Love the colors! I used to be a steel forger and we used liquid graphite to keep the parts from sticking to the dies. Dirtiest job ever lol
Hi Jim! Liquid Graphite! WOW!
New subscriber here,I vote for the candy yellow of the two colors!
Great looking shop Terrible prices 👍 😁
The funny thing is there was a lot of people but nobody was buying... =D
There are reclaim places like that here in the UK, The prices of all this old industrial looking stuff is sky high!
Looks great, as always!
Take care. 👍🏼
Hi David! This video is from DuplaColor and shows how to apply it- I think they either got some overspray on the lens or filmed it with a -potato! =) ua-cam.com/video/WmJTgwLOaGs/v-deo.html
I vote for plum crazy! The hedge clippers at the antique store looked like perfect handle screw drivers. Any relationship? Thanks and have a nice weekend.
Tony- Tune in Monday!!! =D
