I have used the football illustration myself in regards to receiving. I give you complete and total unrestricted licence to use it if you so chose. No credit to myself.
It has do do with definition, ala football, of receiving.
The receiver as soon as he makes contact with the ball has not received it. He has to get a hold of the ball, pull it in and maintain possession of it as he either makes a football move in relation to moving the football or goes to the ground and keeping control it until the play is whistled dead.
The player must hold onto the ball as though his very life depends it and, in our case, regarding receiving from our Father, it truly does.
