  • After double-checking the all-22 film of the Bears' 21-16 loss to the Colts in Week 3, Laurence Holmes was even more encouraged with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams' progress. The problem is the Bears offensive line isn't talented enough to keep up.

    Our problem is NOT Caleb. Kid has plenty of talent. It's the COACHING, and then the o line, but they take their marching orders from Waldron and Eberflus.

    I think he's actually processing it faster than almost everyone else on the offense at this point. And I think if they could find a way to get him protected, he would look like the stud, we all thought we were getting in the draft. That being said now, the trick is to not get him killed by poor offensive line play.

    This actually a fantastic example of A+ football coverage. Focusing on some of the intricate details and making well thought out operational and executionable analysis.

    Calab has improved EVERY game so far. That’s the most important measurement! It’s gonna take three more games to see if he has it. I (many others) think he does aside from the shitty offense and play calling right now.

      I saw Caleb throw the ball landing thirty feet away from the receiver. O-line is killing him. I am glad Ryan Poles has Tyson Bagent benched even though he is better than Caleb. The new experiment is a copy of Green Bay keeping Jordan Love benched for years learning. Bagent should be focusing on the division games coming up. 🐻🕧🧆🏝

      @@Michael-CharlesAust-ee5oo bagent was impressive for an undrafted rookie qb, but not relative to an nfl qb. he's a solid backup. there's nothing he's shown that could indicate that he's the future. there are more backups in the league that sit for years and don't do anything than there are jordan love story's. bagent doesn't have nearly as much physical talent as love either. regardless, i don't understand why you would already give up on our #1 overall pick after 3 games.

      He’s further along bc he came from a coach who knew his abilities and made the most out of them. He’s probably upset at how this offensive staff isn’t as good as his college teams.

    I hate how people are shittin on Caleb.......i hated how they shitted on Justin Fields.....tbh play callin and oline been fucked up for about 4 yrs. Justin is winning with better play calling and a better oline. Caleb will too....rather it be here in Chicago than some where else.....nd please fuckin throw more slants nd vertical passes and move swift to rb 2. Tht is all

    Completely agree Holmes. You can see that he has the talent. He’s way too talented to fail. He got more comfortable as the game went on Sunday and it was encouraging as hell to see.

    People keep claiming a lot of his passing yards were garbage time yards. 1st off this was a 2 and then 1 score game. 2nd is this. How many times was Fields and even Mitch getting beat by more than 2 scores when they had plenty of garbage time and never hit any where close to those yardage numbers? I'll wait!

      Exactly. Even if you take away the 45 yard hailmary, Caleb still had 318 yards. JF is averaging 17 ppg in PITT as a game manager for a HOF coach.

    For sure, if you've watched football for a while and really understand the QB position at even a novice level, you see the kid gets it. I'm so excited to watch when he puts it together. It's going to be phenomenal!

    3:42 there’s also a play where he throws it off his back foot late for a red zone interception and there’s also a play with the game on the line he drops back doesn’t feel pressure and gets stripped for a game losing play

    I think if he continues to show progress that’s all we can ask for other than make sure Oline doesn’t get him seriously hurt. I wasn’t expecting him to be very good yet anyways, just better than Fields at least so we know for sure he was worth the risk.

    this analysis is in line with a conversation I had last week with a family friend of Caleb’s that basically said that this young has been the real deal since Gonzaga H.S. . I would be more inclined to believe that Caleb has to be slowed down for the offense rather than the offense being slowed down for him. based on what I was told, this QB isn’t the problem as he’s been taught by some of the NFL greats.

      This is such a drone comment. Fields was absolutely a problem. No serious people were saying Fields was THE problem. But hes never going to be a force multiplier, he needs a lot of help. Caleb just needs a little more and we can see sustained success on offense.

    This is the assessment that actually makes sense and not hinting at firing the staff. After watching film from this season and last season I came up with an assessment of 4 of the 5 starters.
    Braxton Jones has the size to push people around but his feet are too slow to play tackle.
    Nate Davis has faster feet but struggles to engage the block on lateral movement.
    Tevin Jenkins is playing cautiously with his upper body because of previous back issues.
    Darnell Wright has the speed but struggles with hand fighting at the snap and the defensive ends are exploiting that now, hence the increase in his holding calls.

Unlike Pace, he hasn’t been mortgaging the future. Poles has one more year to complete his rebuild. People have to understand that he hasn’t finished rebuilding the team yet!! He never said they were gonna be a superbowl team this year. That was the media and fans. He has one more year to use up the remaining draft capital that he acquired. There are tons of talent at the defensive and offensive line next year. His draft needs fit the available players perfectly!!

They couldn’t develop fields. It takes rookies a few years to develop. We are seeing stevenson and gervon sr starting to develop towards the end of their rookie year and they are still playing well into their 2nd year. I dont understand why everyone expected caleb to be a aaron rodgers in only his first 3 games. CJ stroud was the best rookie QB ever! But even he didn’t get started until his 4th game. And he had better o-line and coaching than caleb. I just want to see improvement by caleb. Then i know we have our franchise QB. If we dont win games and caleb is playing at a high level then i know its not him losing the games. How many games did the bears lose last year when they should have won? I would say at least 3. Thats on the coaches
