  • I'm discussing the fact that I seem to have lost a lot of time this past year. This is primarily due to a poor work/life balance on my part. I encourage you to join me in 2024 as I attempt to focus more on what is important and less on what is urgent I life.
Enjoying the penultimate bowl of my 2023 blend in a Phil Rivara pipe.

When I knock a bunch of stuff over I call it my “high gravity” days. Lol. Work life balance. I agree with your statement however much of my generation has tipped the scale the other way to where they don’t want to work at all hardly.

Glad I'm not the only one who is gravitationally challenged 😂 And yes, it is a balance and both extremes are bad. We are paying more for less and just feeding the fires of expectation. But that's a subject for another day 😉👍

Happy New Year, Mike. I jar my dottle and keep it to smoke on occasion. So far no disappointments. Today I had some Arango Supreme Balkan while taking a walk on the Oceanside. My pipe today was a Duncan military mount billiard. An old estate I reconditioned and cleaned up. A delightful pipe.

Thanks for subscribing, and nice to meet you. I don't have many good things to say about aromatics, but I have a lot of good friends who smoke aromatics 😉👍

I think you should use the remains of the 2022 tobacco like a sourdough starter and add it to the 1023. I think what yo do there could be called a fun excentricity.
I'm retired and fortunately, I no longer have to be effective. To me, retirement is the transfer from doing to being.
    Happy New Year Mike!

I actually do that, Michael! But I will add a bowl of the yet to be smoked 2023 blend to start the 2024 jar.
Happy New Year and best wishes!

Mike, wishing you and yours a healthy and prosperous New Year. As far as time goes, remember life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer to the end the faster it goes.😅Take care, and stay well my friend. John

Long working ours might be ok especially if you have a fulfilment … yet a balance is important, but other things happen sometimes which consume us, which might be out of our control, sometimes in relation to people interactions at working place (1 person giving troubles is more than enough to make you loose your sleep, yet these things can help us re-consider everything else, e.g. appreciate even more a peaceful time with a good pipe). Happy new year!

What you need more of in 2024 is more time to smoke a few bowls with your buddy Armchair piper. Just a thought. Ed

Happy new year to you Mike and don’t worry about the wall, in all likelihood, you’ll end up painting it before the end of 2024. I know how frustrating time management can be so to avoid being constantly disappointed or anxious because I always felt like I spent my life running after my tail, I decided to give up on this “complete a task, feel rewarded” philosophy we were brought up in, which, in my humble opinion, contributes to send us to an early grave. 🪦⚰
When I became disabled, I finally realized that the way we humans function is usually to focus on our pile of problems and tasks with the disillusionment that once that problem or series of problems are solved or completed, we may have and enjoy relative peace of mind for a day, a week, a month or a year, which, of course never happens! Our hopes never materialized for the simple reason that we are by nature “problem solvers”. Our brain chemistry makes us envision our purpose as to focus on the most urgent problem on top of the problem pyramid we happen to have to solve. The problems at the base of the pyramid that we rarely end up working on, often include what we, for the time being, perceive as unsolvable problems, not to mention the numerous dilemmas, conscience challenging issues, obstacles and predicaments that we often end up never tackling, hoping that time itself will end up taking care of some of them.
PS. I seem to recollect that the initial way to do this was to include the last bowl or bits of any blend you finished and enjoyed, period. I didn't know you started to exclude latakia & aro's, which makes it a lot less perilous. The obvious solution would be to dedicate another jar for the last bowl of whatever blend you didn't care for or that included latakia or aro's, enjoyed or not. You could smoke those once a day for the whole duration of Lent, coming up in six weeks! 😉

Very insightful points you made there, Christian. Thank you as always for making me think!
The rules for the annual blend have been consistent, but I really like your idea for Lenten penance. If I've been particularly bad, I could add Lakelands 😂👍

Sorry for making your life miserable!, I'm a despicable friend. For repentance, I'm going to smoke all that is left from the Three Star Blue! 😂🤣 Have a wonderful evening and try to enjoy the day tomorrow, don't do anything useful for a change! XO
