I don't think there has been a greater live performer ever. His recordings are great but they don't compare to the live performance where could let his emotion and feeling carry him. Never played a song the same and never played the same set. Incredible!!!!
Can't get enough of this. No one, nowhere, now how will replace Stevie. Ever. The man left a big, fat gaping hole in the blues landscape that will never filled. Some will come close, no doubt, but he truly was one in a million.
yea I agree with "ttrelph" no one has or ever will be able to get this kind of tone out of an instrument... he has complete control of the guitar and simply does not make mistakes.. absolutely flawless and one of the most soulful players ever
If I wasn't 3 months old when this dude left us all, I'd travel the fucking country, following this mans every step. I go to a concert now, it's just loud noises. If I heard this at a concert, I'd have a jolt down my spine. He makes me want to get up and scream GO STEVIE GO!
As a guitar player myself Stevie has taught me so much but as if being a killer slinger isn't enough,he could stand alone as a singer and as you wrap your head around that he also wrote brilliant songs, some that are staples,or should be,in every guitarists repertoire. He had it all...In spades and some boots you'll never fill. Thanks Stevie & Double trouble.🙏
Wow! this is the kind of thing that can move a grown man to tears! For me personally, There is no comparison in Blues when it comes to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Sure, there are other masterful players, but none played with the ferocity, intensity, or energy that he played with, and to sustain that for the entire performance is just incredible! I compare it to having your chest blasted open with every single searing note that he played, over and over again! Just phenomenal!
@ummwtf24 you are absolutely right about Stevie. He borrowed from everyone, but did it his own way. His humility and decency are as legendary as his playing. If you were to ask him who the best guitar player was, I would bet he would immediately say his brother Jimmy. I'm just sayin...........
Eric Clapton once said, "To be playing guitar next to Stevie is to be standing next to true greatness." I think that about sums it up from a guy who's beyond great.
To borrow another's post on YT - never before, never again. I agree with the others Stevie's sound and genius is so much more than his pure technical ability - his hands, strong forearms, huge heart and passion created his own unique sound. I think it was Tommy Shannon who once said stepping into Stevie's "space" onstage he could literally feel an electric charge emanating from him as if he had a special "aura." No one B4 or since has excited me like Stevie. I love you sweet man! See you soon!
I think the strings are a big key to starting to sound like stevie...but I think its one of many. I know you hear this all over the place and to some it might piss off or annoy but I believe it's true that his hands, heart/soul, and love for music gives the edge to his sound. I started listening to the blues 3 years ago after I slipped in texas flood album while driving on the freeway home one night. I felt what I believe stevie wanted people to feel from his music.
If you enjoy this style music then support it! Support your local artists who play this style music. Tell everyone you know about whoever you think is great and spread the word to the edge of the earth. Start a conversation with it. MUSIC IS DYING PEOPLE! THE KIDS HAVE TAKEN OVER!! This is why a country music artist "RAPS" and the song goes to number one on the charts. SUPPORT BLUES AND ROCK AND ROLL!! Bring it back!! SAVE THE MUSIC!!
I remember when I first saw him in DC at Desperadoes. I didn't have a clue as to who he was, neither did half the people standing in line. But inside were Danny Gatton, Duke Robillard, Tom Principato, and a number of other well known blues guitarists there to STUDY him! I knew right then it was going to be ...what? No words can describe what I heard.
@SRV4evr i remember tommy and chris were doing an interview about SRV and they were saying he would always get shocked by the mic. they would try to fix it, they would wear his clothes and guitar and nothing would happen but then stevie would do it and get shocked almost every time.
espectacular siempre hay algo nuevo de stevie realmente uno se sorprende lo bueno que es, y cada vez esucha uno cosas increibles en youtube inéditas no se de dónde carajos sacan tanto material pero se les agradece simplemente increible
This sound and SRV's brilliance completely turned the direction in which I played the guitar...... ......before it was rock with distortion and metal stuff..... ........after SRV it was balls out blues........... .....I just never get tired of that hard driven clean sound and those bends...............
just put 13's on my strat with texas specials and the difference in tone is amazing, I am a massive stevie fan and when you can play with these sort of strings you can start to see how stevie got his sweet tones. the difference it makes is amazing. I can highly recommend people step up to 13's if you want to get anywhere near his sound. It won't be easy but your fingers will get stronger after a while. Its taken me 20 years to realize that the strings are where its at.
@jerrysweley There's an interview with Stevie you can watch on YT where he definitely states "There is no best guitar player". He even says it twice as if to help it come through to some wooden heads who never stop arguing about who "the best ever" is
I saw him at Cullen auditorium on the U of Houston campus in 82 back up to George Thorogood.People kept saying Austin Rocks Stevie Ray Vaughn. None of us even knew who he was but he had been playing at several clubs in Houston. We were just college students and did not go clubbing. It only took about one song and we knew who SRV was. I would have hated to come on after that set. They did not have Reese yet and it was a true power Trio. He played several Hendrix songs but the song I remember the most is Tim Pan Alley. Saw him three more times and they were all great. SRV was the real deal.
Isn't it funny how you just keep coming back to this UA-cam post OVER AND OVER AND OVER, just to hear Stevie wear that ol' Strat out!!!!!!!!!! Man, that's some wicked sweet tone, now isn't it? Enjoy! Hey (john7282), WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS, AND HOW CAN I GET A COPY FOR OUR LIBRARY? THANKS MAN FOR POSTING THIS!
love this pic, that guitar is beautiful, beat up and worn down the old fashioned way: playing, playing, playing and playing some more. not that artificial "vintage" look people try to recreate with brand new guitars now.
Stevie Ray Vaughan, was spectacular Blues guitarist Something very unique little repeat notes in each song, he was and excellent and talented guitarist to Get the sttention of Eric Clapton When he said that he is amazed at how well he Plays the Blues 🎸
I recommend the book "Caught in the Crossfire" by Joe Nick Patowski. It is the story of Stevie's life and takes you along on his journey, from being a kid growing up in Dallas TX (NOT 50 other places, only Dallas) He followed his big brother Jimmie to Austin. He was a guitar playing genius, and also a fucked up mess. (drugs and alcohol) He finally hit bottom and worked his way (HARD work) back to health and success. These bootleg recordings are the best!!!
John's a fine guitar player and would be the first to let you know he isn't in SRV league.......but in a day in age of the electric blues being out of the mainstream of entertainment he still shows deep respect for it......... Anyway.........BB King once said "if you really want to hear the blues listen to that White kid out of Texas":
You are right on here. The ability to play rhythm guitar interfaced with lead is rare. Hendrix had it, and he had the same slender fingers, but big reaching hands that could dominate the fret board.
Just 2 make it clear, SRV is the BEST IMO! We just don't need superstition to make him better! Whatever the strings and such, you have to have the feel!!!!!!
@B0FF01 Stevie and his family moved a lot from one city to another staying in different places from 6 weeks to 6 months. That was one of the most traumatic experiences he remembered along with the severe physical and psychological abuse he got from his father... (and his older brother too)
@stonedpimpdaddy In the blues genre, my ears hear and have heard only one guitarist (SRV) that is flat out superior to the rest. It isn't to say many of the names in the Blues genre that you mentioned along with many others are not incredible in their own way, but they cannot be compared to the great one IMHO. BTW, you have a number of guitarists on your list that certainly fit my favorites. I think Jerry Garcia for older and Gilbert for newer have to be in that mix somewhere though;).
@ElijahEverhart28Nvbr Mayer and many others like one genetic trait that SRV has that few guitar player have for his height.....and that is huge oversized hands.......but fingers that are not too big.............that unique and rare combination sets the foundation for the passion and genius of SRV's licks and desires to express himself through his instrument.....he can literally do things the are physically impossible for others to do no matter how talented they are.
I have to laugh! I have not been described ever in my life as crude, vulgar, stupid and it's been a long time since I had the mind of an adolescent. But I do have soul....and a great deal of diehard SRV fannism!
Well don`t get upset because I`m the numero uno Stevie Ray fan in the world but I say that for every one SRV there are a thousand others who have the ability to play guitar at such a high level who haven`t had a chance to showcase themselves due to the music industry. Now SRV was SRV but he as well as any decent guitar player was effected by what he listened to which in turn came out in his playing. Yes it was HIS way but the licks from other great players was there. No doubt about it,
I don't deny any of that..................it is all part of his makeup............but his hands were huge which means strength....there is always strength with size...... Now consider the tone he got from heavy guage strings and you must have the physiological feature to bend those kind of strings and shake them the way he does.......
@greenfruitface Bingo.......I search for that tone in every strat.....every stomp box...every amp......every cable........every pick........every lick and every thought when I play the blues........
SRV's tone. Got to have that neck single coil pickup...a floating vintage strat bridge too! Amps....folks you need a tube amp that has point to point soldering....hand soldering that is.....which is very very expensive in a boutique amp these days....... Strings..13s are not the secret....you can use any gauge within reason but tune it down 1/2 step to get a spongy springy sound. only with that WARM TUBE AMPS you got that smooth and sweet vintage mild distorsion blues fucking good tone, unfortunately fender do no more vibroverbs and super reverb quality amps

He had, to me, the greatest Strat tone EVER. I just can't imagine improving on it, it's just so fucking perfect.

SRV touches my soul, makes it cry......
postmyshizzle I know EXACTLY how you feel.. An ache that pierces your heart and won't go away and you don't want it to either.. N
Me TOO....Love this man and his music and will all the days of my life.

man how cool it must have been to go to a local bar on 6th street in Austin back in early 80's and see the God we call Stevie Ray!
@ummwtf24

Legend..Wow what an artist, he can paint a picture through music!
Those were the days. Stevie kickin' ass right out the gate !
Love You Brother. RIP
Sure wish there was a video of him playing this. Would be wonderful. Love to watch him play. So Electrifying! Can't get enough!
SRV couldn't miss a note if he tried. He is the best and will never be matched, this includes you John Mayer.
I love that picture of Stevie, so intense, now that's blues playing!!
we all can relate in different ways, but we all must admit this is awesome?

really nice suprise here! I saw him several times in 73 & this is how I remember him sounding

......before it was rock with distortion and metal stuff.....
........after SRV it was balls out blues...........
.....I just never get tired of that hard driven clean sound and those bends...............
Yeah! Force of Nature. Good stuff
The main riff sounds like a Freddie King instrumental....damn srv was a badass

Ain't no tone like Stevie Ray TONE!!
I was born in 1983 but i wish i coulda been at one of these no name shows beforw he got popular.
I saw him at Cullen auditorium on the U of Houston campus in 82 back up to George Thorogood.People kept saying Austin Rocks Stevie Ray Vaughn. If it wasn’t for stevies strat that trend would never have begun
Excellent choice!
All SRV ever did was to get that tone that dances in your head and rarely comes to your fingers and choke the SOB and make it talk. Man I miss him.
live and learn janis, jimi, john, and stevie ray were passionet to me to young also , see and believe in what music has to offer, live your life
Thanks a lot!
Stevie Ray Vaughan, was spectacular Blues guitarist Something very unique little repeat notes in each song, he was and excellent and talented guitarist to Get the sttention of Eric Clapton When he said that he is amazed at how well he Plays the Blues 🎸
dude, I wanna jam with Stevie , just let the band role , dig the shuffle and rip that blues and never forget t-bone
Close your eyes and play your music 🎶
Swwweeeeetttt....Texas Baby....i soooo miss you.....

Fitzgerald's, Houston, TX, December 1983. Kind of a variation of So Excited, his usual opener then.
@BluesCat1980 I totally agree man. Not another SRV, or Hendrix, but something new and exciting!
i keep asking my self, how in the hell did SRV get sooo good ?
No one can play like that !!
so sad he's gone :-(
Funkyyyy... GOD DAMN that boy's FUNKY!

That old sunburst is his #1, 13's tuned down a half step.
The best to do it
Love that "Vaughan face."
This man is genial.
Is good!!
You take one SRV, add two '64 Vibroverbs and a 1979 Marshall 4140, plus a '63 Strat and wah-la.....Tone-to-Die-For!!

@ElijahEverhart28Nvbr no truer words were ever spoken
It it's so rare, what is it doing on You Tube?
@ElijahEverhart28Nvbr SRV's ablitiies were in part because he lack musical theory.......what I mean is when you go for broke in expressing yourself you don't have any preconceived notions musically as to what makes sense from a theory standpoint......he was onced asked in guitar player mag about what kinds of jazz modes and chords he prefers to add into his playing and his reply was "I don't know anything about that stuff"...........LOL......love it!
Steve is gone, his music is eternal, but this is just a recording and not live as a jam you can see.
I'll tell you where Stevie got is sound is his sound crew who helped shaped his sound.
@ttrelph SOUL TO SOUL from his to ours!!!!
only with that WARM TUBE AMPS you got that smooth and sweet vintage mild distorsion blues fucking good tone, unfortunately fender do no more vibroverbs and super reverb quality amps
the early SRV had such a timing. I say this: Not even Jimi could match him (Jimi on the other side was the more enspired and far more experimental and songwriting character.)
totally
srv will be strong from now on .imo.
only one guitar player in the world could stand with him -derek trucks
@buchris2001 Amen Brother!
tone out the WAHZOO!
@ttrelph Absolutely! And I love it.
@ttrelph Its called being moving by a musician who remained true to himself by only playing what moved him too............there are few musician if any in the mainstream of today that are so moved by what they play that it moves others....
Stevie reminds me of Jaco Pastorius.......music screamed out of his soul and he wasn't afraid to express that in whatever manner possible through his instrument...

@jacopman Yep!
@B0FF01 Of course, you are free to believe or disbelieve what you want. I personally have no reason to disbelieve Stevie's own story told by Stevie himself. You can hear it too if you have any interest in the man's life (the audio file is on YT). If you don't, then maybe you really need to stop commenting
@bung0000 Its in his hands, not the strings. You could play with stevies own gear and not get his sound.
@timmy47 It must have been Stevie's magnetic personality that caused the sparks to fly! Ha!
how can you even say Stevie Ray Vaughn and John Mayer in the same sentence? not to be compared, EVER!!
Uhh... you kinda did just say it in the same sentence
@omeritos not yet. he's yet a captain and SRV was a general
@jerrysweley Think about it....................we all borrow from everyone in music and life..........our environment shapes all of us.........but the key is what do we do with that environment to create our own individuallly is ultimately what counts and is respected by others.........................

Please everyone, can anyone tell me the name of this song? DAM IT'S BAD ASS! Great background beat!.
It's not a song, it's just a jam.
@MarlanGero It's probably some dude from the outskirts of Bejing, who just got his first internet connection, and he's wondering what the hell he is listening to. He can't make heads or tails of what his ears are witnessing. ToOL!
That's great - where did you find it?
@joshua9312 No All those Bluesers were there to watch HIM (SRV)
