Note: Event though it crops, I chose to have stabilization on for these tests because that's what everybody does nowadays, for some reason they all feel they need to walk and talk at the same time, so I needed to show them what to expect when doing that, but to get the best quality when doing that, I had it on a tripod. Keep in mind, stabilization was also on for all the other cameras. I also used the kit lenses they come with, but don't knock them- kit lenses are better than you think! Here's a video I did on the exact same kit lenses used in this video ua-cam.com/video/DrCy73QGkmA/v-deo.html
Thank you for your videos Markus! I learn a lot watching your videos, thank you!!
I think of The ZVe10 as the a5100 with some "Quality of life" additions for STREAMING. Being able to just plug in a USB-C cable straight into your Mac/PC and have Zoom/Teams/OBS et al just work without a dummy battery or capture card is a real plus for many non tech folk who want to get better optics than their Logitech camera.
Love your site, Marcus, but I must disagree with you on the ZV E10...I bought one last summer w 3 Sigma autofocus primes and the 4K video quality is stunning...Sigmas are razor sharp. When I showed people the short I directed in December, they couldn't believe that I shot it with that tiny camera. It's not a run-n-gun like the Rv 100, but I bought the ZV E10 as a cinema camera and it has not disappointed. Keep up the superior, no BS content!!!
You are actually the only guy, who represents a point of view of the person, who had enough technical things in life, and now just want a camera to do the job.
I have to say, this has to be one of the best videos of its kind. The comparisons in real time and the way you elaborated on the difference was incredible. Thank you.
Thanks again, Markus. Nobody does what you do, and you've helped me figure out stuff with cameras and lighting that I didn't even know that I needed to understand! Always enjoy your honest assessments and opinions. Thanks, again! ~ Mike
I am so glad Mr. Markus that you presented your episode like this. So many times folks 'want to believe' that newer 'means better'... and as you illustrated, that's not true. Was actually surprised that the A5100 still held up against the others. Great review/tip.
What a GREAT Video! Seriously, I've been watching tons and tons of comparison vids and have not seen any that simply show the straight up comparison you did. Thanks!
I am using both zv e10 and zv1 from sony. I guess you have turned on active stabilization all the time during your comparison process. Can you please turn off the stabilization and compare it again! I am using zv e10 for years & really loved it! The sensor is the same sensor used on a6xxx series but sony just induced some new features like flip out screen, eye auto focus, new color science etc. To be honest you can not get wrong with any camera now a days. I appreciate your time to make the videos and helping out us figuring out different things. I love your content
Yes my tests here showed the footage looks the same as the 6300, but I chose to have stab on because that's what everybody does nowadays, for some reason they all feel they need to walk and talk at the same time, so I needed to show them what to expect when doing that, but I wanted to get the best quality when doing that, so I had it on a tripod. The RX had stab on as well as the Canons. I used to love the 6300 but I guess the RX spoiled me 😀
This one of the most underrated UA-cam channel. Simple advices, understandable description. Thank you @MarkusPix
Hi Marcus, I love watching your video about small camera competitions, please keep making more videos with new compact cameras.
Thanks, Markus. When I'm ready to upgrade, I'll have a better idea of what to look for.
Love this video! It’s exactly what I was looking for. One question - can you tell me the best way to add a mic to the RX100 (with a grip shooter) and some suggestions for a mic to purchase?

Thanks for all your insights, Markus! Love when you do these comparisons like “see how this sony cybershot from 2005 has better video than this Panavision DXL2…” It really cures our GAS!
I love how you show that so many different cameras can be great options. I’ve tried a few over the past two years on my youtube channel (zv1, m50, gopro 8, osmo action 1, and now zv1f). My best videos have nothing to do with the camera. I look for simplicity and ease of use, which is why I moved to the zv1f. For stabilizing “walk and talk” vlogs, it’s hard to beat an action camera. For under 1000$ you can have two cameras (compact + action), cover several focal lengths, and never need to change lenses. I do outdoor content so changing lenses is a hassle and risk I don’t want to deal with.
I have a RX100-7, it is the longest lasting of the retractable lens cameras that I owned. The Canon Powershot S100 broke down after 14 months, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50 broke down after 23 months and Panasonic's warranty contractor in the USA refused to repair under warranty because I had abused it. I just used it a LOT. I highly recommend the RX100-7 or RX100-5a, they are worth every penny.
If you turn off the Electronic stabilization on the ZV-E10, it removes that crop you were seeing.
Nice!!! It’s not about having the latest and greatest. It’s about understanding your needs and which tool fulfills those needs. Thanks for the video.
RX100vii is an incredible camera for rock concerts! I got it just over a year ago as my go-to camera for concert videos when I'm not allowed to bring in ILC cameras! Much better than the Panasonic DMC-ZS100 I used before.
Every camera in here is good. G100 is underrated. You can take great video/pics with any camera in here. Whats important is how you compensate for ones weaknesses. For example a $500 G100 with a $300 (sale) Weebill will effectively be on par with a $900 camera that has internal stabilization. You can make any of these bodys work with the right know-how and set up!
The ZV-E10 is a great camera - just don't assume it's marketed how it should actually be used - it needs the 10-18 OSS to Vlog. I use it as a B cam on a gimbal for video shoots. I never turn on the stabilization with its severe 40% crop. The gimbal takes care of the bad stabilization and the tiny batteries since it provides power to the camera, so I can record 3 hours of 4k before I need to change batteries. I love the updated autofocus, the enhanced REC notifications and the flip-out screen - also the direct USB Streaming capability makes it a nice webcam. Usually, the lack of an EVF is a deal breaker for me, but for how I use it, it isn't an issue - but I do wish they had given it a pop-up like the RX-100.
I love making videos as a hobby and I'm really learning alot from watching your channel. Thank you so much.
Glad to hear it!
Love learning new things on your channel, this coming from someone who knows nothing about cameras or filming videos. Was contemplating the ZV E10 but seeing it compared side by side to the RX100vii it may be worth the long term investment to go with the RX100vii.
Markus is the best gear reviewer. Why? because he owns and used most of them for long periods of time.
great video! thanks for sharing! right now im deciding if i want a camera with the flip up screen or just get a monitor for my sony a6000 i had my eyes in that ZvE10 but not quite convince, this help a lot ! thanks again
Marcus...I would like to Stat shooting some nature video...some landscape birds, etc with the a6100. Would you use one of the stock picture profiles...or try to shoot flat and than try to color grade?
ua-cam.com/video/oZiW4PGURwk/v-deo.html
Really appreciate this video. Was reccommended the Rx100 Vii today and as someone who was looking for their first camera I was so confused as to how this could be more expensive than the ZV E10. Really Appreciate this comparison
I bought the Sony ZV-e10 camera with Sony 11mm f1.8 lens. I love this little camera, it does well for what I'm doing. I learned to understand the camera. I shoot in manual, all my videos are good to my expectations.
The A5100 was my first Sony Apsc Cam. It has XavcS Codec before the A6000 become this with a Update. Its a nice Cam, but the missing FN Button is a No Go. I sold this and buy the A6000. Sadly the A6000 has no Mic Input. Now i have the Zv E10 but in my Heart the A6000 was the best! So nice and easy to use. No Stuiped Picture Profile Setings... I miss the Cam.
Which camera of them do you suggest best for video live streaming for long videos more than hour ?
Dang this is straight to the point. No bullshit whatsoever.
Wow that was surprising! Can you test out the Zv1 m2? Thank you!
Great review of tinny cameras. Your channel is unique Markus, you provide us with a unique perspective about camera gear. Cheers!
I'm enjoying the (every body, every lens, every light, every video camera) reviews. I love photography too. Having fun!
Wow, great little comparo - I love the idea of a pocketable camera that takes great video. I thought maybe that RX could be the camera to replace my phone, for easy vlogging... then I saw the price! YIKES! That RX100 costs the same as what I payed for my second hand XT4. I could also get a brand new Panasonic G9 for less. A new I Phone, or Samsung would be similar in price too. I love the idea, but hate the price. Cheers Markus, always good to see your awesome vids :) Cheers, Cam from New Zealand.
It's better to turn off the active stabilization on zve10 because it's already cropping the video. That's why it lost to the comparisons when you crop the already cropped video.
Exactly 👍
Most people want and use stabilization, so people need to see what they'll be getting. Stabilization was also on for all the other cameras, even though they weren't the latest tech, except for the RX100vii which had stabilization on, and it still blew away the ZV-E10 with a smaller sensor.
@@MarkusPix try Sony Catalyst Browse 90%
Most people dont want to do that extra step of doing long renderings. They want to shoot and upload ASAP
@@MarkusPix true. I have also noticed that they dont even know what CB software is.
Only happened to trip up on your channel and what a relaxing reviewer…liked a subscribed👍
I felt all of these had better colours than the zv-e10 and the canons were much sharper. Great video as always
Great comparison video, thank you!
Keep having fun - it makes a good video when you do.
Great comparisons, and I loved seeing your wardrobe changes👍
I do like Markus’s approach to photography and vlogging. The camera is just a tool and if it does its job well, there is no need to invest a year’s salary on the latest body and the most expensive lenses. I have been using a Sony RX100iii for quite some time and a year ago I upgraded to a RX10iv to get more tele. My initial background was analog full-frame system cameras to produce slides. Today I produce, apart from stills, quite a lot of 1080p footage. As far as quality versus size is concerned the RX100 remains unbeaten. Both my two Sony units are an impressive proof of what can be done with a one inch sensor and a high-quality built-in zoom. The main shortcoming of the RX100 is the lack of a filter thread. But that is easy to fix.
Thanks Markus. Fully enjoy your video. Right to the point, no nonsense.
I literally have an A6300 on my desk right now. I still like it, even though I own an A6700 and A7RV. I don't like the flippy screen of the A6700. I gave my A5100 to my (4 year old) daughter. It was a great camera then and it still is.
I have a lot of respect for you. Keep doing what you are doing. Good luck.
Feel much better now. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video, and all the other work you do on UA-cam. I’m learning a lot as I’m getting back into photography. I’m looking for the perfect camera and although it wasn’t the subject of this video, I think the Canon M 200 is good for what I need. I would’ve never discovered that if you had not done this video. Thanks again!
Great! Sharing! Thank you for the timesaver. Will be getting a Vlog camera sooner or later.
Zve10 he's distinctive yellow cast comparing to every other camera on test. What the white balance set the same? What if you disable shake reduction, would the lens had that Sam as other wide angle view? I have Canon M50 mark I and am happy with the colours and ease of use. I am surprised that zve10 came out so bad in this comparison.
I think the main issue here is Sony marketed the ZV-E10 as a vlogging camera when it really is much better as a studio camera. You can get really great images and video out of it even without active stab if you’re willing to invest in some good lenses. I personally don’t use active stab on mine whether I’m shooting on the tripod or handheld outside.
great video as always markus
Thanks u va done it again Markus
Dude! Great video but I plunked down on a ZV-E10 for $300 and am selling my A6500 just to make a few hundred bucks and to have a more pocket-able camera. I always get a lot out of your opinions though. The only thing I wish Sony would do is make their microphone ports select-able from mic. to line level as I don't do any post work and would love to totally bypass their mic pre's to use my outboard audio like I do on my Fuji's.
ciao Markus! I need an update! who's the best camera for you between rx100vii and ZV E10 mark II?! ...I already own a ricoh gr iii. I use GRIII for taking photos, i would need a compatc camera for videos.
There is nothing that compares to the RX100vii.
Nothing.
Period.
End of Story.
Thank you Markus, I went the Canon Direction, and I'm ok with that.
Thank you Johnny Lawrence. Straight to the point.
ua-cam.com/video/zpE4F-sQ1L4/v-deo.html
Great video. The comparisons really helped. Thank you.
I’m happy for the efforts you put in everything you do thank you. And I’m happy with my canon m6 mark 2 and canon 70d yes I still used
Thank you so much for creating a vlog for all of us that love photography and videography with no technical knowledge and does not have big budget. I am a 60 year old with a D7200 with Tamron 16-300 and sigma 18-35. I come accross your vlog by searching small camcorder to use as point and shoot video that do not overheat. You make so much sense! I am sticking with my camera as I do not want to waste money. I am still deciding which camcorder to buy as they are expensive. But I kept a list of your recommendations, mini camcorders less than $1,000. Thank you!
Thanks for the video, the zve10 is an excellent little camera it’s got its flaws, but it’s very solid I would suggest to anyone that wanted it is willing to buy lenses and tweak their image to perfection
Thanks Markus for the inspiring words!
Love the channel , for the great vibes and cool content.
I love my RX100vii. But I've got to say that phone cameras are getting so good that that's all most people need, these days.
Not when you're in bright sunlight and can't see the damn screen. The RX has an awesome 2.3M viewfinder which has saved the day countless times. Oh yeah... and a 1" sensor, flip up screen, mic and headphne jack, HDMI output, 4;2:2 and can shoot almost a thousand frames per second.
All true! (But I did say "most people"). I also use my RX100vii as a webcam when videoconferencing. (As I said, I love it.)
Well, the RX100 allowed me to take shots my iPhone 13 would have never been able to do. Especially the zoom range, the full manual controls and the RAW images make a huge difference. I was able to zoom on wildlife and take portrait shots of my favourite singers while the performed in the evening on stage.
The only advantage of those 2 ZV models is the really great microphone. But as you mentioned in earlier videos a used zoom H1 plus audio syncing in premiere or free davinci resolve is even better and due to 24bit more forgiving.
I really enjoy your vídeos, thanks for share us!
Nothin but love for you Markus
I’m still tempted with the ZV-E10 as it is just within my budget but had to come back to this video to be sort of talked out of it again…I just don’t know what to do as I cannot afford to make a mistake.
Why didn’t you just turn the active stable organization off? That would be a true comparison. Anyway, thanks for the video and showing the strength of those cameras. I really love the RX 100 mark seven and all of the RX cameras.
That is indeed an insane amount of cameras. However, when you love something you got to love it fully. Eyebrows raising video. Thanks for the in-depth review.
I've been recording many videos with my RX100VA....clearly, I'm all set for small video imaging.
Thank you for your comparison.
I barely know what I am doing with cameras and yet I have a A73, A7S3 and the RX100m7. Every time I plan on heading out I agonize over my camera choices but almost always take just the RX100M7 especially when I have to carry the gear in the kayak, backpack or pack rafts. Having the Sony remote and the variable add on ND filter just makes it so versatile in a crazy small light weight kit thats a joy to use and looks great like you said. My only complaint ever is the batteries+cold(winter). Thanks for the video.
What do you need an ND filter for on the 100m7? It has shutter speeds up to 1/10,000 sec. I get beautiful dark skies in bright sunlight all the time with video and stills. I wouldn't take it Kayaking though, that 1000 dollar camera is not waterproof. I's use a DJI Osmo for that.
@@MarkusPix The ND is nice to have and adds nothing to the kit bulk. I take it kayaking and packraft but it's used on shore. The fact it takes up so little precious kayak space vs the a7s3 is awesome. Only negative is the batteries in the cold.
Always thanks for the reviews and comparisons.
Keep playing and sharing! Great video Markus, thanks!
Very informative.
Thanks again
This was the perfect video for me to see today. Thanks for reminding me that latest isn't always greatest. Much appreciated.
I've shot 350+ videos with my a5100s. I haven't seen a discernable reason to upgrade for my YT videos. No one has ever left a comment complaing about quality. My average cost for them is 260 each. If I need a serious video camera, I rent. The a5100 is great for vlogging.
I have just purchased the Sony rx10 mk4 as a hiking camera,I am very impressed.
Love your insights. You've taught me to really enjoy the camera, and not the hype!
You are awesome in all you do, my role model, teacher and inspirer
You should change the active stabilisation to off.
Great review, thanks!
This is what I needed to make final decision. I’m wondering why Sony is not releasing new version of rx1008!? However I tested it but for indoor shooting all of my photos became so noisy because of just iso 400! Is it good for outdoor only?
Another gem of a review with down to earth sensible ideas Markus :-) Thank you !
For sitting down still and using a tripod and Good Lightning , any camera will do well ... but for recording videos, when travelling, walking, sports videos, livestreaming, vertical recording , and so on , the ZV-E10 Rocks! ... with the Money you buy a RX100 you can buy a ZV E10 and a Nice f2.8 Sigma 18-50
Hey Markus I read your book! Instructions on a New Life. It was a few year ago now but it was on point! I really didn't know about this channel until I starting trying to bone up on my Sony EV Z-10. Wow man you broke my heart. Here I thought I was getting the baddest little camera out. But I really took my time getting to know this camera. I have had it for almost a year and finally I a am ready record the of my dogs pups so I had to learn how. Now I find out the Sony RX100 mark 7 crushes this one. Wow! But I am not sure I would have even considered a non changable lens set up out the gate. What I do know is I want the best blogging camera I can get at a reasonable price point. Oh Well if I start a UA-cam channel then that will be my next purchase.
Its still a good camera for most people. As long as it captures memories
@@MarkusPix Thats very true. I was kind of kidding, I don't take it all that seriously. But If the a opportunity arrises I will pick up that Rx.
Hi Markus, You should try the old Sony A5000, I think it is even smaller than the 5100 and I am still using mine for mainly macro shots with a Sigma 105mm lens via a commlite manual focus adaptor with extension tubes and am very impressed..
Great Video as usual..
All The Best
Gary..
I much prefer the zv-1 to the rx100 vii for vlogging. The f1.8 at the wide end is better than the f2.8 for a little bit of bokeh
Amazing what a good sets of lights will do instead of buying the latest and greatest. The one inch cameras are really underrated.
I agree good lighting do magic, even if you are taking pictures or videos with patatoe. Or vice versa bad lighting can ruin photos and videos from good camera.!
@@mikcnmvedmsfonoteka
Specially considering 99% of all consumed media on internet and TV are on avg 2 megapixels, 4k is just 12 megapixels
Hi! I have 2 ff cameras(nikon) and a bigger pocket camera canon g16 that I use a lot more nowadays because it's small and takes great photos. Have you tried it? Iam going to do my youtube videos with it and I like to ask you how do you measure light for videoshooting indoors? I don't have any lights for the moment but I will in the future. What do you recommend me low budget led lights that are small and powerfull? In a video you say you don't use wireless microphone, what do you use? Are you going to make a video on external screen to put on top of the camera for cameras that don't have flippscrean?
Se you on the next video 😀
Fantastic job! Thank you
Great comparison video.
Huh, I was paying attention to the details on your face when comparing the zve10 to the Canon m50 and m200. I have to say, at 1080p, the Canons produce magical color and detail on the face. I actually had to screen record at FHD resolution to confirm what I thought was happening, In playback, I did notice the eye details, stubble, hair and color just popped on the Canons. I see the M200 sold for $450 CAD around here, and for 1080p recording, I would suggest it based on what I see here. The ZVE10 is $1000 with kit lens and it's not an improvement at 1080p over the older Canons... weird
Great review. I'v also got a few pocket 1" sensor cameras and still use them eg Panasonic LX15, Sony RX100V etc. The LX15 with its 1.4 lens has great low light performance.
Re the pocketability. Yes, they are described as 'pocket size', but I've never found it practical or safe to actually put them in a pocket. With their weight and sharp corners and edges, they are almost like small bricks. Extremely uncomfortable.
Which camera would you use to record basketball games in low light? We play after sundown at our local park...any tips would be very helpful.
Depends on what quality you want and how long you are shooting. The best quality is Sony A7SIII which can almost shoot in total darkness, but its expensive and Canon R6. If you're shooting games, that means you're probably shooting non stop for over an hour, for which camcorders are better, but the quality is not the same as full frame of course. But because sensors are smaller on camcorders, they can run for hours without overheating and shutting down. Two affordable ones that are quite popular are featured in this video I did ua-cam.com/video/KmZH3rGjjlQ/v-deo.html
@@MarkusPix wow I didn't even notice you replied to me. Thanks for the tips. It's funny you mention that because the first video I saw of you was looking up camcorders. And it led me to your channel.
Great video Marcus, and the underlying theme is a great reminder albeit not so great for camera sales! We have the RX100 VII and love it, though we can hear camera noise if we use a shotgun microphone. Still considering a ZV E10, but largely for the ability to change lenses. It would be a studio or tripod based…camera stabilization turned off so no crop (other than the 1.5 for Sony APSC). Now I wonder.
Yes, I have many sony cameras and the zv-e10 produces the worst 1080, almost unusable to intercut with other 1080 footage or for live-streaming use. The zv-e10 is really only usable at 4k-24p, then it shines. But 1080, it's a no-go. I only use it for 24p shoots, then I re-encode to 1080 xavc-l to match my other files from other cameras, and it is very usable in this way. Plus it gives me a little crop room in post, if I want to take the time.
Studio use, the 1080 is bad out of the hdmi port, zv-1 is better 1080 but no good for 4k. For 1080 like the sony rx100 xii, the zv-1 works great for less money.
Love your channel and honest reviews!
I don't understand the rationale behind ZVE10. If I want an exchangeable lense camera I'll take my full frame A7iii. These small camera I'd rather have something that will fit in my pocket ZV1 or RX100
Very informative as always. Thank you sir
Now this is a camera review!
I have the a5100, a6400, m50mk I&II, and samsung nx 500 and they are great! as you said as long as the camera's fit you? why upgrade?
Sounds like I have a clone out there 😉
All I can say is WOW... the only thing I liked about the ZV-E10 was the bold color profile...
thank you soo much
