I'm a trained pilot with a commercial license, multi-engine and instrument ratings. And I'll never stop being amazed and delighted by the sight of huge machines plying the skies of this planet and beyond! We humans should be very, very proud of how far we've come, and how far we reach.
Newark 29 is a good bit more challenging than Boston 27. On EWR 29 you can't come straight in, you have to circle to land. On BOS 27 you come straight in, ILS if you like. On EWR 29 you must also be mindful of numerous obstructions, especially all the cranes at Port Newark.
AWESOME!! I have flown in and out of KEWR many times and I am from Sweden which means I would like to thank you for that SAS landing!! Also, thanks for the great shots of the World Trade Center!! Is that what they call short final?
I fly out of this airport fairly frequently. That short runway is 11-29. Very seldom used as nearly all inbound and outbound traffic (even the small commuter aircraft like United Express, American Eagle, etc.) use the parallel Runways 4L-22R or 4R-22L which are 11,000 feet and 10,000 feet respectively.
Due to noise restrictions, there are airports around the country which have longer runways, yet the landing threshold is relatively far from the end point of those runways....meaning that a 11,000 foot runway is reduced to 2/3 or less of that distance.
+Groyd If a wide-body like the 747, A330/340, or the 777 is using that runway to land, it is because there is a strong westerly headwind somewhere between 270 and 300 degrees. The headwind will slow down the plane very much on a 6,800-foot runway. Normally, 4R/22L is used for landings and 4L/22R for takeoffs.
Alicia Kasper Tilting up or raising the nose reduces the descent rate so that you don't hit the ground hard. An airliner on approach to land is flying at 2.5 miles per minute, descending at a rate of 700 feet per minute. Raising the nose increases the wing's "angle of attack", which makes it create more lift, reducing the descent rate. This is also why an airplane takes off when they raise the nose - it increases the angle of attack of the wing so that it makes more lift.
StratMatt777 Ah okay, thank you. I had always wondered that. I noticed it when I did my first spotting just a couple days ago at Newark Liberty Airport. I want to do it again maybe at JFK. Do you have a favorite airport you've spotted at?
Alicia Kasper I used to go to Seattle International Airport years ago before they removed the spotting park when they put the third runway in. I do all my spotting now from Cessna 172s and Diamond DA40 and DA42s out of Boeing Field as a flight instructor. ;) (I've got a couple videos on here) Seeing a C-17 or 787 air-to-air is very cool! :)
Great video, really good telephoto lens. How far are the planes from your location ? From 1 miles out to about 1/4 mile when they land would be my guess. Well done !!!
+james goez (LearjetGuy) In this case, the only reason for using this runway (Runway 29) is if winds are so strong that the crosswind limits for Runway 22L are too strong, or if there is too much backlog for Runway 22L.
BA WAS THE BEST HEADS DOWN OM THE SOUND OF THAT 777 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PS WHERE MORE AIRLINES FLY IN TO MY HOME CITY ANYONE KNOW ?
Inspired by this video, I took my Canon SX-60 HS (65x optical zoom) to the same garage roof-top you apparently went to when you filmed the above video. I was able to film for about 30 minutes before the Port Authority Police (politely) asked me to leave...citing "security." I talk about it a little in the description of my video, which I filmed today: ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=rgOrfo94ZeA Really like your work. It's very hard to keep these aircraft centered an in frame when you're panning at such high zoom levels.
Holger Zurwellen Hartsfield Jackson is the busiest because it's the home of Delta, the world's largest airline hub and as the previous poster said the only airport in the Atlanta region.

society is on the verge of collapse. not impressed
Exactly!
that SK A330 touchdown was smooth as silk!
Some stunning footage there man! Phenomenal video as usual! Lovely views of the skyscrapers as each plane is landing! Liked this one a lot =)
Thanks so much Ross! :D
Great catches! Incredible the heavies would use that runway :P
really nice video..... i see it ends with my icon :)
Awesome video man! Everything about this video is great :)
Hey what commerical planes do you think can land on a 6051 ft runway?
Great video!! I was born in Sweden so I really enjoyed that Scandinavian Airlines A330 touching down. I have flown with them several times.
Great compilation, love that approach view!
Thanks very much!
.
Cool EWR video, nice trafic and perfect approach !! Liked !
Nice video mate, this Friday (23rd October) I'm onboard SK909 to EWR from CPH, I'm really excited about it!
Runway 27 here at Boston is 7001 feet, and 747s and 777s land on there all the time.
Yes, EWR's 29 is 6726 feet long. Quite a challenge still, probably autobrake 3!
Yeah, one time I was planespotting, and a LH 744 landed of 27, and it slowed down with using only like 1/2 of the runway. Maybe even less.

Awesome camera work.....Love it!
Cool
Now that's an approach! Great video, impressive footage :)
Thanks man!!
Great approaches and backround

Yes - during the time of this video, 4L/22R was closed for construction so Newark was landing aircraft on 11/29 that summer.
Excellent compilation-amazing variety of airplanes!! Liked:) Nice to have the ATC!!
Thank you very much Steve! :D
Great spotting footage, with the skyline in the blackground. The 757 is really famous is USA.
Interesting... and fun to watch..... nice !
Thank you!
Impressive video! Nice edited! Good job my friend! :)
Thank you Kris! :)

Thank you for posting, I subscribed.
Great video!
Where exactly did you shoot this video from? I know it was Newark but from where at the airport? BTW, I’m from Sweden so thanks for that SAS A330!!
Niklas Enblom. Newark liberty International Airport.
Thanks for this amazing video. I love to see the planes land, but I live to far from an airport.
Very nice footage mate!
Thanks mate! :)
Long time no see mate! Subscribed again! Great video, thumbs up!
Awesome video Wes!!!
Thanks man! :)
great video ! I think the A330 SAS is the best ! :)
Ham Airport Surely. He maybe overshot though... ;-)
Cool how do 777 A330 747 land on 2000m runway. Seems really short for those large wide bodies!
+Groyd If a wide-body like the 747, A330/340, or the 777 is using that runway to land, it is because there is a strong westerly headwind somewhere between 270 and 300 degrees. Thanks!
It's like St Maarten!
Very nice, good footage!
Thanks Matt!
Is this what’s called short final?
What does WL stand for?
Great compilation! I do have a question though: why do they tilt upwards when they're about to land?
Alicia Kasper Tilting up or raising the nose reduces the descent rate so that you don't hit the ground hard.

Thank you! That is correct, good guess :) 1 mile out is right!
Hey hope it's no problem but would you mind letting us know where you spot at newark?
where is this shot from
I just had that landing in a 747-400. Winds were howling out of the west. Quite a downshift on touchdown! I uploaded it on UA-cam.
Awesome vido liked
Nice job! Too bad about the heat waves. Any interaction with the PAPD?
awesome footage !
nice view!
Is there only one star for that runway ?
Very nice filming!Well done!Big LIKE!Greetings!
Thank you!! :)
EXCELLENT!!
Very nice clip! So it's runway 29, right?
SHI YIN Thank you! Yes, you are correct :)
But could a 737 land at Courchevel?

G-ZAPX at the start? Isn't that an old EasyJet 757 before it was moved to Titan Airways?
Sure is!
Very nice mate!! Damn that runway is shorter than the runway here in Cayman!! :0
Yes, but it is longer than 1-19 at DCA:):)
***** Yep! Short runways are great - 1/19 at DCA is 7169ft, 11/29 at EWR is 6726 and GCM is 7021 :D
Thanks a bunch man!
I just looked at a DCA Airport diagram, and it lists 1-19 as 6,869 feet long.
***** Interesting - airnav.com lists it as 7169ft :P So many different answers - I guess they're all around the same! :D
B 777 the best.
In 2006 a 757 mistakenly Landed on the Taxiway that runs parralel to runway 29
it's really interesting because when I pass Newark airport I pace a Boeing jet as there landing or Taking off .
Best for last a British airways 777.
why do you insult a 777 by calling it as "humongous"???
Landing is the easy part, you can easily get into places where you can't get out of
Quite short... Great shots though
Yep- thanks!
i love my home airport go EWR!!!
Nice video, but to be honest, a 6800ft runway is nothing to be worried about, plenty of space to stop with minimal extra effort
+james goez (LearjetGuy) In this case, the only reason for using this runway (Runway 29) is if winds are so strong that the crosswind limits for Runway 22L are too strong, or if there is too much backlog for Runway 22L.
+james goez (LearjetGuy) Depends on your elevation above sea level and location in relationship to other airports.
look at the wtc in the background
I love it cause I live in no and united and delta is the best
BA WAS THE BEST HEADS DOWN OM THE SOUND OF THAT 777 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PS WHERE MORE AIRLINES FLY IN TO MY HOME CITY ANYONE KNOW ?
mrrockdaddy100 what's your home city
Titan 757 my second fav plane after jet2 757s anyone notice a trend here

The busiest Airport is still Atlanta Hatsfield
Holger Zurwellen Hartsfield Jackson is the busiest because it's the home of Delta, the world's largest airline hub and as the previous poster said the only airport in the Atlanta region.
***** You're incorrect! Try London pal, 146.6m passengers per year with it's 6-airports.
ahh...therwy 29 bridge visual
RIP USAIRWAYS
Republic E175 wins for prettiest landing.
Plenty of room. Even a 747 can handle 6800' if the load and fuel is right.
Did you catch Hillary Clinton cackling by on her broomstick?
767 subs?
Nope.
okey le chullo
Great video!
