There's actually a psychological aspect to this, particularly in the branch of social psychology as studied by Takahiko Masuda where the different mindsets is based on collectivist (Eastern) and individualistic (Western) culture.
Elisa Risconti I choose panda bananna. I think panda monkey and monkey bananna is related. while panda bananna is totally out of contex here so O choose it
For the flower question, I noticed B shared 4/4 Stems, but A shared 3/4 of the same Petals, A shared 3/4 single circle flower head, and A shared 3/4 Leaves. So by overall compatibility to either A or B group our flower shares more with A. It was only the Stem that B won out on but each flower had 4 components to it. So fits A more.
It doesn't change anything based on the color of your skin. It has a lot to do with family values, closeness of the family and their wants and needs; plus it could be that certain aspects of your life (intuitively) are more traditional. Many Latin families have a similar hierarchy of family unity. As well as some of my Russian and Somalian friends also have similar traditions as many Asians.
I thought of it as follow the leader so they were following the person in the front of the line and if you were the leader then you would be facing the other way
I learned all this in my cultural psychology course! In general, asians are much more group oriented while westerners are more individualistic, and this mindset extends to how we think. Asians take the environment into account when they examine things, while westerners focus on the main focal point of a scene.
I got confused and didn't notice the change in backround lol. Other than that although I have lived in America all my life apparently my mindset is almost entirely Asian mindset
Thanks guys - it's intriguing! I'm a British-born Chinese and went down the route of being a designer so I tend to look at things holistically and make connections all the time which makes me Asian yet the individualism part is what makes me Western - scored 3/5 for Asian, unexpected!
These tests were performed and I saw it on another youtube channel maybe discovery or national geographic: According to them Asians have culture and philosophies of interaction between each other like Everything is connected, interdependent and has cause and effect Western philosophy is more about individuality Like if want to explain science according to ancient chinese they will make concept of "qi" i.e. energy to interact with another whereas western philosophies tend to look at the property of the body A balloon flies because it has lighter weight so it levitates(in western philosophy) whereas for eastern it flies because the air outside is blowing it(interaction) So its all about cultural perception
I'm an American of European descent. Four of my answers showed an Asian mindset and one showed a Western mindset. I've never lived in Asia and have not been around Asian people very much except one friend in junior high and some of my students when I was a teacher and counselor, so I don't know why I would have an Asian mindset! Given the examples, though, I definitely do prefer the Asian interpretations of the questions. Very interesting.
Very interesting. I've lived and grown up in Asia all my life, and have only been to a Western country once (and only recently too), but I scored 3 Western and 2 Asian. Thanks for the added explanation at the end. It really helped explain things.
+JasonRobert2011 emmmm how?Idk I was raised nd born in China nd I have a very American first name......... That is just personal choice, personally I don't think that means anything
4 asian and 1 western... what...? I'm Dutch :O Also, for the people, I had no first and then yes. Because he seemed like a fake smile at first, and then he became a bully so he was then enjoying himself xD
Also, I answered 'no' and 'no' to the "is that guy happy" question. Anyone else? IMO you can never tell if someone's happy from them seeming happy or smiling on the outside. They could just be polite or try to seem nice but they could actually be lonely, depressed, desperate, etc on the inside. I'm probably overthinking this though.
Haha, actually the panda - banana kinda makes sense... you have the three pictures set in a triangular shape and the panda and the banana are the base of the triangle. I am 100% white. Grew up in Kansas, the very center of the United States. I got 3 points Asian and 2 Western. Lol. On the spaceship one I picked A as the head but I picked it because I thought of it as the front of the line and that I, as the viewer, was at the end of the line... because as the viewer if B was the front then it appears as that I must have just cut in line... I don't know if that makes any sense at all to anyone other than myself. Haha.
See I thought that the two lines were like an alien ray thingy that sucks up people, but instead it was the mothership sucking up the little ships. so the mothership is basically an aircraft carrier.
BTW the Hp Office Jet 8610 and probably also it's replacement 8720 can print color for around two cents a page and is an amazing buy. Pays for itself. The cartridges are more expensive but a better buy. I work at an Ink shop and I've been brain-washed to think about these things.
The boy question. I chose no then yes because I thought the boy in the middle was trying to blend in and that is why he is trying too hard to smile until he is showing his teeth. Then in the next picture I thought he did something terrible and he enjoyed watching others suffer.
I have lived my entire life in the United States, but four of the five questions indicated that I have an Asian mindset. I have been to Asia (China) and given my frequent level of confusion while there, I truly doubt I have an Asian mindset.
Mar_.k Russia divides in two parts: European part and Asian part. So, basically it depends on which area you live in. I presume that Russian people overall somewhere in the middle if we talking about mindset
Personal experiences make a huge difference in this. Just because you are Asian ethnically doesn't necessarily mean you would answer "East". I got 3/5 East, but I have no Asian DNA. However, I have studied eastern philosophies and practiced meditation.
I am a Southern Californian White male, and I got all Asian, except the basketball smiling guy.. Interesting, I enjoyed the harmony of the wooden cylinder & brain-height of the spaceships coming down!
I got 4 Asian and 1 Western (the one with the smiling guy). I am western . . . but I have lived in Korea for 4 year . . . and teach Korean students, so I hear their reasoning for things all the time.
1. A - Asian 2. B - Asian 3. A - Western 4. Idk (maybe yes) - Western 5. Monkey & Banana - Asian My reasons were: 1. Cuz flower needs to be in category 2. Cuz same, wood better be with woods 3. Cuz A should be ahead 4. He looked like mocking But maybe he was faking. (Maybe I didn't get the question) 5. Cuz monkey is keen more to banana, Cuz question was tricky, not said "related". If I got it as "related" I'd choose two animals.
West = 4 East = 2 For the first one I kept changing between A and B and only ended on B because there was one flower that had similar petals and the same stems, and one had the same leaf; that's my reasoning. I'm from Australia and love learning about Asian cultures, particularly Japanese language and culture, so I'm not too surprised that I would've been pretty even since I kept swapping my answer for the first question. The wood cylinder looked more like the wood block, the farther away spaceship was leading the others away, he has a smile and his eyebrows are raised in both pictures so he must be happy, and as for the last one, I figured monkeys like bananas, so that was my answer; have you ever heard of pandas eating bananas or seen a panda and monkey together? And that's how my mind works. That was kinda fun, if a bit silly; everyone is different based on how they were raised and the people and cultures around them, so you can't really narrow it down to one or another mindset, especially with not many questions. Still, as I said, kinda fun.
I got 3 eastern and 2 western and I'm as white as they come. I think part of the reason for my results is because I spent time in the military and was raised by a father who also spent time in the military so uniformity is drilled into my subconscious leading me to get eastern on the first two questions. On the third question I think I got western because I've been exposed to more western art than eastern art.
It's basically deciding whether you're Classification Oriented or Relation Oriented. Guess I'm a relation oriented person after all. But don't know if it has something to do with my psychology background.
I picked stuff that show I am "Asian" but the reasons why I picked them tended to be for more Western reasons. The "which is in front" spaceship question I used perspective... but I chose the one closest to me... because I was assuming the ships were coming toward me. ie and Asian answer for very western reasons. All the other stuff I pretty much chose for Asian reasons... but I thought when i was doing it that I was being stereo typically white. The only one where I was off the wall was I thought the smiling guy surrounded by smiling people was unhappy because he looked phony. The smiling guy surrounded by angry people I thought was truly happy because he didn't give a crap what they thought. I'm half Chinese but was raised mostly by my white mother. I definitely grew up white... but I watched a lot of TVB and spent a lot of time in the Chinese community among people who didn't even speak English. I bet a lot of westerners could possibly get all "Asian" answers though.
Hi, can you pls give me the links to the previous videos? It doesn't show the annotations and I've already tried different browsers. I'd like to see the one in the top right corner with the two western guys. Chris Chappel and I forgot the name of the other. I'm curious to see all of you together ;-D
I got 3 Asian and 2 Western. I'm half Iranian, so yes, I am Asian. It's always funny that the Middle Eastern side of me comes out more, even though I live in the U.S.
I am Indian... and I got 1 western and the rest was Asian... also, these tests need not be 100% true because the sample audience it may have been tested out on may have responded differently when compared to the actual audience that is trying it out... so, it does not necessarily represent all people and hence does not need to be fully accurate... that's just my thought
I think these questions came from the book The Geography of Thought that discusses a lot of research on Asian and Western thought. Many of the studies the researchers used had questions like these.
I got 3 Asian. I'm not surprised since I grew up having a lot of Asian friends even though I'm an American mutt. I grew to love the Asian culture more when I found out I had a drop of Asian blood from mum side.
Got all eastern, but I'm from the south. In our region, we have a more community and clan oriented people than the rest of America, so that's not surprising. Louisiana is basically Vietnam lite
I lean towards the asian mindset and i'm western?
same haha
I did too lol.
same! 4/5! XD
Same for me lol
same lol 3 asian 2 western
I got almost all western besides the last one. but I'm Asian. I have dishonored my family.
Lol i'm nowhere close to being Asian but I got all Asian except 1
Lol i'm nowhere close to being Asian but I got all Asian except 1
Lol i'm nowhere close to being Asian but I got all Asian except 1
Me too :)
same lol
I am 100% born and bred Vietnamese. I got 5/5 western. My family has disowned me..
Happi Fix Aww. That's sad. I got 4 Eastern and 1 Western. I'm Vietnamese. Pure bred :)
Yami Cats want to be my frwen?
Happi Fix Sure, :)
Yami Cats what's your name Frwen?
Darn rip
There's actually a psychological aspect to this, particularly in the branch of social psychology as studied by Takahiko Masuda where the different mindsets is based on collectivist (Eastern) and individualistic (Western) culture.
It really has to do with the emphasis from Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism vs. Aristotle.
Why did some people choose the panda-banana? I see no connections between the two.
Elisa Risconti I choose panda bananna. I think panda monkey and monkey bananna is related. while panda bananna is totally out of contex here so O choose it
I said Panda/Banana because they are both in one way or another yellow
Honestly i saw panda banana because they were both on the bottom.
I said panda-banana because pandas are my favorite animals and bananas are my favorite fruits lmao..
Elisa Risconti because people like random
I got all of them Asian and I'm Hispanic, lol
Lol, me too 😂😂
Me too, I'm super suprised
Me too, and I'm Italian. As my parents... lol*2.
(3 asian 2 western!)
Me too I'm Latina
I only got 1 western and I'm Latin
For the flower question, I noticed B shared 4/4 Stems, but A shared 3/4 of the same Petals, A shared 3/4 single circle flower head, and A shared 3/4 Leaves. So by overall compatibility to either A or B group our flower shares more with A. It was only the Stem that B won out on but each flower had 4 components to it. So fits A more.
You could say the panda-banana would be mindset that tries to see the humor in the situation :D.
Thank u for bringing that out. I never thought I was humorous. But TIME can absolutely change anything.
i got banana - panda so
i geuss it depends what you see first / what closest
Black American... Asian mindset. I guess to many anime.

segazora I got the same result and I'm also Western but not American
Lola Blake b

Many Latin families have a similar hierarchy of family unity. As well as some of my Russian and Somalian friends also have similar traditions as many Asians.
For the UFO question I thought of it as the UFOs coming towards the viewer therefore B would be in front and A behind.
I thought of it as follow the leader so they were following the person in the front of the line and if you were the leader then you would be facing the other way
+NightShadeDragon _ same!
I learned all this in my cultural psychology course! In general, asians are much more group oriented while westerners are more individualistic, and this mindset extends to how we think. I got 5 Asian & 1 westerner. I'm African.
elliot malonga Lol
I belong to the African Diaspora and I got the same result.
so you are none of them
Okay first off, Im Latina born in the States, and interesting enough I have an Asian mindset. Nice!
I got almost all Asian as a westerner, guess my Asian girlfriend has had a bit of an influence on my mindset 😊
I got panda banana to... lmao
same I dont know what I was thinking
it is funny sorta lol
same LOL
First the panda caught my attention because it was so cute, then the banana because I love food. Thats my reasoning.
i just thought it because panda rhymes with bananna
I wrote "no" and "no" for the fourth question...
me too !!
I got confused and didn't notice the change in backround lol. Other than that although I have lived in America all my life apparently my mindset is almost entirely Asian mindset
I also wrote no and no because it looks like he is fake smiling because he is taking a picture lol
who hurt you
you are an alien
Apparently I am a Westerner with a 3/5 Asian mindset. 😂
Thanks guys - it's intriguing! I'm a British-born Chinese and went down the route of being a designer so I tend to look at things holistically and make connections all the time which makes me Asian yet the individualism part is what makes me Western - scored 3/5 for Asian, unexpected!
These tests were performed and I saw it on another youtube channel maybe discovery or national geographic:
According to them
Asians have culture and philosophies of interaction between each other like
Everything is connected, interdependent and has cause and effect
Western philosophy is more about individuality
Like if want to explain science according to ancient chinese they will make concept of "qi" i.e. energy to interact with another whereas western philosophies tend to look at the property of the body
A balloon flies because it has lighter weight so it levitates(in western philosophy)
whereas for eastern it flies because the air outside is blowing it(interaction)
So its all about cultural perception
3 asian 2 west im not even a bit Asian
same here :-/
same haha
Same haha :D
ditto
Same here - I am polish O.o
"Oh it's growing!" - that was my reasoning haha
For number 4 I put a No and No. Is there something wrong with me?
There's nothing wrong about you with choosing that. The answer booklet is just wrong that it can't provide feedback to your answer.
I said Yes and Yes. so apparently I dont fit the mold either
+Marion Storms you're western for that question. Thats what she says at 4:40ish
same lol
Maybe you are unconsciously depressed and reflecting your feelings on that boy in the picture.
I'm an American of European descent. Four of my answers showed an Asian mindset and one showed a Western mindset. Very interesting. I've lived and grown up in Asia all my life, and have only been to a Western country once (and only recently too), but I scored 3 Western and 2 Asian.
Thanks for the added explanation at the end. It really helped explain things.
i got 4 asian and I'm from Europe^^

Me too, 3 asian vs 2 western but I live in Asia so maybe I got influenced by this culture? ....

I'm Asian but I'm more western that I am Asian according to this test
I took the test too. And I think it worked for me. I always felt like my mindset is more Eastern, and the results were 4 East, 1 West for me
I’m American and I teach Chinese students. I grew up speaking Spanish with my Cuban neighbors and friends. I got half East and half West.
4 asian and 1 western... what...? I'm Dutch :O Also, for the people, I had no first and then yes. Because he seemed like a fake smile at first, and then he became a bully so he was then enjoying himself xD
What if your from the South?

Also, I answered 'no' and 'no' to the "is that guy happy" question. Anyone else?
IMO you can never tell if someone's happy from them seeming happy or smiling on the outside. They could just be polite or try to seem nice but they could actually be lonely, depressed, desperate, etc on the inside.

Haha.
Yes, I thought the same thing, B shouldn't be the front because if you're standing there then you must be the 'front' of the line.
See I thought that the two lines were like an alien ray thingy that sucks up people, but instead it was the mothership sucking up the little ships. so the mothership is basically an aircraft carrier.
Lol I guess I'm Asian now..
I'm slavic and got asian xD
me too lol I got 4 Asian and 1 Western
same here
i'm in the same boat.
Me as well Slavian
My result: Asian,Asian,Western,Western,Asian
There's something about this, I'm Polish and got most answers Asian. But aren't the Slavs more Asian than Western anyway?
For the UFO one I picked A because it's at the top. Usually the high ranked one is literally higher up.
Shannon Marvella I got no no😂😂
You know you're too deep into kpop when you have an Asian mindset but you're Western

I have lived my entire life in the United States, but four of the five questions indicated that I have an Asian mindset. I have been to Asia (China) and given my frequent level of confusion while there, I truly doubt I have an Asian mindset.
i am asian born and raised in a western country and i got 4 asian and 1 western lol, i guess heritage will never change
I got 5/5 Asian mindset and I'm a westerner XD
Apparently I'm asian and i'm a white English person ... well
That Asian girl is so cute!
Johnny Matthew lmao which one
Both of them actually. Most Asian girls are attractive...they have a gift.
Exact 50/50. Now I know why I'm constantly arguing with people.
2 Asian.. 3 Western. . I'm American with Irish, Scottish, Italian decent. I have never been to Asia. This test means nothing but was still fun to do.
i got all Asian and i'm from northen europe, real origin is east Africa fyi
I got all asian even tho' i'm russian....Well Russia is in asia too but I live in Germany so ... how xD
Mar_.k Russia divides in two parts: European part and Asian part. So, basically it depends on which area you live in. I presume that Russian people overall somewhere in the middle if we talking about mindset
As soon as I saw the title I knew the weeaboos would flock to the video and comment that they had an eastern mindset...
Personal experiences make a huge difference in this. Just because you are Asian ethnically doesn't necessarily mean you would answer "East".
I got 3/5 East, but I have no Asian DNA. However, I have studied eastern philosophies and practiced meditation.
My mother was raised in korea but we are white and I've lived in the USA my whole life. I answered all the questions with eastern perspective
my God those girls are fine
Thirsty?
And my god those boys looks stupid
They look stupid because they're not thinking about the QUIZ...

same
4-1 asian!!!!!
same
I got all Asian
I am a Southern Californian White male, and I got all Asian, except the basketball smiling guy..

a - asien
b - asien
a - western
yes yes - western
ape and banana - asien
I have the EXACT SAME answers xD I'm German ^-^
So you have "a little bit" asian mindset lol
Same answers and also German xD
Madelaine Thomsen I'm Danish and I got the exact same thing😂😂 I think Danes are more Asian than we think we are😂😂
Not weird, I got the exactly same answers as you. It just means that we got the "correct" answers.
I didn't know I was Asian who knew..?? !! 🤔 I should tell my parents there not really Latino.
I got 3 Eastern, 1 Western, and.... the panda-banana?? I'm American lol!
Panda banana are cute
I got Eastern all the way across. no wonder I stick out in Wyoming
Felicia is the funniest girl, awesome personality!
when i saw Felicia, I just wanted to say bye.
why? she is so darn cute.
it's a reference from Friday movie "Bye, Felicia"
1. A - Asian
2. B - Asian
3. A - Western
4. Idk (maybe yes) - Western
5. Monkey & Banana - Asian
My reasons were:
1. Cuz flower needs to be in category
2. Cuz same, wood better be with woods
3. Cuz A should be ahead
4. He looked like mocking
But maybe he was faking.
(Maybe I didn't get the question)
5. Cuz monkey is keen more to banana,
Cuz question was tricky, not said "related".
If I got it as "related" I'd choose two animals.

Okay I'm a Native American, this is strange weird, but I did the text too, I got 3 on east and 2 on west, so what's does that mean?
I am afro canadian of Guyanese heritage and I got 4 Asian and 1 western. ???
I got 3 asian and 2 western. I'm not even a little Asian but I love the cultures.
I got mostly Asian -- I'm a Westerner (Mexican American) and completely individualistic in my worldview.
I picked stuff that show I am "Asian" but the reasons why I picked them tended to be for more Western reasons. The "which is in front" spaceship question I used perspective... but I chose the one closest to me... because I was assuming the ships were coming toward me. ie and Asian answer for very western reasons. Hi, can you pls give me the links to the previous videos?
It doesn't show the annotations and I've already tried different browsers.
I'd like to see the one in the top right corner with the two western guys. Chris Chappel and I forgot the name of the other.
I'm curious to see all of you together ;-D
How if for the third ques is no and no?
I had almost all Asian except for the third question yet I'm a Canadian of mainly Franco-Scandinavian descent.
I do have a Chinese ancestor, 4 generations back but basically born and bred western. I scored 4/1 Asian.
I got 4/5 Asian mindset. I am a Westerner (from Europe). But I do love Asian culture and often wish I'd live in Asia, so...
This was cool! Apparently, I have more of an Eastern (Asian) mindset cuz I got 3 Asian & 2 Western. And I'm from America lol!
I'm westerner and I end up W3 E2. That was close, but I make it. Should I be happy how?
I got 3 Asian and 2 Western. I'm half Iranian, so yes, I am Asian. It's always funny that the Middle Eastern side of me comes out more, even though I live in the U.S.
I got almost all Asian except I thought he was happy both times 😂
I got all 5 western. And I am Chinese living in China. It means the thinking patterns do exist, but is the opposite?
I am Indian... and I got 1 western and the rest was Asian...
also, these tests need not be 100% true because the sample audience it may have been tested out on may have responded differently when compared to the actual audience that is trying it out...
so, it does not necessarily represent all people and hence does not need to be fully accurate...
that's just my thought
I'm English an got 3 Asian and 2 western! Probably why im drawn to eastern culture and music.
Western 3 asian 2 . Im completely Vietnamese ( but Im studying abroad in Australia so ...)
I got 4 Asian and the "yes and yes" threw me out LOL
Got all eastern, but I'm from the south. In our region, we have a more community and clan oriented people than the rest of America, so that's not surprising. Louisiana is basically Vietnam lite
im split 2 ways, but i did no then yes for question 4, not yes then no so.... tie?
I grouped the panda and the banana too for some reason, and I ended up with exact the same results as Allen. :D
