Man, hats off to you. Even in the best conditions I go for hydrated meals in the mountains. That looks delicious. Another great outing. Soulo did well.
Nothing wrong with a dehydrated meal! I typically cook because I enjoy it and it gives me something to do. Especially in the autumn and winter months when it gets dark so early! Love the Soulo. Appreciate you watching! ATB

Trangier cooking is the best, and it brought back so many great memories of going camping and cooking myself. PS that coffee pod is brilliant! Approve!
Love the thoughtful comment Tom! I tried listening to Hosanna Mantra and it does go nicely. I sometime like to add subtle music in the background of some of my videos. Especially in the hiking segments. I’ve lived here in the UK going on 3 years now and I still make the mistake of saying pants instead of trousers sometimes. 😂 I have had some particularly awkward conversations and looks at my children’s school which elicited a good laugh. Glad you liked the cooking. I enjoy cooking at home so it’s nice to relax and cook a nice meal when I’m out for a camp as well! It’s also always fun to use my cooking gear. I love the trangia 27. Such a good cook kit. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment! All the best!
Yes having the right equipment and a bit of experience definitely goes a long way in allowing you to have a great time even when the conditions are less than ideal! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ATB
It always amazes me that people make a big deal of being able to start a fire with a bit of moss and two twigs and go out of their way to say how close nature they feel -and then use their mobile phone/sat nav/high-tech knife/high tech tent/hi-tech clothing/high-end cooking tools, food and utensils etc. . Oh that I could survive with such primitive tools
@@michaelkenny8540 haha yeah I get that! I think most people that practice those techniques though are just curious to learn other more primitive methods and just have fun, myself included. Personally just going out for a peaceful camp, coffee or cook in the woods/mountains is the main goal 😀. I do find that having that knowledge really does help when something else may not work or if you forget something at home! For instance, knowing how to use a compass and a map, properly is a great skill, and depending on where you’re going, a life saving skill. Knowing how to use one will never keep me from leaving my Garmin GPS at home though 😂😂 . Have a great weekend Michael! ATB
Great camp even though weather was bad but sometimes that makes us feel really alive and hey life is good when your belly gets good food.what a feast you had ,really great. Thanks
Agreed! I enjoy a good view and being able to relax outside the tent but the camps in these conditions really are fun! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment! ATB
Definitely not ideal having to put wet boots back on in the morning, but at least the water didn’t soak through the socks until I was nearly back to the car. Thanks for watching Gillian! Have a great week!
💯 The BEST feeling! 😂 I’ve even set up a tent in the back garden on a rainy day just to sit in it with my kids and listen to the rain. Love the sound of rain on a tent!
AVVENTURA MERAVIGLIOSA DAVVERO E' COMPLIMENTI, ANCHE IL LUOGO È STUPENDO, NON VEDO ALBERI PERCHE'? CIAO AMICO MOLTO BELLA L' AVVENTURA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Molti degli alberi sono stati sfortunatamente abbattuti nel Regno Unito a partire dal Medioevo. È un peccato, ma il paesaggio ha ancora una bellezza naturale unica. grazie per aver guardato e aver dedicato del tempo a commentare!
It is always fun to get the full experience within the elements on a camp like this. I mainly appreciate having the paths and mountains to myself as not many people go out in these conditions. Thanks for watching!
Definitely challenging conditions but always fun to experience the mountains like that. I love my trangia 27 cook set. I refer to it as my mini kitchen! Appreciate you watching! ATB
Yes, I was very happy to have brought the Soulo. These are the conditions when it’s really nice to have a tent you know you can pitch without worrying about the inner getting wet! Thanks for watching Tony! ATB
Another great video. The Lake District is strangely compelling in a barren sort of way, maybe it is the elements battering you all the time? There are some areas like this out here in Oregon…but we also have snow capped mountains and tons of trees…😜 with the water table basically at surface level, how do you dig cat holes to perform necessary functions? Or, are you super hard core LNT? I am wondering why your viewer base is not a lot bigger, the production value of these videos is excellent…
There is a strange beauty to the Lake District. I really enjoy the rock formations and contours of the land. Reminds me of being above the tree line with a bit more green. Fortunately there are plenty of woodlands to explore further south where I live when I want to be among the trees. The lack of trees here definitely contributes to dealing with the elements head on a bit more but I’m enjoying it. As for using the toilet I honestly just try to hold it until I can get to a proper bathroom otherwise I have a WAG bag with me. And if the conditions are horrendous outside the tent I can comfortably use it protected from the elements. I don’t worry too much about subscribers numbers. I love camping and photography so these are just my hobbies and I would be doing them anyways. Thats why I prioritize family and only make videos when I can. Which right now is unfortunately only once a month. But this still remains fun for me and that’s the most important thing 👍. Really appreciate the comment! ATB
I enjoyed this, it's the first time I've seen someone use a Trangia inside a tent, I suppose if you only use the bare minimum of fuel it's ok. Great meal!
Yeah never a good idea to cook in the tent but when the weather is like this I generally have to. Luckily the trangia 27 has a very stable base but you still need to be extremely careful 👍. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
hahaha I know it wouldn't be a comfortable trip because of your wet clothing and gears. But I have to say this video is AWESOME! I like camping in grim weather. Thank you for filming this. Great work! Please keep them coming.
Thanks for watching! I did miss not having those spare long johns for the first couple hours. But wearing quick drying materials and knowing that you can dry clothing in your sleeping bag definitely helps! I appreciate the support! ATB
Thanks man! It got a bit crazy but these kind of camps really make you appreciate the good weather and nice views when you can get them! Thanks for watching! ATB
i love your adventurous cooking! i would never have thought of going to those efforts while camping. Has made me rethink things. Though i tend to make food in my slow cooker at home and dehydrate it.
Thanks! I really enjoy cooking so it’s nice to make a meal on these single night camps. Dehydrating your own food sounds great! I’ve only used my dehydrator to make beef jerky. I’ve yet to try it will a full meal. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. ATB
Yes you are correct! I actually get myself confused now everytime I set it up because I read somewhere years ago that when asked, Petra said it didn’t matter if the red pole went first or last so I started just not worrying about it. However, after the black label version came out I also then heard her specify that it needed to be put last as the booklet says 😂. So yeah, I usually do put it last but in this instance I confused myself as I was setting it up but in these conditions I really wasn’t bothered to fix it. Appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment! Have a great weekend!
@@ThatCampingLad 👍 it’s something I definitely need to remember though. Just in case it does place any extra strain on some of those pole attachments. All the best man!
Oh, man. Yeah, my Keen's started leaking about a year in. I think the waterproof liner in the boot, cracks after a while where the toes bend. Still love them though, since I have a wide foot. That tent is amazing, but not as amazing as that meal. 😋😘🙂👍🏕️🌬️🌪️
My Keens have been so great for so long, I never really thought about the liner wearing out. I will have to conduct a little experiment at home. If they are done I will most likely just get another pair though 👍😀. Once I find something I really like, I tend to stick with it. Particularly with outdoor clothing and shoes. The Soulo is an incredible tent and this Christmas I will be adding another tent to my Hilleberg collection courtesy of my amazing wife. You will definitely see that in future videos. (😀 very excited!) I was very happy with my chicken ramen! Such an easy but tasty meal. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment Brian! All the best
Nice. They eventually dried but that’s definitely a new one I haven’t heard before. I’ve dried damp clothing at home with an actual iron on an ironing board so I suppose it would work. I would be a little worried I might burn something though. Very interesting though 👍. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
Thanks! It was pretty brutal on this trip. Definitely nice to get out of the wind and rain into the tent. Makes for a cozy camp though once your inside though! Appreciate the comment👍 ATB
This is the fourth one and I’ve really enjoyed them but could you please shoot one with good weather not least the reason being that we could enjoy the scenery much more
UA-cam may just be recommending the terrible weather ones because that’s what you’ve watched. Check my channel page 👍. My three most recent camps I had pretty good weather 😀. I also have videos here in the Lake District where I get to fly the drone and show more of the scenery. Really appreciate you watching my older videos and taking the time to comment! ATB
Sorry, I have always cooked to taste so I am absolutely terrible at following recipes or measuring anything. I am trying to get better though. I will make sure I take precise measurements next time I make my ramen and will update the description of the video. Many of the ingredients were only around tsp or 2. Really appreciate the comment 👍😀
It was a really nice spot. I will definitely be back in better visibility so I can get a view of the other mountain peaks in the distance. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I agree, these trips can definitely be the most memorable. This tarn is just behind, Sprinkling Tarn. It’s a really nice little spot! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Yeah lots of crystal clear pools of water in these mountains. However, I still use a filter because there are tons of sheep, and you’ll find their droppings everywhere. I have even found a poor sheep that died in one of these tarns. Thanks for watching!
Yeah man be careful! I got cryptosporidiosis once from infected water. It turned me into a human fountain for 2 weeks and the parasites stay in your body forever. My girlfriend was even hospitalised because of high fever and dehydration. Not fun at all.
The reason that meal was so tasty is because you used the secret ingredient that Asians use that most people don't. Oyster Sauce. A little drizzle of sesame oil at the end would also add a little umami to the dish. It looked yummy though. That wind and rain was nasty Great video again. 😊
Thanks! I’m actually not sure about the weight. I stopped weighing my pack long ago. I always stay under the 20% rule though. This pack is only 45 L which makes it hard to really overpack it and carry anything that’s too heavy. If I had to guess, I’d say with this gear it’s around 25-26 lbs.
I have unfinished business with this tarn! I also got wet through last time I was there and my sleeping bag wasn’t in a dry bag so bailed and slept in my van 😂
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I went back over the Easter weekend and took my 15yr old daughter to seathwaite fell. We were camping with the rest of the family down at Wasdale NT campsite.
Hey. Great video. Looked like a great decisiomn to go with Plan B. And that meal was like something out of Masterchef! Fair play to you. I'm a boil in the bag man myself. Real Turmat is especially good. But that hot meal of yours is next level stuff altogether!! With the sock dilemma you asked yourself at the end, would you not consider leaving a complete set/change of dry clothes in the car? Regards Wadi.
Thanks! I will usually use a dehydrated meal if I am going on a camping trip while traveling or if I am going on a multi day trip. Real Turmats are awesome! Definitely worth the cost in my opinion! Two pairs of socks usually does me fine but after this trip I will definitely be leaving a third set in the car! I went ahead and just kept the dry socks on and they remained dry in my boot until nearly back to the car but I had to go through a section of the footpath which was underwater by morning … so alas they soaked through again 🤣 so yeah the third set would have been nice! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! All the best
Thanks! The Soulo is a fantastic tent, you’re gonna love it! In this video I am using the Trangia 27 cook set. It’s incredibly versatile. The knife I am using is the Knafs Co. Lander. I have a decent collection of pocket knifes and I switch which one I use often but I typically like to cook with them because the blades more slicy than my fixed blade bushcraft knives. Thanks again for watching the video taking the time to comment!
Hi there. Just curious, does putting the burner in the kettle not affect the taste of the water ?. Great video by the way 👍 P.S. that food looked so good
Thanks it was a really nice meal on a cold rainy evening 👍. Putting the burner in the kettle has not affected the taste of the water. However, I am certain that my Trangia does not leak. I have heard from some that there’s has. So if you put it in the kettle, it’s best to keep it in a container. If you buy a Trangia cook set it actually comes in a plastic bag just in case it does develop a leak. Appreciate the comment! ATB
Just tried your recipe. Absolutely fabulous!! Thanks again. Just out of interest did you use equal proportions of spices in the spice mix? ie 1 tea spoon of everything?
👍 glad you liked it! If I remember correctly they were mostly equal portions and some 1/2 portions. I’m terrible at measuring. I usually make a large batch and then just add the mix to the broth to taste whenever I make ramen. I’d like to get a website up and running and actually really start measuring things and put it up on a website so others can try the recipes!
I would but I really can’t give you specific measurements as I have yet to properly measure out everything myself. I typically cook to taste. I added a list of ingredients in the video but if memory serves it was around a tsp for each of the spices used to create the broth but I can’t be certain. Now that I’m happy with the recipe though, next time I make it I will start to measure things so that it is consistent. The majority of the process is pretty straightforward as seen in the video. It’s really making that broth tasty that can be the tricky part. Sorry if that wasn’t much 😔. Really appreciate you watching and I would still encourage you to give it a try. Experimenting is the fun part! ATB
Hi! I am using a fuel called fire dragon. I have found that it burns extremely clean, and produces no soot, especially compared to the methylated spirits I have used in the past. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment! ATB
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Ok, I'll check it out. Perhaps pure methanol would work just as well even though the name isn't as cool :) I just googled it and it's supposed to be soot free but maybe it has other drawbacks. Thanks for the quick reply!
It has a full fly that goes all the way to the ground and a separate inner tent inside 👍. The skull cap you are referring to is an additional fly on top of the main fly. It allows you to open and vent the main fly while it’s raining. It’s actually a really fantastic feature to have it wet weather! Appreciate you taking the time to comment! ATB
What was the puffy jacket you’re wearing? Is it any good? I saw a review recently where there was little or no difference with a Rab and a Decathlon. The Rab cost about 4 times more though!
I’m wearing a really old puffy from REI. I’ve never used a Rab or Decathlon puffy so I can speak to how good they are but I’ve heard good things about both. So why spend more if you don’t need to 👍. Thanks for watching!
It’s a really beautiful place to camp and hike. I have lived here with my family for four years now 👍 but we live about 4.5hrs south of here so it’s a bit of a drive to get here. Appreciate you watching!
Great video. Couple of questions if I may...is that a Nemo Tensor pad you used? How do you find it as thinking of getting one. I heard the pump sacks aren't great though? Also, did you buy those pour over coffees in the UK? I found them in the US (Kuji?) but can't find them here so far. Thanks!
Thanks! Yes this is a Nemo Tensor Insulated Regular Wide pad. I’ve had it for years now and I really love it. I believe they have an updated version now but I’ve never had any issues with it and I continue to use the bag to inflate it! I have found it to be a really warm and very comfortable pad. Yes these are Kuji pour over individuals. When I was back in the states this summer I got them from an REI. I really like this coffee and try to get them whenever I go back. I have found similar companies in the UK that produce coffees that come in these pour over bags. I think you can even buy the bags and fill them with your own coffee. It may be worth an Internet search. Appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment! Hope you enjoy the rest your weekend!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Thanks for the reply! The Tensor is on my list now and definitely the wide version as all my current ones are far too narrow. Yes, the coffee bags are a good alternative e.g the Taylors ones. Enjoy the rest of your weekend too! Thanks again.
I’ve found the water resistance of my G1000 garments really depends on how recently and how much I’ve waxed them prior to use in wet conditions. I actually had a g1000 Keb jacket on for the hike in and traditional 2.5 layer waterproof trousers over my g1000 Keb trousers. What I found quite interesting was the G 1000 jacket wetted out around the same time that the waterproof trousers wetted out which soaked my trousers underneath. Both were able to keep me dry for the 4 - 4.5 miles I was hiking in the rain prior to setting up camp. It was that last really windy heavy downpour as I was setting up the tent when water soaked through them both. This was, however, the first time that water has penetrated my waterproof trousers. I had a second thin waterproof jacket that I wore for the hike back and that also soaked through eventually in similar conditions towards the end of the hike back to the car. I’m really glad you asked this question because I think this trip made me even more impressed with G 1000s water resistance and the ability to change its water repellency with Greenland wax. I often choose to use it in rainy conditions because it usually keeps me dry and I find it a much more breathable material. I expected the G 1000 to wet out eventually but I’ve been thinking a lot about why my waterproof thin jacket and trousers soaked through! Overtime those materials can lose some of their water repellency, but sticking them in the dryer for a brief period usually brings it back. Haha sorry for the long response I guess I am just thinking out loud! 😂 So in short, yes g1000 does wet out eventually and I did have traditional waterproof trousers over my g1000 hiking trousers and they both soaked through. Again sorry for the long response. All the best!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks for detailed response. Yes G1000, my mistake. I've found waterproof (over) trousers to be very hit and miss, and is you say they do require re-proofing.
@@RollrightKnights after this hike, I stuck my waterproofs in the dryer as recommended, and water does seem to be beading off very well. I usually don’t like my waterproofs for long hikes because I find unless it’s really cold, I sweat so much it’s nearly pointless. 😂. I’d love to try the Fjallraven Keb Eco-Shell jacket but 500 quid is a bit out of my price range for just a jacket. But the material sounds cool!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I'll check it out. I have a Fjällräven cap which I plan on waxing too. I bought it because when wearing a jacket hood the peak will hopefully keep the hood in place a little. Incidentally, I'm sure you probably do this, but with smaller items at least, you can get them fairly dry overnight by putting them in the sleeping bag with you, as long as they're not actually wet, that is really not pleasant! Love your shooting style and it's also nice to not have music! Cheers ATB, Jason ✊
@@RollrightKnights the sleeping bag trick is actually how I dried my trousers on this camp. Works really well! Nice talking with you Jason, really appreciate you watching! ATB
I always wondered about cooking with my trangia in a small vestibule. I want to but a soulo but I didn't think it would work. I even noticed you putting hot pans onto the footprint and it doesn't matter? Great video except you have just cost me £800 😂
The vestibule is not huge in the Soulo but there is definitely space to cook if the weather is unsuitable for cooking outside the tent. I placed the cooked chicken on a cool pan before placing it on the footprint. I definitely wouldn’t recommend placing a pan that was just used for cooking directly on the footprint it as it could definitely destroy it. Haha sorry not trying to encourage big purchases! If you don’t find yourself in these conditions often and you can choose another day for a camp, the Soulo is definitely overkill for most camps! It’s definitely an investment and in less than favorable conditions it’s definitely a tent. It’s popular for good reason 👍. Really appreciate you watching the video and taking the time to comment! ATB
Dude recently subscribed to the channel and loving your vids. Just a question, how much does your backpack weight with a tent and a full trangia with food for an overnight? Also can you cook a complete ramen on just one burner? thanks PS also that's one of the best ramens I've seen in my life.
Really glad to hear that you’re liking the vids! I don’t remember exactly how much it weighted for this trip but I always obey the 20% rule. I believe with this load out it was around 27-28lbs. But that’s with anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds in just camera equipment. So I’m well below a comfortable weight. I also like using this backpack because at 45 L you really can’t pack too much. Yes for this meal I did use just one full trangia. I actually cut it from the video but I mention how incredible the stove is. I’m a big fan! Glad you liked the Ramen. I’ve worked a long time trying to make it just right and I do believe this one was a winner. Really great on a chilly evening! Thanks again for the support and taking the time to comment! ATB

@@GoingSoloOutdoors 👍yes, sheep are cute animals, but there are a lot of pigs, bears and wolves in Turkey, what are the recommendations to ensure security, dear friend?
@@murat_oguz when I lived in the US and I camped in bear country I would carry bear spray. Not sure if there is an equivalent there, but I imagine it would work!
👍 solid advice … but better advice would be to stop trying to film yourself when the sky is falling 🤣. All jokes aside, normally I roll the tent out and stake it down over an area first because I’m not always positive it will fit between the rocks in a particular area. If I was using an inner pitch first tent, getting the poles ready first would be absolutely mandatory! Luckily these single pitch tents normally stay dry inside for me while pitching in the rain as mostly the fly is exposed. Usually it’s not until I open the door that the elements flood in. But yeah poles first is a great idea 👍. Especially if you know for sure your tent will fit a space!
Thanks but I respectfully disagree chef. When I am camping and only bringing the one oil for a dish like this it works very well well for cooking as a neutral oil and only adds flavor 👍
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I understand that you have your manage your weight, and the sesame oil works for you. But again, sesame oil is not meant for cooking, but seasoning, so when you try your recipes for your family. I look forward to seeing some more of your camp food.

👍 I cook by taste so I don’t really measure ingredients. I need to start making more of a concerted effort to measure ingredients so I can. At some point I’d like to get a website running where I can post the entire recipe with photos.
Turmeric tea??? Never heard, although I like tea (well, maybe because I'm Russian))).. thyme, fennel, anise, licorice.. but turmeric.. something new... curious..

This was definitely a wet one 😅. I remember this trip well!
ATB

FYI, the red pole goes in last. great video
Heat a pan an use as iron on your trousers to warm and dry them. Have done it several times with success
Nice. They eventually dried but that’s definitely a new one I haven’t heard before. I’ve dried damp clothing at home with an actual iron on an ironing board so I suppose it would work. @@GoingSoloOutdoors - thanks mate. Keep them coming. .!
Quite intro, I don't need Sawyer water filter up there, look out how clean the water are 😁
Yeah lots of crystal clear pools of water in these mountains.
This was def one of those camps where having a nice warm meal inside the tent when it was raining outside was just great!

Fab video again...Just wondered what sort of weight your pack is?

@Going Solo Great. Looking forward to it!!
Nice view sir
Thanks!
Will you kindly share your Ramen recipe? It looked wonderful. Thanks for the great video.
ATB

Hi! Thanks for the nice video! I'm curious on what fuel you are using. Does it leave a lot of soot on the pots and pans?
Hi, just subbed, out of interest how tall are you?, how do you find the length inside the tent?, great vids by the way.
Thanks! I’m 5 foot 10. I find the length to be good although I do enjoy the extra length of the Hilleberg Unna.
The soulo is an odd tent, every time I see someone using it I think why didn't they give it a full fly, it's only got a skull cap of a fly.
ATB

👍 Absolutely. On a really windy day I’d prefer this spot over a forest. Thanks for watching!
So do you find the G10 fabric wets out eventually? I take it you didn't have waterproof trousers over your hiking trousers?
9:14 Also open your poles up first before exposing your tent to the elements.
Great food ideas, but as a chef, only use sesame oil to season at the end of your dish. Otherwise great fresh ideas.

Brutal weather but still a fun trip 👍
I want to know the geology history of this area …why are there no Trees?
Humans have been in the UK for centuries. Many of the trees were cut down for building or to create land for grazing animals or agriculture. Sad but also goes to show the long term effects humans can have on an environment.
Such a great tarn, I went up there a couple of week ago and had exactly the same conditions you have encountered along with torrential rain for 2 hours 😂, I went there last week again in better conditions, have a look at my video on my channel pal, great footage by the way
Thanks! I’ll be sure to take a look at your channel! It’s a great area. I was a little bummed I didn’t make it to my original destination but the hike was a bit shorter in the morning which was nice as it poured again nearly the entire hike back. We’re definitely getting that rain we missed over the summer! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! ATB
