This song is obviously about depression... now I get it.
its not about depression...at all...
She lost a loved one. It's distant because (ill be referring to the loved one lost as LO) LO is in heaven and she's down here on earth
She feels like a spirit wandering. She's lost hope that LO is returning.
She promised LO that she won't let anything happen to LO but she let LO down and now LO is gone. LO trusted her but now she's broken that she broke her promise to LO. She feels as if LO was the only one she had left.
She want LO back by her side. When she sings "im lost in paradise" Its because she's in her own world where she and LO spend time together. thats why at the very end she sings "alone.....and lost in paradise.." So its not depression. Its her wishing for LO back
now she feels like no one can love her. (thats what Amy said but there are many ways to interpret this song)
It's about her feeling happy, and her guilt at not releasing an an album for four years. The song is her song to the fans.

I have a probably inacurate theroy about this song. As a potential cryptozoologist in training, I need to make any possible connections like so. I know of a cryptid called an encantados. They have been known to live in 'paradise', kidnap humans,mostly female, and have parties with lots of music. My theroy is that it is possible that Amy Lee might have been held captive by encantados and wrote this song about it. Possibly while on tour, as they are said to live in Brazil and Amy is obiously american.
The guitars sound really cheap when it hits the instrumental before the second verse. And the backing vocals are way off. But other than that a nice track
