African threading is an easy way to stretch your natural hair without heat which usually do a lot of damage to natural hair. I tried it and loved the outcome :) best way to stretch and retain length of your natural hair. The thread I used is yarn 🧶, you can get it at your local knitting store or dollar/euro store.
Just how long your stretched hair would last after any other kind of stretching/straightening. Of course if it comes into contact with water it will shrink right back 😬
I could watch textured/ natural African hair tutorial videos all day long.. I know that's probably strange, because i have bland, straight hair but i am just obsessed. It is like watching hair magic. This girl is a freaking hair magician! I just think it's so amazing the skills these women have in transforming their hair, and all this stuff i just knew nothing about. You and your hair are beautiful! Love it!
Thanks! I jusy dyed it so I'm pretty into it myself for now :) Kendra Dikes and I know! I've watched at least 100 textured hair tutorials. It makes me wish i had some curls!
babydoll sarah Well you can get some waves by doing bantu knots on your hair and i did see a tutorial i can look up for you for you to be able to get an afro like texture. It does require heat though.
+babydoll sarah aw that's such a sweet comment! But I'd kill for straight hair! It's so easy to deal with and more cost effective! Girl, you are lucky! Afro's are time consuming and expensive :( x
yep my hair shrinks just like that. All the people who are surprised about the shrinkage- THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT 4C HAIR. Our shrinkage is the most. we are amazing. Love it girl thanks for sharing. 4c hair forever and proud!
I have straight Caucasian hair, but I seriously love watching these videos. Black women and their hair are so uniquely beautiful, I was envious of them and their hair my entire life. These videos are so interesting and mesmerizing to watch and makes me wish I could do similar things to my hair
I love seeing comments like this about black hair , it really just made me smile 😊. to bad every one don't talk about us like this . a lot of ppl seem to not like black things on black ppl but on others "ohhh then it beautiful "
Jessica T because black hair shrinks back to the roots so just a little stretch helps to grow it back lol,it's completely different hair from other races. But once you know how to make it not shrink back it looks like black magic haha
Moratwe Masima just part your hair however, take a scrunchy or rubberbands then put it on your sectioned hair like youre going to put in a ponytail, but as you start to wrap it around your hair, wrap it in a downward motion until u reach the end of the hair...you can look up the banding method on youtube and theres videos to show you..hope that helped :)
I find it so strange how so many people are still not familiar with this method! Maybe because I grew up with it, my Ma being an African and all but I've just always assumed it was common knowledge that if you wanted to stretch your afro-textured hair, you'd either braid it in 3s or thread it. It's also funny how people react "It's magic!" or "What a miracle!" - ladies, this is hair she's already GOT, ain't no tricks or voodoo. It has not grown magically...still a beauty to watch :)
I've seen it but had no idea what it was. Honestly it looked kind of crazy, having hair sticking straight up like Alfalfa's. But I think I'm gonna go buy some weave thread and try it.
Team shrinkage! I have been looking for a vid with someone who had MY hair type. Ppl don't understand that after a yr natural my hair is not as short as it looks! I have to start doing this! The before and after photos is what made me watch the video.
Hair stylist: You don't have enough hair for this boo. MissSharz: Okay..(I'll prove her wrong Next Day... Hair stylist: Hey girl your hair is just perfect now. MssSharz:Yeah bitch it better be.
Thank you so much for this video! I gave up on African threading because I couldn't figure out how to tie off my ends and I couldn't find a tutorial to explain it clearly. This is the clearest explanation I've seen! Now all that thread I bought won't go to waste. Yay!!!
I am in rral life tears right now. I have 4c hair and I've always have been shamed for it because of the curl pattern(tight recoil) seeing this video gives me hope. Thanx
I love watching this video. I love seeing the fact that you're able to stretch it even though the shrinkage is real. It's amazing. The results are great
thank you for this lovely video. I just threaded my 4c hair; I'm about to take it out now, can't wait to see how long my hair is. threading hair is a process but it's well worth it. your hair is gorgeous btw 😍
Wow, my hair is almost the exact same as yours, with either the same amount of shrinkage or more. It's so good to see someone do a tutorial with a hair texture/curl similar to mine--it really brings it home for me that the method works! Lovely tutorial and very detailed with your explanations. Thanks so much for sharing!
Miss may I just say that this is the first video I've seen from your channel and I just love it. I'm still a beginner in natural hair care and I never knew you could do something like that. I love your afro by the way and you looked so pretty I almost cried. I hope I can learn more natural hair care techniques from you.
Great video! Looks simple enough and you got really great results. It's always amazing to see what our hair can do with some time and a little manipulation. Thanks for posting this!
Wow! I just discovered my natural hair can be stretched without heat through a social media post. Your results are phenomenal! My hair is just a little bit shorter than yours so I’ll definitely be trying this.
That was awesome. I got a protected hair style because I just didn't know what to do with my natural hair. I have tremendous shrinkage, now I have some options. It seems so easy. I like that you don't have to do such tiny sections( that would take hours) and the hair still comes out straight. I like it!!!
I hate shrinkage, seriously!! That is why I always do cornrow braids before I go to sleep,it is alot of work ,my arms hurt everyday, and I do it to myself, and then I unbraid it and I get nice braidouts.
dalveny lencastre lmao people ask me about my toned arms. They think I go to the gym but it's really cause of those twist outs and braids lmao just thought of this when I saw your comment
Wow, I had no idea afro hair shrinks that much!! I can only imagine what a pain it must be to grow hair long when it keeps shrinking like that. You learn something new everyday
Something positive about shrinkage? Depending on the hair type and hair porosity, curly hair can shrink up to 90%. Shrinkage is the decrease in length when your hair dries. Not only is it completely normal and a sign of healthy hair; it shows that your hair is properly moisturized and has good elasticity.
MyNeonFreak LOL you all are soooo observant. I had to go back and see. That's why I don't like windows in the bathroom. I am too paranoid someone will be trying to peep in.
+MissSharz, you're beautiful btw. The shrinkage is no joke. You should do a side by side comparison of the hair to show how stretched out you were able to get it. When I was a little girl this is exactly how my mother used to style my hair, before I started getting relaxers. I see that I have to go back to this technique with my now-natural hair to stretch out my fro and make it more manageable. Thank you for posting this video!
I've been wanting to go natural for a few weeks now, my hair is chemically straightened but now I think I should embrace my natural self. was looking for inspiration and you are perfect! my hair is exactly like yours.
Girl go natural if you want to. Yes it's a lot of work but once you see the results it's all worth it. I'm 14 and decided to go natural on december last year, on my birthday. When it's my birthday again it will be a complete year.
I love this video because a lot of the lovely black queens on UA-cam who are showing this method or others for stretching ALREADY have long shoulder length hair before they stretch soooo it does nothing for me to watch their videos. This is it! Thank you!
I've never watched a video where the vlogers hair is just like mine. I have little tears of joy in my eyes....Melodramatic I know but it's amazing to see.
I used this tutorial to African thread my hair for stretch, doing it once yesterday and again today...huge difference! My hair was definitely longer with the first thread and with the second, so much more. Now, I can wear my hair in a high bun using synthetic hair for the bun and not have the back of my hair coming loose from the bun. (Flyaways).
Wow! I love your video, can't believe you had shrinkage in the beginning. I have the same hair texture like you n I normally get frustrated I wash it cause of the shrinkage. But NO MORE thanks to you :-)
Oh, and I went and got a thicker thread like what you have in this video to see if it would be easier to work with. It is! I can tie it off much easier too.
Lol this takes me back to my youth but I had gorgeous long strong hair before I started relaxing it :o(. Mind you the threading look wasn't too cool to go to school with but hey... :o)
Greetings, I absolutely loved your natural hair stretching video. Your hair is beautiful and to see it go from tightly shrunken to nicely elongated and stretched was awesome! I liked your final style, without all the emphasis on "definition". Nappy with shrink or nappy and stretched - both are fabulous to me. Your superior camera angles helped showcase your hair and I could really see it well. Obviously you put time and thought into this production and it is a masterpiece of great technique and gorgeous outcome. Natural hair really rocks! 😃
Your videos are amazing! I remember having this done in Nigeria as a child. People stateside thought I was crazy when I described the process decades later. Anyway, thanks for the videos. I subscribed!!!
Wow! you have good eyes hehe .. I just saw that too hehe. That's not really a window, It's a door, so yes there was someone standing at the bathroom door because I wasn't home alone.. don't worry about that lol
Here you can see someone at the door again lol but this time you'll get to see his face.. It's my partner, he does that a lot when I'm recording lol ua-cam.com/video/jf8rYKQerXk/v-deo.html
I'm glad i came across this video, love it my hair is natural and its hard to manage so i wear hair, now i learn how i can streach my hair and my daughter hair.Thank you
Wow, haven't seen these in yearsss. When I was in grade school I used to get these done on me sometimes by my mom (nigerian!) and hated them -____- lol. Might have to revisit these to stretch out my natural hair. Thanks for the vid!
Same here. My mom would tie them up at the top of my head and I looked like a teepee. It was hard enough being the only natural growing up lol. But now that I'm natural again, I do this all the time. So much better than using heat.
African threading is an easy way to stretch your natural hair without heat which usually do a lot of damage to natural hair. I tried it and loved the outcome :) best way to stretch and retain length of your natural hair.

How long does this last?
Just how long your stretched hair would last after any other kind of stretching/straightening. Of course if it comes into contact with water it will shrink right back 😬
Can it become permanent if you are consistent with the threading?
Thank you!!
Not really, when your hair comes in contact with water you will get your curls/coils back 😉
Shrinkage on natural hair ain't no joke great job
Ain't that the truth. I dread washing my hair.
I haven't washed mine in ages😕
Sharzhay La fleur 😮😦😧
Sharzhay La fleur wash and braid it
Hey Pia, where are you? I used to see your comments almost everywhere
The shrinkage was real tho! wow
Maggy Kloset ...

Yes girl! I'm supposed to be at the gym and I got so mesmerized by these videos! Lol your hair is beautiful by the way, not bland at all :-)

I honestly love shrinkage because people who do not know your hair, are usually really surprised and don't expect it.
I have straight Caucasian hair, but I seriously love watching these videos. Black women and their hair are so uniquely beautiful, I was envious of them and their hair my entire life. These videos are so interesting and mesmerizing to watch and makes me wish I could do similar things to my hair

I love your accent. My hair shrinks every Saturday when I wash it. EVERY SATURDAY. I needed this. A million thanks.
you can always do the banding method, its easier and takes less time
Please describe the banding method? :)
+Moratwe Masima Right lol. She never came back.
Saving/me lol sorry, just now seeing this, but I described it above
Now that's how you stretch some hair!!!
right!
+Prisca J LOL i was thinking the same thing. I literarily grew up doing this. But apparently it is new to a lot of people especially non-Africans.
Prisca J you are right. I wasn't familiar with this method until I saw this video
I've seen it but had no idea what it was. Honestly it looked kind of crazy, having hair sticking straight up like Alfalfa's. But I think I'm gonna go buy some weave thread and try it.
lol I grew up with my hair always being straightened so I started loving my natural hair a year ago and I’m 14😭
Right? Back home we have so many styles with the the tread 😂😂😂😂
*So feminine, so soft spoken, so lovely, a truly beautiful Black Princess :)*
Team shrinkage! I have been looking for a vid with someone who had MY hair type. Ppl don't understand that after a yr natural my hair is not as short as it looks! I have to start doing this! The before and after photos is what made me watch the video.

I love natural hair its sooo versatile and unique! You can rock a short hairstyle one day then the next day have a stretched huge afro!!
Jaz M hardwork though
My mum used to do this when I was a child and it helps the hair to grow so much, I'm going to make her do this for me again since I'm natural
Thank you so much for this video! I gave up on African threading because I couldn't figure out how to tie off my ends and I couldn't find a tutorial to explain it clearly. This is the clearest explanation I've seen! Now all that thread I bought won't go to waste. Yay!!!

MissSharz hey where can I get the thread? Is it a special thread u got to used?
Mica Francis From my understanding we can use weave thread. I bought a bunch for African threading from my local Sally's.
Ohhhh that's how it's done. Thanks for a very easy video, I have to try this. Your hair is beautiful either way.
YOUR ACCENT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Lookin like an African Queen
Great video! Looks simple enough and you got really great results. It's always amazing to see what our hair can do with some time and a little manipulation. Thanks for posting this!

Shrinkage is crazy, I love your hair. So beautiful!! Love your color too 😊
+MissSharz, you're beautiful btw.
Thank you very much Sharon Becky for taking us back to our roots. I will try this with my daughters's and my hair
Thanks dear, all the best :)

Karen Cas See? it works ;)

+MissSharz what thread do you use?
Miss Sharz, what kind of thread is that? Where can you buy it? Loved the outcome. I don't want to use heat either.
Lynee' Melton bought it at a knitting store .. it's just a regular thread though a bit tough so it doesn't break easily.
MissSharz Thank you. We have the same textured hair, and I love how it works on you hair. I think my hair is harder because your edges look soft.
Wow! I love your video, can't believe you had shrinkage in the beginning. I have the same hair texture like you n I normally get frustrated I wash it cause of the shrinkage. But NO MORE thanks to you :-)
your shrinkage is crazy
Oh, and I went and got a thicker thread like what you have in this video to see if it would be easier to work with. It is! I can tie it off much easier too.
Great! :)
I did it! just now! it made it look much longer. my question is how long do I keep these in for
You can keep them in for a while if you'd like 😀 my mom always does them on my hair and I usually keep them in for a couple days so
Can you use the sewing thread?
+Isy Bella that's what I used
Did it work x
+Isy Bella I've actually just got my threading done now😁. But yes, it works well.

+Kiara Jefferson - Clearly, her hair curls up which makes it look very short. Just BC hair is 4c doesn't mean it doesn't curl.
wrong. 4c is the curliest...the texture is different. curl pattern is THE tightest.
4c hair winds up the most but it isn't curly at all. it has no curl definition at all -- so you can't define it as curly, but as kinky.
The shrinkage is *_real!!_* You definitely got a new subbie!!!✨
I am going to try this.
