  • The intergovernmental panel on climate change releases the definitive reports on global warming, with the next major report coming out in 2021 and 2022. But how do these reports actually work, and how far can you trust them?

However, I can see how all those very rich and powerful people who show up as if they care could cause someone that has a conscience, morals and is educated to feel that way. I followed the SS link to ClimateAdam's UA-cam channel as well. Unfortunately, the first comment at the Skeptical Science page illustrates the ignorance and superficiality of many who deny the reality and severity of the AGW/CC (Anthropological Global Warming and associated Climate Change) path that our human civilization is traveling. When a person posts about "extreme predictions" and claims that "It's all a big fraud to get control of energy", I always cringe.
      It is important to be aware that many people cannot - or will not attempt to - get past the simple concept of fixed "predictions" and that they do not understand the concept of "probable outcomes based on various CO2 emission scenarios."
      The essence of global warming and climate change is simple. The details are not. I am a retired American living in the rainforest mountains of Western Panama, and I actually took an online course in climate science from the University of British Columbia five years ago just to get the basics right.

    I've always been very angry with deforestation and clear cutting but I guess Greta was the first one to really bring me on board with the climate and climate science. I never heard of the IPCC until I heard her constantly talking about them. In fact I had no idea there was anything more then maybe Sierra club and friends of the earth etc. I knew about David Suzuki and Attenborough but I had never heard of a climatologists, just a meteorologist. Adam, you're awesome keep spreading the information, we need to get hip to it. Man, I hope Greta goes to the COP, I think Biden is doling out vaccines around the world so she'll rethink her decision. She's connected the way no one else has been able to and it's really important she's there.

      Such a good point!
      As an environmentally focused artist I feel the art world could maybe contribute with this part. Learning about the science through media and explanations such as Adams we can then take make art works from it. Art, music, litterature and such opens doors for self exploration and understanding. It helps engage and ask more personal questions.
      It is also the role of the communicators of the world to translate the science into relatable, graspable, close to home stories.
      I feel they are key industries to activate for the climate transition to take off properly.

    Good explanation. I'm looking forward to report release on Monday 9th and meaning to blog about it.
    There will be new stuff about attribution of extreme events. Doubt sea-level predictions will have changed much since SROCC in 2019.
    If you want something to bet on, will climate sensitivity range be narrower than 2-4.5 °C? I'll stick my neck out and say yes, at least a more precise range will be quoted.
    And will you update your fingernail colour depending on whether it's good or bad news? If you've ever mentioned nail colour, it's not on one of the majority of videos I've missed...

    • @ClimateAdam
      @ClimateAdam  3 роки тому +1

    • @ClimateAdam

      so in general authors of the IPCC have full time jobs doing other things (e.g. researchers / lecturers at universities). so they have to find the time to do the IPCC work around their regular commitments.
      so it's generally very demanding on the authors, but don't worry... they're not going to starve!

    Don't forget, when you are shocked and upset while reading the report, this was intentional. Corporations and Governments knew the damage being done. This is not our individual responsibility to fix, that would be successful gaslighting if we thought it was all our fault. There are key players that must carry the weight and we must make them. Sure, we didn't create this problem, but our generation must solve it. That's just our Zeitgeist.
