She uses the term men when referring to abuse of power, and inappropriate behaviour. She should say women so as not to be sexist. I remember a man interviewed on Women’s Hour saying he had been touched up by a female colleague. Jenny Murray made fun of him, saying “You poor thing, you should have enjoyed it” or words to that effect. Woman can behave in an appalling manner. I’ve experienced aggression from numerous female colleagues, often passive aggression, making the workplace unbearable. So, cut the sexism please.
But the reality is in most cases it is men abusing their power over women and girls. While it does happen the other way with women over some men. It is not a 50:50 split.
@ You’re right, but could that be because men are more often in positions of power? One of the worst bullies I’ve met was a female director. Another was a female office manager. As regards colleagues, I’ve found women to be worse. This is in engineering. But look at identity politics activists, both genders are engaged in abusive behaviour.
I think Greg Wallace is probably a man of his time and upbringing. There was a time, when misogyny was acceptable. I’m not sure how old he is, but I am 65 and remember those days. I grew up in the 60s and 70s when it was rife. You’ve only got to watch a few of the old TV shows, and movies of that time. 🙂
He has been alive through the last 30 or 40 years though - did he live with his eyes and ears closed? Many people have been "brought up" one way or the other and yet keep on growing or rather evolving past their teenage years. I find that a very thin layered excuse for behaviours like that.
I remember when he was on Strictly Come Dancing. During a discussion about body contact with his dance partner, he told her he never wore underpants. Gross.
We just happen to know one of the Professional Master Chef more recent contestants (did very well). His view of Greg was that he was a really nice guy who seemed to genuinely care about the contestants. He made sure to have quiet words with some of the clearly upset contestants. BUT….his humour was “ribald” and could understand why many, and women especially, would find his humour surprising and upsetting in a professional environment.
Wow like we don't have enough problems to deal with. Choosing to be offended to garner attention. The guy is probably just an old burke. Sack him, get him off air, cancel him, ruin his life. Put the tea girl whose been to university, where they told her how oppressed she was for 4 years in charge of the world.
We cannot compare Wallace with Saville or Edwards. If the guy has harassed some of the staff, contestants then he should be disciplined. Telling a few crude jokes or having some banter is not a sacking offence.
It’s part of a society that normalises this type of behaviour. Obviously it’s nothing like Saville but comparing it sounds like you are trying to normalise his behaviour which should still be unacceptable.
It's not just men abusing their power it's just about everyone with power arbitrarily allotted to them rather than earnt by their talent and efforts. Granted the majority of abusers are men, but to use that identifier mischaracterises the situation and pushes the listener into misidentifying the group responsible for causing problematic issues. Namely, the undeservingly powerful... Which is more or less the entirety of the UK at the moment. Small wonder the presenter and the interviewee had little interest in raising the subject of unearnt power? We are led by entitled morons and clowns and it's only getting worse. Too many chickens coming home to roost at the same time.. it's like watching a car crash in very very slow motion
Once again, my gut feelings about a BBC PRESENTER WAS SPOT ON,I NEVER LIKED GREG Wallace. Perhaps I could help BBC with their choice of tv personalities. I had a dislike for Saville years before his disgrace, never liked Rolf Harris,Hue the Welsh news reader, the ex football pundit who once played for Spurs, I wonder who will be be next?

Any lewd jokes should be automatic handcuffs and a one year jail term. Double jail sentence per additional joke/comment. Or maybe a silent set when not filming ?

@@Kate_Falls i disagree. Some ppl refuse to develop or learn intentionally. Take D. Dump for starters.
He never left the men's locker room LOL.😂
The interviewer putting words into her mouth, she couldn’t really come up with anything bad. Pathetic behaviour from the journalist
Oh grow up. Anything for a moment in the spotlight.
I don’t watch any of his programmes because I find him to be creepy.

Absolute snowflakes 😂
Hopefully he will dropped from, In the Factory, which is an interesting program, but big headed Wallace ruined it.
The celebrities need to have references from ALL supporting staff to have a annual or biannual review to continue

This interviewer seems to be trying to get her to use every cliche in hand wringing textbook.
And you think Women don't?
Back in the day, this was called courting 🙄.
As a consequence, we breed less and less. Hence, all the strangers 😒
I stopped watching when the second woman used this as a vehicle to attack men. Oh yes and the single down vote is from me.
Always thought even without these revelations , that this bloke was a slime ball !

Probably because of all the criticism of the BBC in the last few years they are not now taking any risks .

Not sure.
