@@felixsahlen1836 no theyre not. theyre designed to lessen air restriction. that's it. if they were meant for carbies, why do they make very very specific ones for modern vehicles that wont fit anything else?
@@ghomerhust I know they aren't advertised for carb engines only. Problem is that the oil messes up the MAF readings. This causes the engine to believe it's getting either more or less air than it actually does, kinda similar to an intake air leak. I guess you might be able to clean the MAF, but it's VERY sensitive hence the misreadings by just a little oil from the filter. My JT oiled filter cost me two MAFs at 1000sek . Sure it's not K&N but the theoretical problem is still there. I'm convinced K&N make really good high quality filters, but you should only run dry filters on a car with a MAF.
just for future reference, the yellow crap on the headliner is what used to be foam. made the liner a bit spongey and makes the lining mould to the curves better. you can buy the new liner with foam already adhered and glue that on. It makes such a nicer job especially on a light coloured headliners
Was settling into the video with just Alex, Rory, and Josh, then Taylor turns up having sorted the whole front end of the car before he even got there. Outstanding! 😂 Quality content as always.
As a fellow adhd-er this one rang so true with every DIY job I've ever taken on. I've never tackled a headliner for the exact reasons Alex uncovered...preparation, scissors, patience etc etc 😂 Also Joosh is a good addition, playing the straight man against the antics of the rest of the guys
Iv watched every video so far and can honestly say this is a massive step up from your car throttle days you can tell your a lot happier Alex and enjoying everything that your doing it would be nice to see you reunited with ethan and Jack though maybe a vs series with them could be an idea sincerely David higgins
I owned a 1985 Saab 900 Turbo and had to repair the headlining, I even had to do some fibreglass repairs to the panel the lining covered! I swore a fair bit, but having been advised of the right contact adhesive to use it turned out superbly, even getting compliments from a Saab specialist! A repair that needs some patience and care, but well worth it and definitely worth doing yourself instead of paying £500!
As someone who grew up watching Wheeler Dealers I'm loving this series, especially the price breakdown of all the parts and work at the end reminded me of when Mike would enthusiastically sum up everything they did with the car.
I appreciate the rapid uploads and the quality of the videos, having an absolute blast watching these. Nothing like knowing I got 20 minutes of AutoAlex waiting for me in the evening while I sit down with some food. Its a great highlight after a tough day, keep up the good work Alex and the team. Love, Hinjima.
You need the special cam locking tool to do the cambelt. If not, it will throw engine code at higher rpm. Cam bolts need to be loosened, the belt tightened and then the bolts torqued. You can not do a belt slap with marking dots on those 2.7 and 4.2 engines. Ask me how I know, I have 2 Audi S8 4.2 with manual gearboxes, one of them I could buy very cheap because previous owner had the belt done (incorrectly) and they could not find the fault.
I remember back in the days of Max Power, I fitted a K&N filter to my stock '91 Golf GTi 8V and dyno'd 420BHP at the wheels. It's like having unicorn farts in your tank.
Had an E36 coupe that no one would touch the headliner ( hard to get out without bending ) . A boat repair marine company ended up doing it. Superb Job and £200 all in.
Aerosol glue won't cut it , will just drop down again latest next summer , need to spray decent 2 part high temp contact adhesive. It's a job that's easy to Eff-up. £500 for the right material and the time to fit it is not bad. What did you spend on materials? There needs to be a layer of foam scrim under the liner material or use a liner material that comes with the foam already bonded.
I remember removing the headliner from my 2013 Honda CRZ. I needed to change the sharkfin antenna to a DAB one. NEVER again. I had to take out most of the rear boot trim and front piller trims because the headliner went down inside there. The headliner was so thin and the boot was so small. We had to fold it to remove it. We managed to get the creases out but it was never perfect. Never broke any clips though.
I literally just did this on my Acura TL and it wasn’t too bad even with the sunroof and it not being a wagon. Had to do the job twice because the original glue I used sucked so it started dropping in the summer sun after 1 day installed. Used 3M for the second go and it’s been up no issues.
I know Josh had pain with the bumper clips near the front wing and the AC hoses on the front. The worst part of those headliners are the B and C pillar plastic trims, good job on not busting them
Lol wheeler dealers doesn't include so many costs. As long as we don't film it we don't need to disclose it 👍. It's tv so whatever it's just funny. They've never lost money ever.
Did this to my X-Type Jag saloon 3 months ago, nightmare. I ended up scraping the old foam off, lightly sanding it down then painting it black to match the interior. Job done.
Why KN filter gives u moore power is thanks to it is letting moore air flow thro it and it don't filter the air as good as orginal ones just so u know.! A trick to modern up the interior and make it nicer to look at is with light is to put Led lights in it. Great video 👍
Definitely my favorite series of the channel. Loving the Wheeler Dealers vibe to it and I can't wait to see your face when you finally make it to the Porsche 993. Cast couldn't be more on point as well. Keep it going!
Good job Alex, redoing the headliner is indeed a time consuming task. Did it on my 95' golf wich had a sunroof and grey color headliner, i was miserable for 3 days doing it xD Always enjoy the videos you post, have a good one :D
Thanks for posting this, got my Octy estate to do sometime and wasn't sure if it was a screen out job. Was that proper roof lining or 4 way stretch campervan lining? I see no spongy stuff...
honestly, i just fkin love wednesdays. i have 1 1/2 hr drive home from work...new podcast drops, get home have something to eat and settle down to latest sheeeeenanigans from you boys love it..!
Did the headlining on my E34 saloon, and if you get the right angle, it comes out easily.....getting it back in again is another story 😂 Also start from the center length wise, so you won't have the creases as Alex did.
Alex and the guys are so relatable when it comes to working on cars yourself, they’re all so riddled with ADHD that they get bored and give up and start pulling silly faces through the roof lining. I’d do the same. 😆😆
I am not saying it's a good idea but I replaced my Disco 1 headlining with grey polar fleece. It worked surprisingly well. At least on the second attempt using high temperature glue. It's very stretchy and you don't need the foam. When people ask I tell them it's lined in Muppet hide.
After watching 16 years worth of Mighty Car Mods, it feels like most car UA-camrs are just copycats of them. At least some have unique personalities like Alex & crew to make them stand out.
As a matter of interest, what glue did you use? I re-stuck mine with 3M high temp glue but it didn't stay stuck for very long. I live in a hot climate which is a problem
Did a headliner on my Dad's 99 A8 had to remove the full headliner to repair the sunroof, one job I shall never ever do again on any car regardless of "ease" etc, worst afternoon of my life.
I can only imagine the amount of rattles, squeaks and vibrations in that cabin after Alex's re-fit of that interior! Like an army of mice in a biscuit tin Factory
I absolutely love it! This longer video format where its like a whole episode with substantial progress done to a car where there's ample stuff to look at but not too much that u get bored of it is purfect
UPGRADE YOUR CAR WITH A K&N FILTER HERE: www.knfilters.co.uk/
£100 here if you wanna do my Edition 30 headliner 😂😂
Sorry bro but I prefer a working MAF over a couple of hp. These filters are for engines with carburetors.
Josh is too tall. 😂

The new headliner had it already stuck to the back
Probably helps with thermal insulation and sound deadening too.
Maisie is carrying you guys so hard, we can clearly see she is masterminding these builds and supervising your work
So Josh is the first actually competent member of Autoalex crew
Taylor is absolutely competent!

Have you hired on Josh full time?
If so I'm pumped to see AA projects actually completed :D
yes, he's part of the team now. he went with them in Big Pete when they took the cars to the Ring this last time around.
As someone who grew up watching Wheeler Dealers I'm loving this series, especially the price breakdown of all the parts and work at the end reminded me of when Mike would enthusiastically sum up everything they did with the car.
Excited for this one as I’ve been wearing my Audi A4 headliner like a hat for the past 3 years
🤣🤣
The excitement I felt when I saw you upload a video made my evening! Loving the constant content being pushed out 😊
Taylor showing everyone one of his many skills. Magic.

Cracking job on the video and editing. Getting better and better aiden Rory. Loving the weekly content
