I am the caretaker of a very remote Welsh cemetery in CNY in Oneida county town of Steuben...the cemetery is of Welsh immigrants that came over to settle on the general Baron Von Steuben patent after the revolutionary war late 1700s.
Thanks for stopping there. It was interesting to see the names there. My great great Uncle (last name James) immigrated to Scranton from Pembrokeshire Wales in 1880 and worked as a miner . Yes nice to see the daffodils coming up. We also have the name Bowen in our tree .
Been a subscriber for a while but man, never clicked so fast when I read 'Welsh' in the title. Davis, Bowen and Powell are as Welsh a name as you'll find.
What a cool old cemetery. I think that old tree is remarkable. Lets you imagine what that area must have looked like way back when... Thanks for the video.
David is a common Welsh name. St. David's Day (Welsh patron saint) was March 1. Also see lots of daffodils (Welsh national flower) ready to come up there.
Cliff, That's a great site, so much to see and well kept signs. Please come back and document it throughly. Cheers, Rik Spector P.S. If you linger on the signs, I can read them later.
Thanks Cliff, so sad when we read of the children passing so young. Back in that day if you got whatever and the home remedy did not work and you did not live long enough to build up some immunity. Even today some folks refuse to have their children vax, that's another issue these little graves speak to??😢😢
A lot of folks died in farm & industrial accidents in the days before safety regs / labor laws. A lot of women died in childbirth; in the days before antibiotics, a simple cut could become infected and kill you, a big reason why most men grew out a full beard / mustache. Shaving was dangerous.
@@sandranovakovich688Good morning, Sandra. I took a peak at my Blair ancestry. I am related to a John Lyle Blair who was born in Raloo, Antrim, Ireland 1694- died 1771 in Belfast, Antrim, Ireland. My son and I believe John Lyle Blair was originally from Scotland.
Sandra, John’s parents were a Rev. Samuel Blair ( 1667-1754) and a Martha Campbell Lyle (1672-1729). Do you have any similar names on your family tree?
