PSA: thank you guys for filling me in! I really missed the mark here with what this song was about! But that’s the beauty in Tyler’s lyrics is: anyone can interpret it in their own way! And what a beautiful concept and privilege we have to be able to do so! Thank you clique crew and TØP for being so awesome and allowing people like me to be apart of this awesome experience! ❤️
That’s okay, we know what it means and now you do too. The musical breakdown you gave us is excellent! This is a song that a lot of us are very protective of because of what it’s saying. But it was super cool to hear you really talking about Josh’s mad skills and touches like the walking bass, etc. Also love your unabashed energy for the music. Thanks ! ✌🏻
Also, coming from a 2024 perspective, I can see why you interpreted as over-consumption of social media (phones). This song came out in 2011, that it can still be seen as a fresh perspective 13 years later is pretty amazing.
Turn your guns (self harm thoughts) into a fist (fight it/be strong). You are not alone, we can all go outside of our thoughts --together. Tyler wrote this when hearing of fans who had "guns for hands." Twenty One Pilots' music has helped so many people, and I've read f those who say the music/the songs/the poems or lyrics saved them.
I LOVE how you started with their early work and have yet to hear how their music progressed throughout the years. I really hope you keep reacting to them because there's a lot to see and you are great at noticing all the details! An amazing band with a very important message..
Love the doubles music video/live performance. Not seeing this format from other top reactors ✌️ making it your own signature for us craving the reactions
Dude!!! The thought of the “phone (cell phone/social media) being used as guns for hands” is mind blowing for me. That’s a great analogy for this song. I NEVER thought about it that way. That’s awesome man. I’m 47 so… that’s a great example for me to explain that to my young kids (11 & 14). I mean, you had me pause 🤯🧘♀️ Thank you so much for that. ❤❤❤ That is GREAT!
Completely agree, I never thought of it that way either. It really works so well throughout the entire song. The line “trading our thumbs for ammunition” makes me think the whole song is a double meaning, just like a lot of their songs, because that line only makes sense in context of using a phone, not a gun. Can’t believe I’ve never thought of this before now, really great reaction!
This one's about self harm, He got trouble sleeping cause he knows people are harming themselves, we need to go outside, join hands and help each other to fight this thing ! ❤
The first verse hits me hard because of my own history of SH. There have been plenty of times where I have wanted to feel something because of the thoughts and where my mind went, but in the morning it would reveal just how bad it was. I had those conversations with my parents and just like Tyler says, I promised it wouldn’t happen again, knowing it was a lie. When I first heard the first few seconds for the first time I had to stop and cry for several minutes before I could finish the song. It’s one of my favorites because I know how visceral that feeling is, and I know I’m not the only one.
Keep going 1st : Vessel album - Ode to sleep (music video) + - Car radio (music video) + - holding on to you (music video or live from the Fox theater) + - guns for hands (music video) + - migraine (The live room version) - trees (live from fox theater ) 2nd line : blurryface album - stressed out (music video, it’s the one that made them so popular right now) - lane boy (music video) - ride (live from Fox theater) - hometown (lyrics video) - tear in my heart (music video) - the judge (lyrics video) - fairy local (music video) - message man (lyrics video) - goner (live from fox theater , ending of the album) - Heavydirtysoul ( music video - this one is the connection to the next album, beginning of the storyline) 3rd line : Trench album - jumpsuit ( music video , connected to hvdrtsl) - nico and the niners (music video, next one in saga) - levitate (music video, next one in saga) - chlorine (music video) - the hype (BOTH, album and Berlin session versions ) +- - my blood (music video) + - pet cheetah (lyrics video) - morph (lyrics video, a bit of connection to storyline) - Heathens ( music video, spin off, not from any album but have a lot of small connections to story) - neon gravestones (lyrics video) - legend (lyrics video) - bandito (lyrics video, huge connection in storyline) - leave the city ( lyrics video, ending of era ) 4th line : Scaled and Icy album - Shy away (music video) - Choker (music video) - Saturday (music video) - Outside (music video) - No chances - Redecorate 5th line: Clancy album Basically you can react to every song , each of them have a music video. Here is some extra performances : - TOP x Mutemath session - stripped down storyteller session by Tyler - MTV unplugged session
I feel you have greatly underrated Sacled and Icy. It may be my favorite, but picking a favorite TOP album is like trying to pick which kid is your favorite lol
Something that Tyler does that I love, he holds the microphone to his mind. 1. It shows the lyrics come from his mind, he's singing songs with personal meaning; they were not written by someone else. 2. He likes to let us know that it's not real. Producers always want them to lipsync for music videos. They do a cute bit on this in the Behind the scenes for Shy Away.
Perfect double feature to draw you in to their lives. Tyler writes his songs with a live lean. If you watch closely at the back flip Tyler flicks his wrists. The subtleness is fantastic. And we are here for YOUR reaction. No need to apologize. ❤
After being a fan since Vessel era, I got to see them in concert in Columbus for Clancy and it was very emotional on my behalf because I’ve been listening to them for so long and because they’ve been through so much with me, so let me tell you something, these two white men from Ohio know how to put on a show! The energy, the visuals, the music, it’s all amazing.
funny that you say you're surprised you've never heard this song shopping because I was actually introduced to this band by hearing this song at a tilly's store back when vessel released
I try to like balance out the nerdy musician talk so that people don’t get too bored but something is are just so intriguing and catch my attention that I can’t help but AT LEAST acknowledge it!
The masks, generally not just here, have a couple meanings. At the start here, it's hiding themselves until they fell confident. Tyler also said it's a way to get attention, make themselves memorable live (esp early days, playingin bars), and also to depersonalize the messages in their music, so the listeners can better relate. I think there are other valid interpretations, it depends a lot on context.
Dude, these are so good! That you can dig into both the lyrics and the musicality with the level of excitement that the fans have for this stuff makes for a great watch. Promise, we don't mind the yap, Tyler is also guilty of being super yappy, we still love him for it.
I LOVE your musical analysis of it all. The lyrics are great yes and like let's listen but ALSO THE DRUMS MAN. Like.. I wouldn't say im a Josh Laner, but the hype i get when i just LISTEN to the music is never put into words well enough!
MTV Unplugged is amazing but I think you will enjoy it more if you have heard the original versions first as they totally re- invent the songs. So IMO save it until you're a little further along.
I love, love, love it when you do the double features like this! Thank you so much! This song makes me want to cry, honestly. I will never get over how deeply Tyler loves us, the Clique, to write this sincerely about how much it would hurt him to lose any one of us. He wears his heart on his sleeve at all times, and that's why I love him to death! And yeah; Josh is absolutely a beast, to be able to so effortlessly keep up with all the crazy beat switches that happen in their songs. I can hardly walk and chew bubblegum at the same time most days, so I don't know how he does it! As far as other songs to check out: I think you'd like The Judge or Goner, if you'd like to keep with the Live At The Fox Theater versions! They never miss though, so i'll be happy with whatever you choose!
I can't help but notice how much you're enjoying those drums in both video and live versions. There is an element that is there when it's live, too.. every time you could feel the kick drum.. even in the balcony.. he's very specific about his mic system on the drums, too. Thing is the way that it's almost done in a way to mesmerize the live listener. These boys will forever be my favorite performers that I've ever seen. The journey is just getting to you too. Can't wait to see how you go through it all.
Oh I wanted to point out that my personal view of Tyler’s black paint, is that it represents sin. I reeeaaally want you to watch the jumpsuit music video so you can see what I mean, because you see one of the bishops mark tyler with it on his neck, pushing sin onto him. But yeah, please do jumpsuit!!
That’s is a really insightful way of looking at that. Especially with the constant representation of duality that Tyler struggles with throughout all of their albums. I really love this idea, I was just told a long while ago that it represented his insecurity (which it still can) so I never bothered to think about it in any other context.
Yes, Tyler has said that when he has lots of lyrics he needs to be able to fit into one song, he has to do them really quickly which ends up sounding a lot like rap!
This song is so special and so important and i will die on the hill that it is their most important song ever made, and possibly one of if not the most important song EVER made because of the meaning. I'm extremely excited to see this reaction
My best fren of mine highly recommended your TØP reactions to me and here I am 😁 Nice to see another person literally drowning in a sea of our band music 🥰 It's also fun to see new attempts to decipher Tyler's poetry and metaphors used in his lyric. In any case, their and our keynote is "Stay Alive"
Great reaction once again. Please continue with this journey. All songs are wonderful and would suggest you listen to them through the lens of mental health. Tyler has been very vocal about his struggles with anxiety/depression and most songs have incredibly deep, important and powerful messaging disguised with more bright and happy sounding instrumentals. The fans are incredibly important to Tyler and Josh and the guys hear about how much their fan base is struggling with their own mental health, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. With this song, he’s telling them he sees us, and to please stay alive. Turn those weapons we use against ourselves to a fist, and fight.
Yes, Tyler did say that most times if he turns to rap, it's because he wrote the lyrics first. But other times he writes the melodies first. Either way, his lyrics are poetry.
I love the instrumental breakdowns. No way am I skipping this. Yes, I pause and comment a lot. I like to interact. And I hope it helps your algorithms.
26 minutes! I love it. Just know I will pause to comment. This will take me at least an hour. I love long reactions! Especially your long reactions. Keep it coming!
I enjoy the studio + live reactions no matter if their 20-30 mins long videos. The next one you should react to is their song Ride + the live show they did at the fox theatre as well (same place they did holding on to you)
"Migraine".... studio version and live room version!! ...and "Stressed out "...studio and MTV unplugged version!!! and specially for you "Lane boy" studio version... Josh drum solo!!!.... Fall away live version ft Dr. Blum... absolutely amazing... the list goes on and on!! Hugs from Buenos Aires!!!👽👽💀💀🟦🟦⬜⬜🟦🟦💖💖

Love the reactions man! Imma leave some recommendations here if you want to check them out. Some songs from their self-released album I’d recommend are Forest, Lovely, and Kitchen Sink. A good song to pick apart lyrically is Neon Gravestones. Drown is a song only released by Tyler. And since you enjoyed watching Tyler remake The Hype, I’d definitely watch their MTV. They remake a bunch of their songs live. Keep up the amazing reactions:)
When trying to understand what a TOP song is about, first go dark and you’re probably close lol. All their songs are open for individual interpretation though. Loving your reactions. Please keep going. You’re in for quite a ride! |-/
I like your theory about this being about kids being chronically online, but I ended up taking it a lot more literally when I first listened to it lol I was just like oh we’ve got a lot of suicidal kids here that don’t know how else to solve their problems except by permanently giving up with a gunshot. A lot of them are so far gone that they lose sight of the tools they have to fix things (like their hands, turning their guns to fists to fight the problem instead of removing themselves from the world). Tyler’s bringing attention to this and trying to draw their gunfire/hurt and anger from themselves and instead aim at him and his music because he can take it
Your explanation was so impeccably written that I literally am sitting here with tears running down my face right now If you have been wondering at all, then this is your message from the Universe, NEVER STOP WRITING
To their words, the masks they wear always had two functions. One was to get the attention from the audience at the beginning (like why they got the skeleton hoodies, and Josh was even wearing that gorilla costume for a few shows), but Tyler also said it should draw the attention away from the artist to the music.
I watch music reaction channels for the commentary. I mean, I kinda thought hearing that person’s opinion was one of the main appeals to consuming that kind of content. If you complain about the commentary, maybe just watch the music video or listen to the song on its own. Idk ppl are weird (myself included) 🤷🏻 I especially like hearing your opinion bc you are a musician. The takes are very different from a music enthusiast and a connoisseur. Both are valid and very interesting. I like consuming both kinds of reactions.
Haha idk it just kinda popped into my head! But luckily everyone has kinda helped to fill me in on the TRUE meaning of the song and I still stand by what I said. It’s a beautifully written track with insane drums and vocals ❤️
@@TociReactsWhat speaks against the phones theory was the simple fact that the song was from 2013 when phones weren't that present 😂 but I love your yapping. Keep going!
Please, react to Clancy album at the end, you need to listen to all of their songs first. Then one by one till the end with the videos. Love your reactions, they are so complex!
Yeah the comments showed me where I was wrong and I totally get the premise of the song now! But that’s the good thing about TØP that I really resonate with, is that fact that you can interpret the song in his way or your own way! Everyone is included ! ❤️
Yeah I don’t know how or why I came up with that interpretation but luckily I was able to figure it out during the premier where everyone helped me grasp the concept of this amazing track ❤️🙏
PSA: thank you guys for filling me in! I really missed the mark here with what this song was about! But that’s the beauty in Tyler’s lyrics is: anyone can interpret it in their own way! How shook would bro be if he listened to snap back or navigating right now from a Tyler over a decade older.
Turn your guns (self harm thoughts) into a fist (fight it/be strong). You are not alone, we can all go outside of our thoughts --together. What’s so awesome is how mature Tyler’s vision for the band was even back at the beginning. Or in high school with No Phun Intended. Crazy.
The first verse hits me hard because of my own history of SH. I feel like he would GEEK over the MM sessions. As a musician, they are just so fun.
I feel you have greatly underrated Sacled and Icy. It may be my favorite, but picking a favorite TOP album is like trying to pick which kid is your favorite lol
Guns for hands is about suicide and depression (he wrote it after a lot of kids came to him after shows and shared their struggles with him).
Something that Tyler does that I love, he holds the microphone to his mind. 1. Always run the lyrics through the filter of mental health (or illness). These lyrics are as dark as they are positive. He wants us to “stay alive”.
Perfect double feature to draw you in to their lives. Tyler writes his songs with a live lean.
If you watch closely at the back flip Tyler flicks his wrists. The subtleness is fantastic.

I really enjoy the studio and live double reactions, I hope you continue this format!
This song gets me so emotional. Tyler's vocals and Josh's drums are insane!
Love the reaction and breakdown. Its ok that you missed the meaning you are new. Keep em coming we are here for it
I love, love, love it when you do the double features like this! Thank you so much!
This song makes me want to cry, honestly. I will never get over how deeply Tyler loves us, the Clique, to write this sincerely about how much it would hurt him to lose any one of us. He wears his heart on his sleeve at all times, and that's why I love him to death!

I watch music reaction channels for the commentary. I mean, I kinda thought hearing that person’s opinion was one of the main appeals to consuming that kind of content.
If you complain about the commentary, maybe just watch the music video or listen to the song on its own. Idk ppl are weird (myself included) 🤷🏻
I especially like hearing your opinion bc you are a musician. The takes are very different from a music enthusiast and a connoisseur. Both are valid and very interesting. I like consuming both kinds of reactions.
The craziest song musically is Slowtown, everyone knows that, some people just are afraid to admit it. I think you should check it
I see what you are doing!
Trying to intrigue our fine young fellow into reacting to your favorite top song!
Which I completely support, btw, lol
Unrelated you should do Lavish next, im EXTREMELY intrigued on what you think about it. Its a funny one
the way the transitions this tour have ruined me because I expected lavish to start playing at the end lol. so good.

This viewer loves the Magical Music of Ms. Angelina Jordan.!!! She above Amazing.!!! We Thank UUU - 4D... Have a great Day.
I know that everyone can have their own interpretation (even more TOP), but dude you take the phone interpretation out of nowhere 😂😂
Keep going!
@@MalzaSpeziale I did not make that connection at the time! I got so lost in the actual song itself !! 😂😂 I apologize for my stupidity 😂😂
Please, react to Clancy album at the end, you need to listen to all of their songs first. Then one by one till the end with the videos. Love your reactions, they are so complex!
Can you have a react to twenty one pilots - Ride (Live at Fox theater)?
if you ever need to know the meaning of certain lyrics i recommend using genius!!
It about "unalive" yourself...DON'T DO IT!!
This song is about suicide and I can see how you thought that, this meaning of the song is so important though.
❤️
I rather have you pause and talk. If people doesn't want you to pause, they should go watch the actual video.
While I absolutely appreciate the breakdown, though you were insanely wrong here, I wish you'd listen first. then break it down. Good lord lol
Yeah the comments showed me where I was wrong and I totally get the premise of the song now! But that’s the good thing about TØP that I really resonate with, is that fact that you can interpret the song in his way or your own way! Everyone is included ! ❤️
Sorry dude, the song isn’t about technology, it’s about Suicide. It’s anti self harm anthem
Yeah I don’t know how or why I came up with that interpretation but luckily I was able to figure it out during the premier where everyone helped me grasp the concept of this amazing track ❤️🙏
