    I really liked this trailer from the short tour you guys gave me. Biggest plus for. me was the pop-up top. Very excited to see some of my close friends have one on order. See you on the trail. Cheers!

      Super cool, I'm sure they will love it! It's too bad we missed all the events you guys had. We were like a week apart from being up there or had prior commitments. We will be sure to plan around some this spring when we get back up there.
      Also, do you think there would be any interest in a trip out west? Like a 5-6 vehicle thing. Planning on late May into June for a month but people can peel of when ever. IDK, just throwing it out there.

    Good coverage of the trailer. Enjoy it. I use velcro on the handles also changed the front jack made a big difference.

      Ah, yeah. How did we not think of that.. I have a whole bag of those things! Which front jack did you end up going with?

    Hey. Great job on your videos. I have a 4Runner also and I’m looking at purchasing a Mission. Just recently had my truck geared to 4.56. How has it been towing the Mission on your trips?

      TL/DR - Good. Your gearing will improve the experience.
      On the trails its was great; tracks well, suspension handled what the stock 4Runner TRD Pro on 33s can handle and the breaks worked as intended. We ran 6 or 7 mountain ranges throughout Utah and it got a little doggy on some of the ascents. Felt good going down - we have a RedArk in dash break controller, ran it on proportional mode the whole time.
      We had it loaded up for a 3 week trip. 30 some gallons of water, two 5 gal Jerry cans, 40lb of propane, food, too much beer, etc. It comes in at 2450lb dry. It had to be closer to 3000. So it's below the 80% rule. I did weigh it, but I don't have the numbers... It actually felt better (balanced) when fully loaded. Using manual and dropping it down to 2 or 3 is obviously mandatory but we had to go down to 4Lo a hand full of times on the trails. It got a little worse at higher elevations, like +9000ft. Plus we were using 85 fuel. Lesson learned, there. One of the draw backs of getting fuel out in the middle of nowhere repeatedly.
      The Summit has a bounce to it when empty. In fact, we ran the 1300mi back home with it loaded, less the fuel in the Jerrys. Its a brick pulling a brick. So the MPGs were in the 10.5 range, loaded and empty. Odd, I know. Forget about using the cruise control. It feels good back there on the freeway though, no sway or crazy sh!t when breaking hard.
      I can only compare it to a Jetski at 800lbs, which was nothing lol and an Opus Lite camper we had last year coming it at 2380lb. The Lite had a low profile and smaller tires so gas mileage was better but the trailer was worse in every other conceivable way.
      Any more questions, let me know and I'll try to help. Good luck on your search and thanks for watching!

    Look at getting a swing out shower bracket for the rear driver side - works well (Grea4Overland has them). I'm undecided between the Mission or Off Grid units! The Baja is calling.

      I didn't see anything on their site about a mechanism that would do what we're looking for. Maybe you could point to a specific item. We are trying to get the whole shower canopy to come away from the trailer about a foot or so to get past the wheel fender.

    Can these have AC? I noticed the florida tags I dont see how it would be liveable in july without

    • @thistediouspath
      @thistediouspath  8 місяців тому +5

      @mattbrew11
      The new Summits come with a built in AC as an option. I think you can get one retro fitted, as well. Cant speak to those as we haven't even seen one. There are other solutions like the battery operated Zero Breeze portable AC unit. The 2022 trailer we have came with the port for it built in. They are quite pricey for what you get and don't seem to be set up right for the trailer as they suck in hot air from outside rather than pull air into the unit from the already cool trailer interior... We personally use a Black and Decker portable AC as seen in the video. We only use it when we have shore power. I'm sure Mission Overland can help you get a better idea.
      We don't camp in Florida during the summer months - we are kind of nomadic snowbirds so we get out of there by early May ;)

    I thank you again for sharing your experiences. My question to you both would be, how is the trailer in terms of stability on the HWY and offroad, how good is suspension on off-road condition, and how is your experience towing it with the Toyota 4runner. Again, thank you both.

    • @spec24
      @spec24 6 місяців тому +1

      We have one, and I can tell you towing is great. I've driven it across the country and can tell you the thing is stable as they come. You don't even know it's there. And off road is the same. Anywhere my Jeep Gladiator can go, it goes.

    Wondering about the suspension? Truly independant? Looks like therr is an axle there, not trailing arms.

    • @thistediouspath
      @thistediouspath  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, they are 3,500lb Timbren off road independent axles with Dexter hubs and brakes. I can see how you are questioning it, as the water tank that is in-between the wheels makes it look like a full axle goes through there.

      Roughly 40k from a dealership back in mid 2023. Pricey, I know, but you get what you pay for.

    Another question is, how is your experience camping in with the trailer on winter condition. Thanks

    • @thistediouspath
      @thistediouspath  7 місяців тому +2

      We've had it out in cold temps but we wouldn't consider those 'winter conditions'. It was below freezing one night for like 4 hours but we had the Truma Combi Eco heater going in the Summit, so it wasn't too bad. We are kind of nomadic snow birds - so we try to avoid winter camping!

    how much load are those tires rated for? you don't need big wheels for idling wheels. the aesthetic of this teardrop makes it look like you would expect it to be armor-plated for those combat situations you find yourself in.

    • @thistediouspath
      @thistediouspath  8 місяців тому +3

      @kevinwelsh7490
      The trailer unloaded weighs 1,820 lbs. Its GVWR is 3,500 lbs, which I think would be difficult to get to. It's all Aluminum including the skid plate 'armor' - though not including the frame. The tires are Nokian Outpost All Terrain rated at 3,197 lbs. More than enough.
      No tacti-cool here, bud. I wouldn't really consider the Summit a tear drop trailer either, it's made for boondocking in hard to reach remote places via rugged trails. Hence its rugged look. You can beat the hell out of this thing and it will probably out last the 4Runner its being towed by. Check out some of our other videos to see where we go with a trailer and maybe that will clear it up?

      The wheels and tires match his vehicle, so they effectively have two spares either for trailer or SUV. It makes it easier overall having it all the same.

  • @jachri

    Tongue weight is 10% of gross trailer weight

    • @thistediouspath
      @thistediouspath  5 місяців тому +3

      @jachri Right. That's a good starting point. But when you add after market stuff that's not in the GVW like; two full 5.5 Gallon jerry cans and brackets (100lbs), 2 10lb propane tanks, a 20lb propane tank, a 10lb fire pit and a 60+ lb spare tire - all to the front end, that number goes up. The next time we head out fully geared up I'm going to weigh the truck and trailer with the trailer wheels off the scale, then just the 4Runner. The difference should give me an actual tongue weight. Thanks for reading my TED Talk. ;)
