I recommend Roadhouse Blues by the Doors, you just heard Ray Manzarek (r.i.p.) on keyboards.
Second that, for Roadhouse.
"Horror story in a jazz club." Genius statement. Lol. I'm gonna write that song.
Jimbo saw chaos as a natural part of order.
The Doors - LIGHT MY FIRE (1967). This original song from 54 years ago is still played on the radio today.
One of the Best Rock Songs of All Time!👌
I think that calling a Doors song a horror story in a jazz club is probably the best, and most unique, description of their music that I have ever heard. I subscribed immediately after hearing that, because DAMN dog; you nailed 'em. The Doors are unique; at that time, most bands were about trippy, light topics; the Doors went dark and they hit it dead center. Their stuff holds up well; they were rock but had a lot of blues and jazz influence; Led Zepp was a blues band with a rock problem, but they didn't have the Jazzy stuff. A lot of that was because Jim Morrison considered himself a poet, so he pointed himself towards 'bohemian' things (including jazz), which obviously worked for the Doors. You picking up on this listening to the Doors blind impressed the hell out of me. Really fun!
Thanks fam
I'm glad to hear someone talking about the rest of the band beyond Jim Morrison because they are all excellent. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore.
There are a lot of great Doors songs. One of my favorites is "Strange Days".
The musicians of the Doors were awesome and put up with a lot from Morrison to make their music known. They were ultimately let down by Morrison's addictions. Sad to have such great talent squashed by drugs.
I saw Robby Krieger play Live at Otto's in DeKalb IL. back in 2001. I stood 8 feet away while he played for 2-1/2 hours. Amazing show. $12 cover to see him in a club of 300 people. Amazing night.
Absolutely! 👍the whole band is awesome!👌
THE DOORS, "RIDERS ON THE STORM". A MASTERPIECE WITHOUT QUESTION. MORE... "ROADHOUSE BLUES", "L.A. WOMAN", "THE END".
Jim Morrison was a trippy guy , so trippy they made a movie about him 🤘
Roadhouse Blues is a good one
Doors are way cool. Check out LA Woman first. And Roadhouse Blues. Touch Me. When You're Strange. All great songs. And have you ever listened to Def Leopard? If not, Pour Some Sugar On Me. Or try REM, Everybody Hurts. The Black Crowes, Hard To Handle. There's a lot of great bands out there.
Why in the world would you recommend DLs most popular and arguably the one of the top 5 most overplayed songs from the 80s? Recommend REAL Def Leppard like Foolin’, Bringin on The Heartbreak, Saturday Night high n dry, or Too Late For Love
@@hughjoelcock7145 because it's his first time listening. Of course I would tell him to start there. I like all the songs you mentioned, and Rocket, too, but first time hearing you gotta go big.
@@patclark3024 EVERYBODY under the sun has heard " Pour some sugar on me " whether you wanted too or not! That song`s so overplayed!. REAL Def Leppard is pre Hysteria
Break On Through, The End, People Are Strange
Very good choices!
Nice introductory list; I would just add Waiting for the Sun...
Love Street too
Yeah man. If you're really interested--- Doors is one of the Super bands that has a catalog full of great shit!! The other texters, yes listen.
The Doors, "Roadhouse Blues", "L.A.Woman", "Texas Radio & The Big Beat", "Break On Through", "Twentieth Century Fox". All bangers.
Elvis' bassist, Jerry Scheff, played on this song. Good reaction. Next Doors song....The WASP.
The line where Jim says “Into this world we’re thrown” refers to a philosophical viewpoint called “Throwiness”. I’m still amazed to this day how wise and intelligent the Doors were.
Roadhouse Blues, LA women, Light my fire. Great Rabbit Hole!😁❤️
Best natural baritone voice in the world.
A good classic song. One of many by the Doors.
I love The Doors! All their albums were fantastic. Some more classic Doors I'd recommend: 'Roadhouse Blues', 'Love Her Madly', 'Waiting for the Sun''
I've been OBSESSED with Jim Morrison most of my life, my parents were very engulfed in the 60s, my Dad fought in Vietnam and my mom protested the Vietnam War, so I was raised on The Doors. He tragically died at 27 from drugs but he was an incredible lyricist. And he was BEAUTIFUL 😍
So many great songs to choose from! “Love Her Madly, Roadhouse Blues, Light My Fire” would be a great start 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jim Morrison was as much a poet as we was a "rock star" The thing about The Doors to me was the way that Ray and Robbie framed Jim's words like the jewels they were.
Ray Manzarek's jazz infused riffs and the unmistakable Fender Rhoades "88" piano run through a Leslie speaker (how did he come up with THAT idea?) is still one of the most influential keyboard tracks ever recorded. Not hyperbole at all, either.
They had a bloke called Jerry Scheff from Elvis Presley's "TCB Band" come in to play the bassline. If I remember it, Ray & Robbie actually wrote the main framework of the song including the bass part and Scheff just added his own "flair" to the final track.
Jim Morrison took the name The Doors from the book "The Doors of Perception" by Aldus Huxley. There are literally hundreds of references to literature throughout The Doors lyrics. I think Morrison would have been quite happy to have retired to "the writers life" in Paris. Unfortunately he never got the chance. He died in Paris at the age of 27 on the 3rd of July, 1971. Morrison was the third in a trio of legendary rockers deaths that occurred in the span of only 10 months or so. Jimi Hendrix in September and Janis Joplin in October of 1970 also at the age of 27 made the mythical "27 Club" infamous. Kurt Cobain would add to their ranks in 1994.
This song is from The Doors last studio record, L.A. Woman and I have come to think of it as Jim's good-bye letter to California and to America. That is entirely my own opinion, but it is not unique. I do hope that this 'inside baseball' (behind the music?) stuff helps to expand your horizons. After 60 something years of listening to this music it's kind of nice to share it, that mush I can tell you.
You're intuition is good. You're born into a family and thrown into the world without experience, but when you fake your death and begin anew you have no family and lots of experience. An actor out on loan is like saying I'm playing a part in someone else's movie. "Killer on the road" he killed the persona of Jim Morrison, "his brain is squirming like a toad", he was scared, "take a long holiday" just what he did, "let your children play" leave people alone, "if you give this man a ride" put him in jail, "sweet family will die", his family and friends would be devastated. The album is laid out like the Kensington Ruin Stone, every word and its placement means something. He equated himself to a storm, the first to words on the album "I live" the last two "the storm".
My god this is so enjoyable thank you both for the knowledge gentleman!👌👍👍👍
“When the music’s over” for a Doors trip. All their songs are journeys out there. Out of body experiences. Enjoy!
The Doors are essential listening. They were huge! Great band, classic American blues rock laced with rambling beat poetry. They have a super catalog of tunes. Lots of quality in pretty much every song they recorded, and many hits, so a lot to pick from. LA Woman?
"A horror story in a jazz club!" 😁
The Doors were completely unique. Hello I love You, Roadhouse, Break on Through, Love Her Madly, Light My Fire, The End...
The Doors are one of the greatest. Please do more!! We are all riders on the storm of life....
I will definitely do more
LA woman and Roadhouse Blues are good ones by The Doors.
If you want to respect real music such as the Doors, you must listen to it the way we had to. The full album front to back. I recommend Morrison Hotel
x100
Agreed
Biz, I listen to this song all the time when I'm driving. The keyboardist is a genus. Listen to how he imitates the sound of the rain on those keys.
The Doors are worth exploring more, The End, When The Music's Over, Cars Hiss By My Window and many more
Ray and his Rhoades...just perfection
No kidding about Zoning Out. Laying in my bed, lights turned off, eyes closed, that bass lead and drums putting me into the Zone, and then just went with the song to where ever it took me. That was 40 years ago. Thanks for posting.
Excellent choice 👍
🤘🏿
react to Crystal Ship
I always loved the use of a whisper track to go with the main vocal. Once you hear it, you can’t unhear it! Very creative...
I've been listening the Doors for decades!
Moreover, I grew up with their music!
This is the best definition of part of their music ever uttered:
"A horror story in a jazz club ..."
Congratulations on what you said man!
💯 "LA Woman" next PLEASE!? 🔥🤘
This is "driving west on I-40 through New Mexico in August, with thunderstorms hundreds of miles away off to your left and right at dusk" music. One of the most relaxing and beautiful drives and feelings.
That was the best description I've heard of this song. I heard this music since it came out. I was in my mom's stomach hearing this. the lyrics were creepy and they kinda disturbed me. I heard these lyrics as I learned to talk and I couldn;t quite comprehend it all I could sense it was dark. Mixed in with soothing music the lyrics so dark make The Doors one of the best bands of all time.
You gotta do a deep dive in their discography, most of their songs are phenomenal
We used to pick up hitchhikers in the 70's and 60's. When I think back to cars I got into, I am glad I am alive. Jim Morrison was a dark, dark man which is obvious in this song. He was a poet and there are so many great songs to listen to. Unfortunately, he died at 27 years old just as some of our other great rockers did ie: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin.
The Doors self titled debut album is one of the greatest albums ever. You should check it out.
LA woman, Light My Fire, so many. Love the doors. Also I do have to say that Jim Morrison was a beautiful man!
One of the best stereo mixes of all time!
This song always sent chills down my spine. The mood is dark and creepy
The Doors were serious students of jazz, blues and flamenco, so their music has an elegance, a maturity, and a variety no other sixties band had.
THE REAL HORROR STORY IS THE GUYS THAT OPENED FOR THE DOORS. ALICE COOPER
Alice is the best. All the girls love Alice Cooper.
One of the great intros!!!
3:01 You got it right, Jazz and horror.
One you are sure to love is Gloria by the Doors.
A horror story in a jazz club with the mad organist. Totally the doors. I hope you can hear Robbie. On the guitar
"This sounds like a horror story in a jazz club."
LOL!
Also, “The End” and “Light My Fire” which put them on the map.
Road House Blues should be next and LA Woman... Thanks for this. Deep rabbit hole that will take you on a musical magical journey.
This song is one of the greatest songs EVER RECORDED! Just a thought... this was recorded in LA in December of 1970 and the Lyrics are more poetic now than they were than. The poet and singer, JIM MORRISON.
The Doors...aight....one of the strangest combos to come along.....poetry blues precision and chaos blended.
good introduction for you with this band, incredible amount of talent with a vast catalogue of music.
really can't go wrong wherever you start next but my two cents says "Peace Frog" .........
Yeah the doors are worth a look! I like ‘when the musics over’, ‘the end’ and ‘LA woman’
Lead singer Jim Morrison RIP passed away in 1971, in Paris. Only 27 years old. He belongs to the "27" club, along with Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, plus plus
Morrison was the 'COOLEST' of all rock stars.....The whole package! Now YOU know. I'm 70 grew up on this, in the 60's we hitched a ride all the time, and felt compelled to pick up hitch-hikers all the time. It all ended (free love ect.) in 69 with C. Manson and his little 'tribe' of "psyco-honey's". Wonder if he's RIP-in. ps. Thanks Chuck
Yep. You liked that. You will like more.
The Best band, Best singer, Best musiciens
Pretty sure they had no bass player, the keyboard player played the bassline on the keys!!
They sometimes used one in the studio.
Many to choose from and they're all so good. Check out LA Woman, Break on Through, Roadhouse Blues, and Light My fire to get you started.
3:16 I picked up a hitchhiker once. I was in my early 20's and naive. Was traveling on I-94 from Fargo to Minneapolis, in my 1981 GMC pickup. It was about halfway between. Don't know why I stopped. It was a guy my age. Once he was in the cab he scrunched into passenger seat panel and was jittery. I can't remember what we talked about, except that I found out he was trying to get to Hudson, WI about sixty mile further then where I was going. I drove him there, just to help him out. Years later I now understand why he was jittery and scrunched against the door panel. I just did it as an act of naive kindness. Could never pick up a hitchhiker now because my dogs always ride with me.
Oh wow
@@watchbizmatik I drive used Ford Rangers now. There is a always a dog sitting on the passenger seat and a dog in the double cab space behind the seats. Don't have to feel sorry for people on the highway.
Roadhouse Blues is my favorite Doors tune! You love it because it oozes blues!
The Doors were great! They did a lot of great music. Give them some research. Jim Morrison was a poet. Try “L.A. Woman”
I first heard this song when I was 10, and I felt like I was listening to the voice of Satan. The song is actually terrifying, especially at that age, and I knew I wasn't supposed to be listening to it. It's one of my favorites now.
Goodness- I hope you didn’t listen to “ The End”!!
@@TheDivayenta LOL, not until much later!
Good thing you didn’t listen to the end! Ha.
@@TheDivayenta ok...I just responded that...the first time I heard that song..well I won’t go into details, but i was dating this dude and thought my god..he’s bazaar! But learned to love the song.
If you listen to it very closely again you’ll hear Jim Morrison whispering the lyrics at the same time he is singing. I’m sure they had multiple vocal loops layered within the song
Not everyone picks up on that.
Check out “Light My Fire” , long version by the Doors. Greatest rock song of all time
This is a great Doors classic!
Jim Morrison was a genius,,,,,,, welcome to The DOORS,,,,, it's one hell of a ride !!!!!
Jim Morrison was one of those artists who died at age 27. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Corbain, Amy Winehouse and others. Think of all the amazing music that was never be sung! The Doors had this unique sound. When you hear a few bars, you know it’s the Doors!
Old stone road ,she smells so nice and my wild love. But hey you can do no wrong with any DOORS song. Great video by the way thanks stay safe and healthy PEACE
A horror story in a jazz club! Really, Biz, that was brilliant. Thanks for the laughs and then more laughs.
It doesn’t matter what year it’s from they are just so talented. I never put a year on music because every generation has wonderful music.
Doors ROCK! Try the song Peace Frog. Weird name but great song!
As far as suggestions for what to listen to next:
"Break On Through (To The Other Side)"
"Twentieth Century Fox"
"Back Door Man" (Willie Dixon cover)
"People Are Strange"
"Not To Touch the Earth"
"Tell All the People"
"Shaman's Blues"
"Roadhouse Blues"
"Waiting For the Sun"
"Ship of Fools"
The L.A. Woman record. You don't need to do a reaction to every track, of course. But it is worth the 45 minutes of your time to sit down with a good set of headphones and listen to it start to finish. it is one of a handful of such albums that I, personally, think every music fan should to that with at least once in their lives.
You forgot "The End". He can save that for the end of your list.
The Crystal Ship
@@adamtiger9443 Good catch. I had to go back and read by list again. I can't believe I missed it.
@@j.h.3777 I actually debated that one with myself and decided that "in The End" is 200 level course material. Although truth to tell, I'd likely have said the same about "Riders on the Storm" too.
A jazz horror story umm yes I think you described Jim quite well 🤔😳👍♥️
They called him the lizard King. Val kilmer was great at being Jim Morrison. Love street is a great song. ✌️❤️
Jim Morrison's father was my commanding officer in the Navy. I was very much aware of that at the time. It was 1968-69.
I've got some random songs for you to check out: I Just Want To Celebrate by Rare Earth, Black Magic Woman by Santana, Brother Louie by Stories, Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd and Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull. Can't wait to see your face when you hear these!
EVERY SONG THE DOORS DID WAS AWESOME!
The Doors were the first 3 piece blues band with no bass player. They were ahead of their time.
Got into old age before I could appreciate what I grew up with. Glad you can "get it" at a much younger age. Love your reactions!
The Doors have so many shades of differing styles. From jazzy rock, to blues and jazz, to psychedelic, to classical jazz- rock. You name it. Try psychedelic 'Strange Days', and one of their earliest psychedelic songs, 'Crystal Ship', or bluesy rock, 'Waiting for the Sun', or more blues 'Cars Hiss by my Window', and jazz- rock hit, 'Light my Fire'.
Glad you enjoyed it. It’s an undisputed classic. But tell me.... is Manzarek‘s solo blues or jazz?
One of the great bands......seriously good. A rabbit hole awaits you.
What a style, the doors many styles but always easy to recognize at the first note, so particular rhythm and melody...
Check out Light My Fire.
I laughed because I have this on my road trip playlist. Killer tune!
So ahead of their time!
Try “Light My Fire” their biggest hit.
Their song The End is the real treat. Something for your brain to be truly fascinated by as you listen. But you know what? Instead let your suspense for it grow, by doing something else first. Save that piece of odd dessert for later. LA Woman is a very cool song.
Yes, the Doors are worth checking out.
The End live at the Hollywood Bowl. THE BEST!
There is a movie about Jim Morison and the Doors. It is interesting to watch. Jim knew what sound he was looking for. Val Kilmer played Jim and did a fantastic job. Even looked like him.
The Doors are totally dope!!! One of my all time favs!!!👍✌😎
LA Woman or Roadhouse Blues are great to start at. You want to get into some deep stuff listen to This Is The End.
Hi Biz, just watched this and coincidentally, I'm wearing a Jim Morrison tank top. We also have a picture on the wall with Jim's face, and Baby light my fire! Yes, Light my fire was their huge hit and has been covered by many.
The Doors(of perception). A huge rabbit hole. My suggestion, please watch The Doors movie starring Val Kilmer. You'll understand everything much better. Val Kilmer got so deep into the character that he did his own singing
Thank you Spotify-keep opening the Door
Lol
