Samara Joy was the singer most like those in the grand Sarah Vaughan tradition. She showed extraordinary control, admirable intonation, perfect enunciation, no affectation, and a lyrical inventiveness (especially at the close of "Jim") that reminded me of Sarah.
As a Proud Pittsburgher who knew Benny’s fabulous grand dad who was a masterful trumpet player and his dad who is a fantastic sax/clarinet man, Benny III is a wonderful, tremendous musician deserving of international recognition. I knew him as a child and now a fabulous jazz musician!! Congrats!! Benny III
Benny is already one of the most brilliant, accomplished and - mostly - generous jazz musician of our time. It would be very nice to follow his career.
Sorry, I didn't quite get the decision to not have a first place winner, and have two finalists tie for 2nd place. Can't imagine the conversation the judges must have had about not being able to choose a number one. All the finalists were good singers, and I'm not sure what criteria they used that left the number one spot blank.
1:25:18 He actually said a tie for "first" place. I agree with you on the fact there shouldn't be a tie. Maybe they were missing a trophy for the 2nd place, so they avoided it...
All good, all show great promise. If I have any criticism it's that there is a modern tendency towards affectation. When you have as much talent as these finalists have, you don't have to show off vocal gymnastics.
I adore Sarah Vaughan I try to sing some of her music although I'm not a professional singer🤭 but you can listen to it on my UA-cam page tell me what you think jazz you can be yourself and music is the spirit of the soul coming out to reach the world with love and affection ❤️

I saw Samara live in France, the audience was so blown away by her that they were too shy to applause her... She's amazingly skilled!
Cavassa was my fav of the contestants, great singing by all tho without a doubt.

Benny. Such talent!
He's one of the few musicians I can't stand. His attitude, his manners, he seems to be so full of himself!
