Morphemes can be classified into two main types:
Free morphemes
Bound Morphemes
Free Morphemes: These are standalone words that make sense on their own.
Example: "Dog" - "Dog" can be used by itself to talk about that furry animal.
Example: "Book" - "Book" makes sense all on its own.
Bound Morphemes: These are like little pieces that attach to free morphemes to change their meaning or use.
Prefixes: These go at the beginning of words.
Example: "Un-" - Adding "un-" to "happy" changes it to "unhappy," meaning not happy.
Suffixes: These go at the end of words.
Example: "-ly" - Adding "-ly" to "quick" gives "quickly," changing the word into an adverb.
Infixes: These are rare and go inside words.
Example (Tagalog): "Kin-" - In Tagalog, adding "kin-" inside "ain" changes the verb "to eat" into past tense, "kinain."
