I'm glad you clarified the situation regarding the manufacture of the steel beams because we in the UK have forgotten more about steel making than the rest of the world put together will ever know.
Easy to get crossed wires when on site tours. It was more straightforward for Effiage to use their own metals division. But as I mentioned UK manufacturers are fabricating steelwork for HS2
Effiage part of EKFB has its own steel fabricator in France, there was enough capacity in the UK but it was always going to be made in house. Cleveland Bridge the largest uk bridge fabricator went bankrupt due to lack of work, the decision to build in France had nothing to do with lack of UK capacity.
I can’t wait to see HS2 completed before 2030. If only it was to extend from Birmingham Curzon Street to Manchester and the rest of the North of England.
Do you mean foreign contractors? Foreign companies like Eiffage may be involved but so far over 70% of the contracts to supply materials and services have going to UK suppliers.
I still think that HS2 should go to Manchester and the North of England. As well extending to London Euston where it will start and end at London Euston. I was thinking if HS2 could have been built in the late 2000s and completed by 2024/25. But now it’s expecting to be completed by around 2028/29 or 2030+.
I live in wendover you really need to know what sort of damage it's doing to the roads and the 3.5 ton weight limits over canal bridges were dump trucks are taking short cuts through neighboring villages the public have been fooled again 😢
I do wish a little less emphasis was put on aesthetics for the project. A lot of time and money could be saved by making things simpler, as well as manufacturing risk for the components.
I wonder how much leeway the contractors have, between DfT specification and local authority interventions. It seems everyone gets a say before anything gets built. I'm not sure how much more expensive the Small Dean Viaduct would be just because of the fins, which are also there to support the parapets.
@@Rail_Focus I would suspect having a simpler, single bridge span design would save a decent bit of the cost of this individual part of HS2; "bespoke" and "unique" are usually synonymous with inflated costs. No, it wouldn't save that much individually, but taken together a lot of little inflationary pressures like this represent a lot of money and additional labor time. I understand that sometimes these things are forced on the project by outside concerns, but I rather disagree with their necessity.
It is very ugly, HS2 hsave cause hours on funnecessary road closures and delays on the A413 in Wendover making them hated by locals can't wait for them to leave the area after several years sitting in hours of traffic caused by thier selfish traffic lights set up to benefit thier stsaff. This is hideously ugly. YET more days of a majhor road closed with diversions miles long and no exception for emergenycy vehicles - And what do the people of Aylesbury do when the railways is closed - oh go from Amersham - nope can't get there either as the road wil lbe closed. We are trapped by HS2 who do not minimise disruption and hassle.
@@Rail_Focus more could be done they choose the options that suit them best not which are a comprimise or relieve the issues - The A413 closure even block emergency vehicles and HS2 don't give a crap about the implications.

Great detailed video
Thank you 😊
The engineering on this line is amazing. I can't wait to see it finished
The engineering is incredible, it's good to see structures finally starting to take shape.
Perhaps you could go into more detail as to why so many different construction methods are being used on viaducts along the route
I've been toying with the idea of spending like this
Making the two bridges look differently 'iconic' from the view of road users is exactly how this project cost £100bn
£66bn. Adding a few fins is hardly going to balloon the cost.

I would've thought they looked at all the options.
Another great video - many thanks!
Thanks, glad you liked it 🙂
And smell those horrid diesel fumes !

extend from Birmingham Curzon Street to Manchester and the rest of the North of England.
For now we'll just have to keep everything crossed that it's built from Euston to Crewe. All eyes on the upcoming budget
Do you know how much of the whole HS2 project will go to foreign companies? Thanks.
Do you mean foreign contractors? Foreign companies like Eiffage may be involved but so far over 70% of the contracts to supply materials and services have going to UK suppliers.
@@Rail_Focus Of course they employ a lot of local people so I was interested how much of the profits go abroad. Thanks.

Contractors on a cost plus contract absolutely raking it in..... cost totaly out of control
@@keviinkl DfT set it that way. Contractors largely building what the DfT dictates.
Thanks. Nicely explained.
Thank you 😀
You’ve had some super access to these sites. I can see why locals hate the disruption but once it’s finished, that hopefully will be forgotten!
I have been fortunate these past few months, it's been great to see the structures taking shape.
When will phase 1be operacional? Whats up with euston
The opening window for Phase 1 between Birmingham and Old Oak Common is 2029-2033. I'm not sure when Euston will open though
This timeline is still in place between 5 and 9 years

another good post _ looking forward to your next footage

Not a lot that can be done, it's construction, sometimes it causes disruption.
🙄
It's not that bad and most road closures are warned about in advance.

This is why the project is so expensive
It does not need experience to see the HS2 is a colossal waste of money
Glad the bit from birmingham to crewe will not go ahead.
🙄
@connorjacques2740 how deluded can you be 🤣
🤷
But the existing line between London and Birmingham will be up to 30 minutes slower - call that a waste of money ??? Yep.
