lovely video Davie, hope it's the first of many this season. Water looks in good condition even if the temperatures are a bit below, but nice to see fish starting to move.

Lovely videos, the tempo of them is the best, not all catching fish. Stunning scenery and great tips, will put to good use, thanks 🙏

Useful reminders of the techniques to be employed when the going is tough but the weather makes for a good day out on the water, thanks for encouraging me to join you on the water!

Eventually got round to watching the video, brilliant as usual. The quality is excellent. I feel like I'm on the water with you.
Beautiful stretch of river and some cracking brownies caught. Keep up the great work 👍

Superb Davie. I was at Enterkine for a couple of hours that day, was plenty rising when I got to the river, but typically it all stopped as I was tackling up. Still, just great to be on the water again, seeing some nice fish rising around tarholm, hopefully this east wind leaves us and brings some warmer air. Tight lines sir.

Great video Davie, I was down at tarholm bridge today managed 8 in total on the synthetic quill nymph the same one you tied a while back! I found they were in the head of the pools. Looking forward to seeing some more videos. All the best

All that wild garlic you walked through at the start, pick a few bunches, clean and blanch in boiling water for 60 seconds, fantastic with spuds and any meat, your missing out Davy, great for the heart, blood pressure, and full of vitamins.

      Hi Mel Morda,
To be honest when I was walking through it the smell of the wild garlic did make me think how is the best way to use it as it is everywhere at this time of year..I'm going to try your recipe so I'll let you know what I think and thank you..
      All the very best Davie

Lovely to see clear water. I fished opening day on the Wiltshire Avon today and it was over the banks in places, charging through and the colour of mushroom soup. Managed a wee brownie on a small streamer to save the blank.

Great stuff. And for those who believe it must be upstream dry only, and to seen rising fish - this day was a lesson in itself. If you can't see fish rising, then you can still fish the river. Because he was flexible in his approch, Davie was able to say he enjoyed the day.

Greetings from Norway Mr Flyguru, nice to see you doing a few casts, here where i live basicly on the bank of the Gaula the river has a white very hard surface so just testing new rods and lines is still slightly challenging but we are able to in the very low part near the river mouth.

Great to see another of these fishing videos Davie!
It's been helpful to me as I sometimes struggle a bit in the early season - I'm also guilty of jumping right in and casting, casting, casting, and not paying enough attention to what's going on with the river.
Your videos inspired me to take a leaf out your book and take my time, slow down and enjoy being out on the water - and it paid off, I caught my first brownie of the season a couple of days ago (using an Olive Jingler tied as per one of your other videos, I might add!)
Thanks for all that you do Davie, all the best and tight lines!

Hi Davey. Nice day on the stream to share with us. I fished last week here in NJ USA and picked up 5 rainbows on an elk hair caddis taken as a small black stonefly. We’re just getting started here too. Thanks for showing us your stream and some brownies. Best wishes. Tom T from NJ.

Really pleased you got such a nice day for your first trip out. In North Yorks the waterhen bloa is normally a reliable early season fly, particularly when there is a hatch of large dark olives. Lovely brownies in the net 👍

Nice day on the river. Bravo! I always enjoy seeing how and where other anglers do it in different parts of the world. I've enjoyed your tying vids for many years now and am pleased to see you in the water. Was the water you were fishing public? Day ticket? Club water? I'm aware that fishing in Scotland and the UK can be quite different than what I experience here in the States. Fare thee well, Davie.

Hi Davie love your videos but my dad back in the day when the rivers where full of fish , especially here in Wales and the Sewyn where running you could walk across the water on their backs he would say ,well he always used to pick me up on the way I carried my rod as he told me never to carry it with the rod sticking out in front ,always carry it with it sticking out behind you as sooner or later you are going to walk into a bank ,gate ,tree that will lsnap your tip in a heart beat

    Great vid Davie!
What would you say is your go to dry flee and go to wet flee on the river? Perhaps a daft question as I suppose it depends on the conditions and situation?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Рік тому +2

      Morning Allan,
Traditional wets like the Waterhen Bloa, Partridge and Orange, Woodcock and Hare's Ear and the Snipe and Purple would be my best wets at this time of year and dries like the Olive Quill, Grey Quill, Lark and Grey and March Brown tyed in the traditional styles just using hackles and wing quills but tying them with CDC or Deer Hair or even combing both can make for a really good patterns but also tying a few in the Dynamite Harry style is certainly worth having as it has caught me many fish over the last few seasons..
      All the very best Davie

      Hi Sonja,
The cast was around 10ft or so , what I do is to pull off two lengths of the widths of my arms and then I would put the dropper in the middle..I'm glad you enjoyed the video..
