I used to be good friends with a bird farmer (she farms them for shows and eggs, not food) and she had silky hens and they were super sweet, these birds actually have personality unlike most birds and are by far my favorite type of chicken, you might think I’ll be complaining how you ate it, but actually I’d like to thank you for educating people on things like this, I just wanted to tell a story lol
They're awesome birds. I am getting back into them after owning other breeds who could fly. They became menaces to my elderly neighbor and her cats at feeding time, so I went back to silkies and Indian runner ducks. Non-flyers that can be kept fenced easily. My runners are skittish but the silkies are the friendliest little things. Aren't bothered by the kids or dog. As long as they can be kept safe from predators they're a joy to have. And the girls go broody and make great moms.
Fun fact: A black chicken, also known as the Ayam Cemani, can be found in Indonesia. This rare chicken breed is entirely black from head to toe (and everything in between)! Greenfire Farms said that "not only are their feathers and skin a dark hue, but their bones, muscles and organs are even black!

I have some of these chickens in my house, they are very interesting! They are called "silkies" because their fethers aren´t exactly feathers, it´s like a bunch of fluff, almost like wool. They can be black, white or even blue, and fun fact: they have five fingers, when chickens usually only have four. They´re so cute and SO friendly, they make very good pets!
My dad has had silkies for years. He still has 2. They both were bred and hatched by his chickens. They both are about 3 years old and their parents are long gone.
My Mom raised chickens as a hobby when I was a kid, back in the 90s. She enjoyed the free eggs but would also butcher them from time to time. She had silkies and knew they had blue meat, so she butchered one once. It was strange but in a really cool way. And as this guys says, yeah, it tastes like chicken.
My mom had silkie and americauna chickens when I was growing up and she named the fluffy white hen Zsa Zsa Gabor, a beautiful black hen was Elizabeth Taylor, and the most handsome rooster was Rudolph Valentino! There were more , of course, and they also lay the most beautiful eggs too. Very sweet and friendly birds. We would bye eggs for hatching and butchering because my mom couldnt besr to butcher a beautiful chicken, the regular kind of chicken was just fine to eat though.
