The latest Bachmann's are approaching Scale Trains Pricing-especially here in Canada, without the details, lighting etc. My GP-40 and GP-38 are nice little units, but no where near the sophistication of my Scale Trains and Rapido locomotives bought for simliar amounts.
We run HO Scale. We ( my two extremely young grandsons and autistic step son) run alot of Bachmann. We run trains. Most our stuff isn't scaled correctly but alot of matchbox cars, trucks. Even have some ready mix trucks. Bachmann seems durable for the HO Scale side. Love your videos you do great work. Hope you enjoy the holidays
Jimmy, sometimes I think you have no idea what your posts mean to us man! Such a trusted voice in the community. Please keep em rollin (see what I did there?)
Fun vid and great loco! I really like my 2 Bachmann GP40's. I like how you can choose 3 prime movers and choose the non turbo diesel and it is more pleasing to my ears without the whining engine. The couplers make yard work very easy. Thanks for the video
Hi Jimmy, Drinking Ripafratta brand Kona blend coffee. I have to agree with a previous comment that the coupler doesn't appear to be level with the rolling stock. Needs to be shimmed down or change the coupler entirely.
Fully agreed. Being N scale, that amount of coupler height difference between the Bachmann coupler and a standard (what appears to be a truck mounted) Microtrains coupler is a serious concern. That much of a difference could spell uncoupling trouble for those with less than perfect trackwork.
I bought a bachmann CSX Gp40-2 a while back on ebay and absolutely love it. it was relatively cheap (around $90 USD cause i don't use DCC). and runs and looks wonderful. If i can ever find a non dcc CSX version of this model i'm 100% gonna pick it up.
I'm drinking Kroger brand Private Selection of some variety, but I've dropped two pieces of Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark in the bottom before pouring, so it's got a bit of a peppermint mocha flavor. I've been mostly pleased with my Bachmann rolling stock. I've also got a Graham Farish (Bachmann) BR 5MT 73050 loco that I really like. I run it around the club layout here in the states and it gets so many comments not just being some old American steam engine. They always find something to equate it to, Thomas, Gordon, Polar Express, Harry Potter, etc.
It does seem to be rather...high, I think it was. I've got maybe two pieces of Bachmann rolling stock and they don't really hang on well, coming uncoupled more often than others. I'd definitely see if it was possible to use different couplers on this, similar to removing the bad ones that come on Kato locos. Well, bad if you're running anything other than Kato. Micro Trains couplers come with the boxes and have under and overslung to match with most, so if it'll fit, chances are you could find some that more accurately match up.
Managed to get my hands on an absurd amount of starbucks' Milano Luna blend, so I'm gonna be sippin on that for the next few months. Today it's cold-brewed.
Hey Jimmy. For an upcoming video or a q an d a, could you discuss an easy and stress free way of converting horn hook couplers to knuckle couplers. And do you replace the plastic pins that attach the trucks to the frame with metal screws? And if so, how? what size? What size tap? I have had several cars derail because the pin fell out.
Great video Jimmy! I agree Bachmann has come a long way. I think their HO scale train sets are what is still hurting their reputation. If they made their HO train sets to the same standard as current N scale sets, they would be a lot better off. N scale you get metal wheels on the cars and nickel silver track. HO is still plastic wheels and steel track with ugly roadbed.
Tonight I’m drinking “ 24 Mantra Ginger Tumeric Tea”…Personally I have steered clear of Bachmann, due to purchases in the past… (primarily Amazon) but now I realize that I was purchasing entry level locomotives… But I think that I’ll try again
I wish the volume was louder on it- I bought a sugar cube speaker to put in it but its not going to fit- the sounds and I love the loco- I just wished it was louder(I turned the CV master volume control all the way up to 255) and I turned up all the controls to 255 as well- yours sounds much louder than mine on this video? I assume thats a Soundtraxx Econami decoder?
Bachman used to be on par with LifeLike and Tyco (that's not a good thing), they've now stepped their game up. Not in the elite class, but a really good mix of budget-friendly and detail/quality.
I just wish Soundtrack would market an upgrade for the original SoundValue (non-Econami) decoders. I personally would buy 4 but George is an HO modeler so they're just not interested.
My only issue with Bachmann is that their price point is almost the same as (and sometimes even more expensive) than Scale Trains and BLI, and for something with less detail (this locomotive doesn't seem to have tread texture on its walkways for example) and functionality (the coupler height seems to *barely* be in-gauge). Bachmann has undoubtedly come a long way but things like this will keep me on Kato and Scale Trains for now.
Please stop putting so many ads in your videos. I am a legacy viewer and I appreciate you are making it work but 0:17 to 1:17 is advertising, and the video itself feels like an ad. Not to mention the video description where I went to find information is filled with links to spend money.
Please Jimmy your content is great but please cancel auto-dubbing, the robot voice youtube use is just awful and i can t listen you in english, it force it in VERY BAD French😅 thanks you for your videos Jimmy. Sorry for my butched english 😅
Another peep upset at n scale pricing. It's way overpriced. I do n scale, ho, o, and g. Why? So I can find the best deals on any particular loco. $500 or more for N steam loco?? No thanks. I go w O gauge for anything over 200.00 You get a much nicer detail and amazing sound and smoke. There is no justification for these mega expensive trains. The used markets are flooded w great options. Even dcc ho can be found used at reasonable pricing. N scale vendors think they have gold. No logic to it. Try t scale. Talk about insanity!!!

Agreed.
Bachmann really has come a long way from thier offerings in the late 90s, early 2000s.
I was going to say the same thing.

the coupler height does not match up, it looks like it could come apart with a slight grade.

Lavazza dark with a splash of St.Brendens…. 😄👍
Is the locomotive coupler way too high or is every car in the train too low?

In an incredible turn of events, Bachmann locomotives are now more reliable than actual Norfolk Southern locomotives.
😆
If you have the other manufacturers' SD-40-2's it would be really neat to see them side by side.

My Bachmann are my favorite, Atlas a close 2nd
For me it’s
1)Kato
2)Micro Trains
3)Athearn
4)Atlas
5)Bachmann
While more budget minded, life like is also rather decent and the locomotives all have a good weight to them
@@ironhorsehistorian9871
1) Broadway Limited
2) Kato
3 ) Atlas
4) Lifelike (I have 3 that run so smoothly )
5)Bachmann

Hey Jimmy! I 'm drinking Dr. Pepper!
Beware! Bachmann only honors their warranty if you buy in a store. Won't if bought from eBay or the internet.
Better Belly Dark Roast (low acid .. great brew!)
Drinking Grounds and Hounds Snow Day Blend.

5 different brands making -2's...and yet nobody makes a N scale or HO box cab switcher... GO FIGURE.
