The late, great Alan Young's performance as the eternally hip but geriatric Mr. Phipps was the only saving grace of this otherwise lackluster episode, which was a virtual, dead-on remake of the "Saved By The Bell: The College Years" episode "Love And Death" (which had aired nearly four years earlier), right down to the "seize the day" mantra and, of course, Phipps' unexpected--and rather sad--death at his own surprise party.
And let's not forget his charming performance in the forgettable and misbegotten Eddie Murphy stinkbomb "Beverly Hills Cop III" as the jovial and benevolent Uncle Dave Thornton, the Disney-esque proprietor of the Southern California amusement park Wonder World.
Not a total surprise, considering both "USA High" and "Saved By The Bell: The College Years" were executive produced by nineties teen sitcom guru Peter Engel. In fact, this episode of "USA High" is a virtual remake of the "Saved By The Bell: The College Years" episode "Love And Death" (which had aired nearly four years earlier). Engel was notorious for constantly recycling episode plots from his previous teen sitcoms, mainly "Saved By The Bell" and "California Dreams," for the other programs in his vast oeuvre, such as "USA High" and the infamous "Saved By The Bell: The New Class."
Lazz's fondness, and admiration, for all things meat is a recurring theme throughout the first season of "USA High" (prior to James Madio's departure).

This episode reminded me of what happened world wide back in 2020, people over reacted back then.
RIP Mr. Phipps. He was really cool.
I enthusiastically concur. The late Alan Young was absolutely superb as Phipps.

The thing I like about this show, there’s a whole Lotta kissing going on with these females, but I can dig it❤❤❤
The way they portray Winnie is so racist and stereotypical
I couldn't agree with you more, Melanated!
Agreed. Very stereotypical. Only reason I tolerated this show is because her interracial relationship with the very handsome Christian!
