Would you consider doing a video about using lye and what safety precautions must be taken? I want to try making my own soap, but I’m so scared of working with lye. I think a video on that would be really interesting and useful to a lot of people.
Check out Royalty Soaps, she has a very thorough video playlist called the Royal Academy where she goes over everything a new maker would want to know including lye safety guidelines, cleaning up after, and more. Bramble Berry/Soap Queen is an endless resource. I'm sure Jerika could also go over it, but if you want to get started those are already available. Lye tends to be the scary thing for everyone - but once you start and respect the ingredient for what it is, it's really not that scary, not any more than cooking over a very hot stove that could splash you
Loved this! No longer free to use essential oils. I'm using your recipe and just started with the bath bomb press but mine don't float and spin like yours? Am I doing something wrong?
When molding, I dig into it and make little trenches. I fill the mold and don’t pack tightly. The idea is to create air pockets that help the bath bomb to float.
I’m super impressed with the number of subscribers Jerika has gotten on this channel. I’m super disappointed though with the number of views to number of likes ratio. Just an FYI that the respirator you are using is for liquid vapor and does not have any properties of dust purification, only vapors so you should be wearing these for liquids. The cartridges need to have an N95 or p100 attachment to them in order to have dust protection. They also have just p100 filters which would help a great deal. I work in safety in a pharmaceutical company's weigh and blending departments and wish you all to stay safe. Thanks for promoting safety in your videos. Kudos and keep up the great work!

I like your smaller dye load for a more all natural vibe. Have you thought about using clays to color your eo bombs? They won’t color the water or foam, but it would go along with the natural theme. You could swap out the kaolin for yellow Brazilian and French green. Just an idea... Thanks for all the inspiration!!!

Thank you for that calculator! A lot of calculators I find only allow for their product to be input. Also, about bath bombs, I don't have SLSa, so I've tried using SCI and cocamidopropyl betaine (with my liquids) and they work ok but I'm not super impressed like I am with yours. To get that bubbly foamy action, is SLSa the only way to go really? Also, I just got approved to sell my soaps at my local artisan fair! It's essentially just like the farmer's market, right next to it even, but our farmer's market only allows for grown products (foods and flowers) and you have to personally grow/produce 50% of what goes into your products (beeswax candles for example, the only non food items found at our market). So getting approved is super exciting! We start mid April - I've been studying up on being a fair vendor.
THAT IS SOOOO EXCITING! Getting into a farmer's market is what got my business off the ground! You will love it! Expect slow sales at first, but KEEP SHOWING UP. You will get there!

Hallo Jerika, I am a soap maker from tunisia. I always struggle with making bath bombs. Now I want to try your recipes, but we have no cream of tartar here in tunisia. Did you have any idea what to substitutes for?
Do you just wear the mask when you do slsa and citric or the whole time. Is it ok if my 4 yr is at home while I'm making them or does he need to stay in another room?
With the SLSa yeah I'd keep them in another room. If inhaled it can really burn and itch and it's very airborne despite how careful you are. I haven't had issues with bombs without it, my kids have helped me with simple ones.
I do it the whole time now. As I increase my exposure with my business growing, I need to protect myself. Like Cody and Brooke Hanson said, keeping your child in another room is best.
Good morning, Jerika and Cale. I'm just starting up my business ... I haven't even submitted my recipes to Health Canada yet. I read somewhere that the citric acid could not be more than 10% of the total recipe. This was a few years ago, have the rules changed? I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to have my recipes approved the first time to avoid delays. My soap recipes should be fine, but I'm worried about bath bombs. I'm also in Ontario. Thanks in advance!
A typical bath bomb recipe is two parts baking soda to one part citric, the majority of the bath bomb comprising of these two ingredients so citric would typically be much higher than 10%. I have submitted my bath bomb recipe to Health Canada providing the correct percentage and received a cosmetic number, so I’m not sure where you heard this.
Also, you’re free to begin selling your bathbombs as soon as you’ve submitted your recipes, no requirement to hear back from them. So any correction or adjustment they reply to you with, simply correct your labels or recipe to comply.
@@JerikaZimmerman Thanks very much for clearing that up for me. It takes a load off my mind. You two are great for sharing your knowledge with everyone. It's really helpful to have another Canadian that is willing to give out free information.

Do you have any tips fo when your work space is also a frequently used part of your living space (like a kitchen)? And if you did have a dedicated space for your business what would be some essentials you would want in it?
It kind of depends if you have kids or not. I do and work in my dining area and kitchen and I've had to get creative with my space (we are moving soon though, thank God!) You absolutely have to be good about cleaning up immediately and putting all equipment and ingredients away as soon as you're done. Any adults that live in house should also be very aware of what's going on, I've had my husband look at some containers and ask if he could drink or eat it... No 😂 so label everything and make an announcement to everyone so there's no bad oopsies. And again, start with good cleaning habits if it's in a living space with kids and pets that access it.
Keep everything clean! Constantly wipe down counters, keep ingredients completely separate from food. If I had a dedicated space, I’d want a long stainless steel table, a stove top, my bath bomb press, and lots of shelving for storage lol
In the recipe you have fragrance oil, then you hold up a huge bottle, saying it's lemongrass EO. For that bottle to be pure lemongrass EO it would have cost at least 1K. It seems you are confusing the terms of fragrance and essential oil. They are far apart constituents and ingredients wise.
