Hey I have a question do you think I can keep cherry shrimp in a 4 gallon tank I want a fish tank but my room isn't big enough so something small on my bedside table will have to do, thanks!
As someone who has had multiple colored shrimp breed in her tank, you are correct that the mixing of colors will eventually cause them to revert to "wild" colors. However, those "wild" colors are also varied, and eventually the colors will return to some of the offspring after some time. You'll eventually have a mix of bright colors and wild. Shrimp are awesome.
Plant: Caulerpa Taxifolia! They look like ferns, they grow like ferns if you bunch them up. It just looks like something straight out of a forest and it's a salt water plant out of all things. Love it. So do my clowns. have a great week everybody!
Lets gooooo a 5/5! I'll post an update with all the plants grown in and background plants as well. It's alot more full and planted now than when it started.
Thanks for lifting my spirits. Started the week off horrible. Got home last night to find my 10 gallon rimless leaking everywhere. Had to dismantle my favorite tank and move the fish in another tank 😢. Had a beautiful black water bog going
@@4OruK they’re fine they moved into the new tank without a problem but I now have a very overcrowded 20. Moved ember tetras and khuli loaches in with my black neons and Cory’s so they’re fine compatibility wise for a while
I had to rebuild my 10 gallon into a 15 gallon when the 10 started leaking from the top seal. But it turned out better because I used all the substrate from the 10 at the bottom of the 15 and dumped a large amount of sand on that and topped it with a single layer of gravel. I was able to save all the plants and replant them, and now my Fire Red Cherry Shrimp is going absolutely crazy. I love the footprint of the 15 far more than the 10 and it barely takes up anymore space. Sometimes disaster creates beauty.
The gorgeous pink flowers look like Crypt Pink Flamingo. At 8:12 time stamp. And my favorite tank plant is an aponagetin ulvacious. It has such light, bright green leaves, that are thin and grow to the top of water. Kinda like a sword plant. But these leaves are just light, and curly and they get really large. Mine overtook my 20 gallon long and I had to transplant it to a bigger tank. And that plant had a root system that was outta this world. Whew. It was as big as the plant. Yeah, I would plant this plant in 55 gallon and up. And definitely plant it in a back corner. But it is the prettiest plant I've ever seen.
My favorite plant is plain old guppy grass. It grows everywhere and i love it! And more importantly, it keeps my guppy fry alive in my stock tank pond.
Yo, as a cat owner. The foil is all over the bottom tank and the stand, because that cat has infact already messed with the fish many times. Foil is used to scare the cats when they touch it. But it dont work on all. I have a male cat who plays with the foil. Plus if you look close at the top tank, you can see the nubby handle for the glass lid, it is not lidless.
Personally an orchid and a carnivorous plant in the same enviorment. I feel like one of them will die. They just have completely different care requirements. Maybe I am wrong but either the orchid will get to much light or the fly trap will get not enough. I think you could find a happy medium for the water situtation but I feel lighting requirements are way to different to make them both happy.
My fave plant in the hobby is Anubias. The first time I made a planted tank, I researched what are easy plants to grow & it came up, so I got some as well as some java ferns & the anubias practically took over the tank; it grew so well! 😁
My favorite aquatic plant in my tank is my java fern. My anubias nana is a close second, but my java fern produces SO MANY baby plants. My favorite non aquatic plant in my tank is my pothos. Her roots are over a foot long and i love watching my betta swim through them.
For the shrimps, it really depends on which breed lines you follow. If they mix too much across different family lines, they kinda revert to wild colors again. Not even all blues or all reds are the same, but there are some cool charts out there for the color variants you can reference.
I love sylvinia! I've read that different light quantities and qualities can cause different leaf texture and growth patterns, so I'm looking forward to playing with that and seeing it for myself
still new to the aquarium hobby but my favorite is Brazilian Pennywort so far. Everything about the plant I just love. The round leaves and how well they grow. I LOVE BRAZILIAN PENNYWORTTTTTT
I think my favorite aquarium plant is water lettuce. Too easy to grow. About every week or two it has to be thinned out as it multiplies so fast! I love the feathery roots that hang down. 😊
4:43 MARYLAND REPRESENT! Hope my fellow statesman's arm gets better. Dont let the turtle tank get so dirty next time! Many little cleanings is better than one massive cleaning after it gets out of hand.
Ayyyeee earlier today. woop woop favorite plant would probably be anubias barteri. sure their slow growers and not that fancy but there is just something about them big leaves and growing on wood/rocks instead in the gravel that allows you to do so much more with them
I still don't have an aquarium, but I'm thinking Hornwort for all the small spaces it leaves for small critters to hide, some sort of duckweed for floaters, and then pearl weed for a carpeting plant.
Definitely good to see Millie and Repashi alive and well after the fire. You mentioned once that you have a bird channel? Could you provide the name of it? I love my fish, but I'm even more into birds.
the neo expert at my LFS claims that different colors will breed cull neos but then the next generation from the culls have a chance to get their colors back! also QOTW my current favorite plant is jungle val because of its background capabilities. it's a native plant here in FL too!
I've got a mix of coloured shrimp, I find that I get probably 70% clear natural coloured shrimp. Then 20% red shrimp, and 10% random colours. My fave was a orange shrimp that appeared ❤️
The size and shape of the claws of the shrimp eating the neon are consistent of ghost/grass/glass shrimp, not macrobrachium species whose 2nd chelipeds are noticeably longer. Ghost shrimp can easily opportunisticly attack a small severely sick fish which is what looks like is happening in that clip.
QOTW: Eleocharis acicularis, dwarf hairgrass. I like having a little lawn in my aquarium. Plus its cool that my celestial pearl danios attempt to spawn in it and then the shrimps come in and ruin all their hard work.
QOTW, I think my favorite plant is Anubias. I know they are slow growing but they are just amazing to me. I also like my crypts and the red they add to the green fields. Great video! I really look forward to Monday mornings with you.
9:45 thoes shrimp do get BIG, I have an indoor pond with some. I started with a dozen juvies and im not really sure but theres at least 4 or 5 that made it to maturity, and their arms are CRAZY long and their whiskers are too. But if you got livebearers it helps keep some balance to the numbers.
We've tried like three times to set up a large tank with all the needed equipment: heater, CO2, filter/pump of course... but inevitably, after a while, even when we take the time to let the tank cycle and only put fish in it after a month, the tank just... disintigrates into algae, plants dying, fish dying, etc. Yes, we test the water, yes, we do water changes/top ups when needed, yes, we do whatever it is we need to do to keep the water values good, but... after a while it's just no fun anymore. I get depressed looking at the tank, with plants just slowly withering away, fish disappearing (dying), and then we just... give up. We empty the tank - we kept a dwarf hamster in it for two years - and now it's empty, because in the Netherlands you're no longer allowed to buy/keep dwarf hamster for some idiotic reason. So we want to start up the tank again, but I'm dreading what'll happen. Even after watching all these videos and other videos about how to correctly decorate and cycle a tank, it's just... I don't know. Are we just not good enough? It's so frustrating!
I am going with bucephalandra and it's many variants. It has the advantage over anubias in that it does good in birghter lights and grows faster. They also are a great plant to use to make one off those bonsai trees.
I did the shrimp science experiment: all the colors... second and thrid generation you get clear/stripey/with a wash of red... then more stripey... then eventually WILD TYPE (no no it's NOT doo doo color, it's all silver and grey and black and brown). I also got some black and dark brown with a sand colored stripe down the back. Perfect camo: they look at first glance like a rando bit of plant stuff, then, oooooooo that's a stripe on a shrimp. You just add a colorful one once in awhile and see what happens.
Today I tried a new SSRI prescription for the first time, and it hit me so severely I was thinking I would have to call for help (iykyk how SSRI medications hit you when you first start taking them). Thanks for helping keep my mind off and for making edutaining content!
8:10 Crypt 'Pink Flamingo' if I'm not mistaken. Could be that new Alternanthera variegated form but the pots and planted tanks I've seen of that have a bit more green. Edit; holy guacamole, that paludarium!! Chris caught the Venus fly trap but missed the little moth orchid! For years I've been wondering why paludarium ppl don't include more orchids! Love it!
At 8:17 That tank is literally a 5/5 ...for me anyways...absolutely beautiful... I miss having my fish tanks... next time around I think I'll have more of a natural tank..no more silk artificial plants...I see my future with a 40 gal ..50 gal and a 75 gal planted aquarium... with just small fish..
I just spent over $70 on plants for my 29 gallon, I'm binge watching your videos to cope with the fact that it'll probably be over 6 months before they're grown in how I want them. At least the chili rasboras are happy, can't say the same for my wallet 😭 I got some Limnophila Sessiliflora which is great because it's easy to grow and that's really the only thing I could ever ask for. It's like Hornwort but less ugly. (In my opinion, no hate to people who have Hornwort.)
As someone who keeps wild betta I recommend betta Smaragdina or betta channoides I absolutely adore these 2 species the Smaragdina is similar to typical betta but has amazing iridescent emerald blue color with a hint of red and for channoides it’s a mouth breeder and over all very interesting behavior
9:12 I threw some wood to build up a wall, for my baisy blj rice fish, and asked if wife liked it (lol) She said could not see sheit as the tannins had leached XD
the double edge sword senario ..bro gets a archer fish has pokemon cards on the desk next to the tank..the issue wakes up to soaked cards from the archer..the lesson is a lid or give the fish more attention hahahaha
QOTW: Maybe I'm just poor or a noob in fishkeeping, but I LOVE MOSS. Any kind of moss and subswassertang. So pretty, low maintenance, and very versatile
I've grown to like hygrophilla corymbosa recently even though I've had it for a very short time, maybe because of how much character and depth it adds to my tank
Qotw answer: my favorite plant in the fish tank hobby would be my hornwort. Let me explain, my 4 male mollies eat EVERY plant but duck weed and hornwort. Its the only bushing plant i can keep in the tank.
AOTW: Dandelions. I can't stop them from growing in my yard, so I'm guessing I won't be able to stop them from growing in my aquariums. Besides, they have pretty yellow flowers. My fish tanks grow guppy grass and salvinia like guppies and bunnies. I can start with one leaf of salvinia and one inch of a single guppy grass plant, and by the end of the week there won't be any room in the tank left for fish. Can you imagine how many nice yellow flowers there will be in one week if I put dandelions in my fish tank? My neighbour is an absolute witch. When the kids are going past after school (not my kids. He already grew up and then died) she runs outside and starts screaming at them for any imagined infraction she can think of, including talking too loud or laughing. She has an immaculate lawn. It's my dream to grow thousands of dandelions each week in my fish tank, then once a week, pull all the dandelions out of the fish tank, then sneak over to her yard late some night and seed it with all the puffy little dandelion seeds, and plant all the plants. Since she digs out weeds by hand, that should make enough of a nightmare for her that she won't have time to rag at the kids about being under the age of 11. It will also be really pretty when her yard turns from green to yellow. So cheery! She won't have the will to be a witch anymore.
Let's welcome a new week with our fav fishy vice, FTR!! I'm counting on you Millie, I mean Repashy, I mean that other host guy, to make my week worth it by starting it in the best way. Edit: I really need it this week. I just busted a little 5.5 gallon long tank that was going to be the perfect forever home for my Chili Rasboras. Was going to carry it over to the bag of organic potting soil to start the lasagna layers of substrate and... dropped it on the driveway! Carpel tunnel and old age do not make for ease of tank carrying in a safe and non-breakable way. 😢 QotW; I think in general my fav plant would be Crypts just because there's soooo many sizes and colors in this one genera of plants. Tiny little grass green Crypt parva for carpets all the way up to huge pine green with a sort of rust colored edge Crypt spiralis or balansae, with colors galore throughout the spectrum! The one floater plant I've always wanted and can never find, Azolla just for the weird fractal wonder effect is pretty high on the list too, but more in a lust after way. Edit # way too many; very glad to see best girl Millie and Repashy are both safe and weren't in the danger zone of the fire.
ooooh favorite plant might be even harder than favorite fish! My green thumb is better underwater than above, but I've still only been able to really grow maybe 10 plants well in all these years. I'm currently really into brownie buce and anubias nana petite because I'm obsessed with those little trees I keep seeing online. My husband really likes hornwort, so I make sure to always have them somewhere.
I have one off those trees with bucephalandra (a slightly red variant), but because off pricing I got an artificial tree instead off one made out off spiderwood. In my opinion buce looks as good if not better on a tree than moss.
@@AVDB95 same! The buce trees are so pretty! I actually shelled out for a nice one from etsy, and then as it was soaking on my back porch, getting ready for it's new leaves...my dog saw the pretty spiderwood and thought it would be tasty :/
I avoid female Bettas because of a video I saw about how much trouble they are if not for breeding. Something about putting them in a little cup and massaging their eggs out with q-tips. I thought everyone says to only get males. My local shop always has such sweet little female ones, being all coy and koi.
Happy monday fishkeepers! Hope you enjoy the episode and enjoy the update from Milly and Repashy!

So cheery! She won't have the will to be a witch anymore.
unique choice!
Yessssss a new video
qotw: I LOVE vallisneria especially when it lets its leaves poke out of the water surface.
4:17 I don't see any Corries in these tanks :0
Dang I try to have. Corries in my tank set up over the last few decades
As a 6'10" guy, I would LOVE a display tank I could sit in 😂😁
Let's welcome a new week with our fav fishy vice, FTR!!
QotW; I think in general my fav plant would be Crypts just because there's soooo many sizes and colors in this one genera of plants.
Hi Chris!
ooooh favorite plant might be even harder than favorite fish!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO REPASHY FANCLUB IN THE HOUSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :)
I avoid female Bettas because of a video I saw about how much trouble they are if not for breeding. Something about putting them in a little cup and massaging their eggs out with q-tips. I thought everyone says to only get males. My local shop always has such sweet little female ones, being all coy and koi.
